Ween: The Prophecy 1992, Coktel Vision

Coktel Vision always had problems with ideas. They had many great stories for games, but the final product was never as good as they thought it would be. The good thing about this company was the GOBLINS trilogy. They have made a fantastic game full of humour and nice graphic. The puzzles were sometimes stupid but well thought out.

I can't say the same thing about WEEN THE PROPHECY. The game was a failure. When I first time read about it I was very excited. I was happy and sad at the same time. I had a flashback about another adventure title - FASCINATION.

When the game finally shows up in the market I was ready to check it out myself.
Well, the first impression was great. Nice drawn graphic and a not so hard control system. The music wasn't too bad - but became very irritating after a while.
There are many different locations and this is the only good big thing in WEEN.
But after some time I was starting become more angry. Why?? The idea again maybe was good, but Coktel once again changed a good game into nightmare.

The puzzles were so irrational that I couldn't imagine the solutions. When an adventure game is so hard to finish then there's no pleasure in playing it. Even the nice system of changing Copperball into three things using ring, tiara or necklace was weak and couldn't save this title.

I don't know who designed the things to do in the game, but he was probably thinking like this: "When there is an easy way to find things there should be a hard way to use them or combine in natural way".

Well, I've been a hardcore fan of the Amiga for a long time, but I have only played this game two times and the second time was just before this review.
The game had good potential fell down into blackhole of oblivion after the final release.

Review Summary
GRAPHICS: 8 / 10
Nice drawn backgrounds and small items. Lazy animation but good for this type of game.

SOUND: 2 / 10
Very irritating. Some sound fx were even worse.

PLAYABILITY: 4 / 10
Unnatural things to do with some items. Not long enough considering things before put into the game.

OVERALL: 4 / 10
First impression was good and I was even very happy when I finished the game. But it was a road through hell for my braincells.
