For offending mighty Ra by not offering enough sacrifices, you have been turned into a scarab beetle and imprisoned in a pyramid. To return to a normal life as a human being, you have to escape the pyramid by solving the riddles within. This is done by removing all stones, marked with a symbol, in each level of the pyramid. Only two stones with the same symbol can be removed at once and they have to be on a straight horizontal or vertical line. Some stones can be moved to match the required conditions for their removal. To move a stone the player has to walk onto the stone and hold down the fire button on the joystick. Now, instead of just moving the scarab, the player moves the scarab with the stone underneath it. To remove a pair of stones, the scarab has to be on one stone. Pressing the fire button releases a crosshair which can now be moved to a matching stone. Pressing the fire button again with the cross hairs over the second stone will remove them both. After all stones have been removed, the scarab has to return to the start–stone which is marked with an Ankh–symbol. This is the basic concept of the game, which can be played in a logic–mode or in an arcade–mode.
Logic–Game: This is the more relaxing way to play Ra. There is no time limit and the player cannot walk over the edge of a stone and fall into the void below. 100 levels have to be completed and the player will receive a password after each level to re-enter the game at the point where he left it at a later time. Additional special stones can make the player’s life easier or harder.
Unmovable Stone: Look like a normal stones, but cannot be moved. One should always check how many unmovable stones are in a level. Failing to do so might result in the inability to remove all stones.
Ice: The scarab cannot stop or change direction on ice. Cannot be moved and has not to be removed to complete a level.
Teleporter: Once stepped upon, it transports the scarab to the next teleporter. Cannot be moved or removed.
Traps: Disappear after being stepped upon. Cannot be moved and all have to be removed in addition to the stones to complete a level.
Movers: Move into a certain direction on their own, until they hit something that blocks them.
Targets: All targets have to be removed by movers to complete a level (in addition to the stones and traps as mentioned above).
Arcade–Game: As the Logic–Game, but the player has to complete a level within a certain amount on time. In addition, if he makes a wrong move by stepping off a stone, he falls into the abyss below, thereby losing a life. Furthermore, coins will fly over the screen, which can be caught by the scarab. These coins can be used to buy extras after a level has been completed. Extras include the ability to fly for 30 seconds, marking unmovable stones for a short period of time, changing the symbols on a group of stones, the ability to remove any two stones with matching symbols, more time, warp to the next level, removal of all stones with identical symbols at once, restart of the current level without loosing a life, and an extra–life. The extras are activated via the function keys. The game can also be saved after completing an odd level (e.g.: 3, 5,…). Up to 10 different saved games can be stored on one disk. The arcade–game also has a high score table which is saved to disk. Levels in the arcade–mode are loaded at random and can sometimes be similar to levels found in the logic–game.
The game also provides a level editor for the creation of new levels that can be played by the same rules as the logic–game. Up to 30 levels can be saved to a disk.
The demo mode shows the usage of all the different stones found in the game.
There is a password protection at the start of the game, but no other copy–protection. This enables the player to play from a copy of the disk and not from the original. In addition, the creative gamer can store more than 30 self-made levels on multiple copies of the game.

The graphics used in the game are simple, but fulfill their purpose. The game uses digitalized photos of Egyptian relieves, mural paintings and art objects as a background, which look very nice.

The game music is just awesome, the music used during game play nice. The sound effects are not very spectacular.

The controls are simple and easy to learn. Nonetheless it is possible to walk to far or forget to press the fire button in the heat of an arcade–game.

| Ra can be very addictive. Fans of puzzles and fans of fast action can both be attracted to this game. Even after a longer break it is possible to return to it, replaying all the levels or continuing where one left off. |
