Very atmospheric game, with good graphics and sounds. It is so much better as Barbarian, but still suffers from poor controls and frame rate unfortunately.
7/10

Almost impossible to beat without any walkthrough, retarded combat system, the game is extremely slow and the controls are very sluggish.
Still a cool game though! I'm a sucker for fantasy games so despite all the flaws I'm still eager to play it. Awesome title track.

An average arcade-adventure game, graced by some wonderful graphics. I was totally fascinated at the time by the gorgeous landscape and meticulous sprite design. Targhan still looks good nowadays despite the blocky animation.

Sorry guys, but this game is a masterpiece...

Well, it looks nice enough in the screenshots, but playing it leaves a very different impression. The sprites are barely animated, and they move with a level of choppiness that you'd be hard-pressed to find on the CPC, let alone the Amiga. The controls are woefully unresponsive, and enemies often get several hits in during the time that Targhan takes to swing his sword. On top of that, everything's slower than a mammoth stuck in a tar pit.
Targhan is a mess - looking at the pretty screenshots on this page is more fun than actually playing the game.

Probably doesn't even deserve an 8 but its graphics and the atmosphere - sooo lovely "medieval-fantasy" - stretch my benevolence beyond the pure gameplay issues.

I always liked much this game...it has something, a eerie fashion that cover the whole game. I've never finished it, but now withe the walkthrough I'm going to play it another time!!! 8/10

Did anybody notice that there is a barbarian named Targhan that would join your party in another silmarils game , Ishar 2 ?

Nice graphics and atmospheric sound although this gameplay was linear and frustrating at times which is a shame as it could have been a far better game.

Silmarils were capable of producing graphically great games that for some reason didn't quite catch on. Targhan beeing one of them. There was nothing wrong to this game, a load of games beeing way worse. I just can't put my finger on it, the game is challenging and lasting with nice GFX and nice music..
