It is year 2712. Twelve brave desperates, from various places of known universe, begin their special quest. They accepted a discrete job and are on their way to a planet Sahvoar, now called Graveyard, to complete it. Their task is simple: wipe off unwanted signs of the unsuccessful genetic experiments on the planet surface, find and pick up four units of nuclear generator, bring them to a command centre at planet's starport and use them to nuke the planet. For this task they are equipped with a huge ammount of weapons and tools. They let themself to hire for money, they are Hired Guns.
Hired Guns is the game by DMA design
As they landed on Graveyard, they divided themself to three teams. One stayed in the dropship, one spreaded to guard the close proximity of landing site and one is ready to begin the main task. You are controlling this third team. Choose members of your team and your adventure can begin.
Choose your team members from 9 humans and 3 droids
Hired guns is a game for one up to four players, all playing on one computer. The screen is divided to three (3 players game) or four (other variants) independent windows, one for each character, which is unique and unseen. In four players mode two are controlling the game with two mice, one with joystick and one via keyboard. Optimum and most comfortable is two player mode, where each player controls two game characters. At the beginning you will choose from 3 or 4 of 12 characters, they vary mainly in strenght and equipment. Main characteristic of the game could be described as "future or technical dungeon", controls are very similar to well known dungeon-style games. But you have rifles, machine-guns, pistols, lasers, grenades and another modern weapons instead of swords, bows and spells.
Your quest is to pass 19 large levels, full of deceptive monsters, solve dozens of labyrints, find four nuclear units, use plentys of lost keys and magnetic cards, and - of course - kill hundreds of enemies. Aside from weapons you can use special devices, called psionic amplifiers, that have various effects - they allow you to cure poisoning, teleport you, breathe under water, metamorph items to different ones and a lot of other useful things. The success of mission is often dependent on the right usage of these modules. Mazes are full of boxes, containing weapons, ammunition, psi-modules, food and many other items, that can be collected and used. Hired guns contain training missions and short action games too, where you can try how skilled you are in maintaining of team members and using weapons and other items.
If you start to play this game, you can't stop playing until you finish each level. The atmosphere is very dark, supported with depressive sound effect that make you creeps. Some of the monsters are scary and make you feel panic if they deicide to chase you (especially if you are running out of ammo). The main power of this game is exactly in its atmosphere. Levels are very well designed and you need to cooperate between participants of your team. It is highly recommended to have your Amiga upgraded with extra memory, because you will be gained with half meg of special sound effect, that make this game absolutely unique. Game is on 5 floppy discs and can be installed onto a harddisk without problems, but if you have two disk drives, loading from floppies is acceptable. This masterpiece is a gem and it is sad that it has no sequel.

Textures, monsters and all other things are beautifully drawn, and the graphics is above average, but I can't give it score 10, because only 32 colours are used, and many games have much better graphics.

Music is amazing and fits perfectly to the game. The same are the sound effects, that are one of the best in Amiga gaming.

Very catchy and atmospheric game, most entertaining in 2 players mode. A huge variety of weapons and different main characters is surprising. I still play it often.
