An interesting game from Delphine Software and released in this country by US Gold. Another World sees you play a chap called Lester who is in his lab conducting an experiment in matter transmission when the lab is struck by lightning, which overloads the experiment and sends Lester and his computer deep into the river of an alien world.
You start the game trying to get out of trouble and end up doing the same throughout the entire game! In Level 1 alone, you have to get away from poisonous slugs and then a killer dog and then ends up being stunned by the aliens of this world and end up in a cage with a criminal/traitor of the race.
Almost every screen you go in plunges you deep into trouble with excellent music and sound effects to hear while you deal with the aliens who are intent on destroying you..
In the second level, you steal a gun from a guard, but the power in it won't last long so you have to recharge it somewhere. The graphical effects are great for that..
After finishing some levels, you end up facing more villians, leaving you no chance to catch your breath, but you are given codes at the end of each level.
Throughout the game, you are accompanied by the alien who you shared a cage with but at times, the two of you are separated but are united at various points where he helps you by either holding the enemy back or creating a diversion or opening the entrance to level 3.
The game is mainly a 2D running about game but involves LOTS of puzzles and LOTS of thinking. One level near the end involves you being in a tank destroying lots of stuff while being watched by an audience of aliens then you and your friend eject and you end up in the alien versions of swimming pool complex, full of what appears to be naked alien females!
It is very easy to die in the game.. You can charge your gun to fire powerful bursts and can even be used to generate forcefields, which die down after a while or if shot by the powerful bursts.
I first played this on my A500 Plus and really liked it and when I downloaded WinUAE, I hunted and downloaded the game and I still enjoy it to this day. I also got a copy on the Sega Megadrive and loved it.. However, I could never complete it without using a code to get me nearer to the end.... But I found it addictive.
But, after the game finishes, what happens? Does Lester manage to find his way home or is he destined to be hunted by the aliens for the rest of his life?
There are brilliant movie sequences, very well animated with the right music and sound effects.
I recommend this game to anyone..

Brilliant 2D graphics and the movie sequences are excellent. Everything is nicely detailed and animated.

Great music and sound effects. This is one of those games where they don't dominate the entire game.

Very addictive. Lots of thinking to do to solve stuff and the chance to have good shootouts is appealing.

| A brilliant game from Delphine which lays down the coding for Flashback which was also a good game. |
