I hope whoever gave a high vote was joking. The game is too difficult, you die even without hitting certain enemies, the collisions are bad.
Faithful graphics are not enough to make a good game.

This one is better than the NINTENDO SWITCH remake. Real score: 7 on the Amiga.

This is a pretty nice platformer by Ocean with nice colourful graphics which are near to the arcade original. Somehow I remember this as a very hard game from my youth, but now that I play it again now that I am forty-something I really don't think it's that hard. It's less a game of skill and more a game of remembering. This will cause some cheap deaths on your early atempts, but once you know the tricks in a level you'll breeze through to the end. Still, before you are able to do that you should put in quite a lot of practice. I like games which test your skills a little more than the games in which you have to remember the attack patterns of enemies/levels and I found that the collision detection in Toki isn't always that accurate. Also I found the controls not always well chosen or responsive. Besides these negatives, Toki is still a nice game with some cool variety in level design and graphics. Also the 8-bit like sound effects are cool and there is some decent tunes to listen to. And when you put in the effort it's also fun to master!

Graphics: 8/10
Sound: 7/10
Playability: 7/10

Overall: 7/10

I think Toki, despite bright appearance, is a very dark game.

Monsters are generally scary and flat paper toy-like sprites only increase their ugliness. Music is rather aggressive and menacing. Bosses' names sound like taken straight from Conan stories or some inferior quality pulp novels.

I always thought that Toki is Shadow of the Beast, but in colour.

Pretty faithful conversion of a mediocre and unfairly difficult coin-op. Ocean France's undoubtable talent should have been used on a source better than this. It has many of flaws commonly found on Amiga platformers (framerate lower than the arcade's, up to jump..) but somehow manages to be a little more playable than the original. Still not one of my favourites (6/10).

A good game, who impressed me back in past... It's one of the first game I've tried on my first Amiga. (I had Amstrad CPC before...).

real note : 7/10 (nostalgia : 9/10)

Arcade Version is better so far.

From what I've read, a smaller screen was used due to the Amiga's CPU limitations so the game wouldn't lag. It's fun until you played through it, then it becomes uninteresting. There are no secrets, no bonus levels, you've seen it all. I wish someone would make an (inofficial) sequel.

Good game, but the small screen size spoils it. Like playing a game through a little window.

Another one of my favourite Amiga games ever! Excellent conversion that manages to sound even better than the arcade original. Very good colourful graphics, excellent sound and music, great animation and a solid playability made this a personal favourite of mine for many years. Kudos, Ocean France!

One of the best games on the Amiga and a really great conversion. One of those very few games that I consider better than the coin op (along with silkworm). Why... Because the main sprite looks better and the music is miles ahead. Frigging love this game!! PLay it!

Pretty good port, not too frustrating, graphics seem better then even on the Genesis version. As an aded bonus, after dying sometimes I would be respawned in an area I haven't gotten to yet, so that was certainly a plus

Only thing to citicise here is the promotional artwork, which looks godawfull, and doesn't even remotely aproach the quality or style of the in-game graphics in any way.

Good arcade conversion, looked nice and played well although I would get rather frustrated with the small play area which could cause some untimely deaths! It was still a lot of fun tho and playable enough.

Considering the date made, and the machine it's played through, this game is fine--good playability, good graphics. My only complaint: the sound effects Toki makes when firing his bullets. Otherwise, the music is fine, graphics and gameplay both are smooth. Toki is enjoyable.
7/10.

A good conversion that I played really a lot on my Amiga back then. But, after having completed the arcade, I discovered that few elements are missing (enemies, graphics). Details maybe, but why removing them? On the other hand, the music on Amiga is far superior than on the arcade (especially in the ice level).

I used to make the playarea bigger with Commodore monitor.. Then making the game fullscreen =) Very cool conversion by Ocean France. Its Parallax were simply cool to look at!! I just found music too much chip-sound.. I suppose it ocupped very few Kbytes,.. =)

I like that little starring gorilla tho i'm not a fan of the coin-op.
But french Ocean programmers, after Snow Bros or Beach Volley magnificence, realized another masterpiece conversion; if there is any limit, that is on the original too. A huge Bravo!

I remember this was not my kind of game, but i was amazed at the quality of it, it didn't felt like an arcade port, cause we knew almost all the ports were bad on amiga, this had great musc, fluid scrolling in parallax, colourful and in general all was very well done. Only minor thing is that the area of play is a bit small, but that doesn't count too much. Later i saw the original on the mame, but this version is great as well, could be im a nostalgic, but if i have to give it a try, i boot-up the amiga version and not the mame version...

What a wonderful time I spent playing this game - perfect arcade conversion - top notch platforming action. A little on the difficult side (particularly bosses!) but thoroughly enjoyable!

Toki was drawn by Philippe Dessoly aka Golgoth71, he is under contract with
Go NAGAI and he is the only one on earth to be lawfully authorised to draw
Goldrake/grendizer/Goldorak.

this game is a jewel, since every person involved are geniuses and/or great artists.

Incredible. Is a very accurate word to describe this game, the levels are truly amazing, with a very diverse range of boss characters.
Stage 6 on the skateboard has to be the games best bit. With from what I can remember, the stressful music adding to the pressure of staying alive till the end of the level.
My hat goes off to the game designers for not only the game, but also the final boss, with brilliant music surely this should be rated as one of amiga's best???

Pure Genius.

A decent platformer with nice main character and colourful graphics. I played this with trainer as a kid and I thought it got unbelievably difficult in the end. Music is good occasionally, second stage music is amazing (and seems not to appear in the arcade version).

Many years ago, this game got me hooked! I played it so much that in the end, my father had to lock my A500 away! The game sports rich grphx, sounds and music - not to mention all the odd and wonderfull monsters you can "spit" to kingdom come.
Highly reckomended platformer!

Toki was a little wonder and it kept you playing right to the end. I went back to it after completing it. Still looking now at the difference between the arcade graphics and the Amiga you sort of get drawn to the coin op. Toki's girlfriend has her boobs out in the Amiga version, naughty!
