Definitely play this two player and let the less experienced player control the guns.
Don't even try it on. 1 MB system. Without all the speech, you really lose out of a lot of the atmosphere.
Mindless carnage sure, but something you've never QUITE seen before or since.
If your version isn't trained, use a joystick with auto-fire to move and if you flick auto-fire on, odds are your guns won't overheat.

Walker is an exhibition hall of golden times of 16 bit Amiga. Technically perfect, lot of fun, and moreover, for two cooperative players (mouse & joy)! But fuckin' tough

Excellent graphics and sound. Controls take some getting used to, but they fit the game perfectly. Gets a bit repetitive but still good fun!

Easy to get into and very addictive.
However, once you've played it for quite a while it gets a little repetitive.

This is a gallery-type shooter with a similar concept to the arcade classic SDI- Strategic Defense Initiative (1987) by SEGA (*): you control your crosshairs independently from your "ship" - actually, a walker or what nowadays is commonly called mecha.
Unusually, the scrolling (multi-layered, I count three scrollfields) moves to the left, unlike in 99% of side scrolling shooters.
The walker can only move left/right (with keyboard or joystick), while the crosshair can move all over the screen and is controlled with mouse. You have unlimited ammo, but the gun can overheat so it's better to shoot in controlled bursts and use the lock-on feature where appropriate. Very accessible control scheme.
The graphics are very good, with many tiny sprites and hordes of enemies on screen, and excellent animation. The backgrounds convey a post-apocalyptic, moody atmosphere that fits the game. The sound is also superb.
The story of Walker is about time pirates and some sort of changewar I guess. You will walk and blast through a bombed out Berlin in the last moments of WWII, and through devastated future cityscapes. Wide variety of enemies.
Gameplay, graphics, sound are all top notch! Walker is one of the best shooters on the Amiga, do yourself a favour and play it!
(*) Not the Cinemaware title from the same year

The game is very good with very detailed graphics but did get boring quickly!!

One aspect has this as rather 'two dimensional', (which as a matter of fact, it is) but in another regard, this is worth playing if for nothing else, to experience using a joystick and mouse simultaneously. Very interesting and enjoyable.

Using the combo of joystick and mouse to control your walker was a lot of fun, and the gfx and beefy chain gun sfx were great! Its a title thats a little different from the norm shoot'em ups, and I have to say they managed to pull it off pretty good! Enjoyable destruction action!

Walker was too difficult for me back then, but the atmosphere in the first [zeppelins!] was awesome. Kinda relaxing game.

Nice idea, good animation, good gameplay. Really boring after level one.
Nice for a couple of times, but intrest dies off after that, which is a shame becouse it has a lot of potential to make it interesting.

Game is not boring but sooooo harddddd.

This one's a real adrenaline rush, especially with the boss fights. It's more of a thinking man's shooter: You have to prioritize your targets if you want to progress further. The only design fault is the lives: 4 is just too many for a game like this, so it takes far too much time to play just one game.

Only ever played the demo. I always wanted to buy it but never did for some reason. Kind of glad I saved the money since, from what I've heard including comments here, it starts good but then goes downhill because of repetition. That walker character sure did look good though. And it's pretty darn fun mowing down those little army dudes. Heck, I think I'll give this a go on the emu sometime. Seems like doing that repeatedly might be a blast, sort of like that old tank game where you're splatting those little dudes. {insert evil laughter}

Absolutly kicking arse shoot'em up. Maybe graphics is not a piece of art but animation is stunning as well as sound which is literally a music for ears. The latter is so "real" that you might get the feeling being in the action, sitting behind the wheel (steer?) of the Walker pressing button to shoot a deadly round of rapid fire. Difficulty level is a bit high but nothing comes for free. Excellent!

Brilliant! Simply brilliant with all it's detailed graphics, sound effects and music! I still play this frequently.

Excellent shooter with in depth action a great atmosphere. Very hard to play, unique commands.

Hmm.. I really wanted to like that game. Walking around with a walker like that and controlling him with the mouse was just cool. Yet it was also a very boring game.

I was a little bit disappointed when I played Walker the first time. Just like Jolly Roger said: this game is nice, but could have been done better with some extra weapons or other stuff, it's just made to simple.
Anyway, it gets 7/10

Only played the demo but absolutely loved it. Don't know why I never bought it - maybe I reckoned it was going to be too hard! Great graphics and fun with plenty of atmosphere.

I find this one of the best and original Amiga Game, I still play it and even my nephews, and it is still fun.

Cool idea, but execution somewhat flawed: crazy loading times, deadly difficulty (could never get past the boss of the last stage of the 2nd level - maybe the 4th stage in all) and poor graphics (too few colours because of dual playfield and backgrounds proportions completely wrong! - however, active objects animations were nice).
What a pity: could have been a big hit, a classic.

Looking good and fun for a while, but stupidly demanding, also the loading times were too much. And it wasn't even hd-installable + I broke my mouse on this game. 7

Was it just me or the loading times were ridiculous?!

Again nice GFX and sound, loved shooting the little guys up, what a nice touch or crushing them as you ploughed through the streets.

Fun game...Atleast for awhile. I hear there's a group of fanboys working on a remake. Saw the website and screenies. Looks good thus far.

I still remember me and my bro playing this one together! I controled the damned thing and he killed things and visa versa! Fun for a while but it didn't last long.. And I don't remember seeing level 3..!

By the way, as far I know, DMA boys had an idea of having platform levels (player controlled Walker's pilot) between the levels which are in the game now but dropped the idea. There was even screenshots of those levels on english Amiga mags. Too bad that they didn't made it to the final game.

This game is wicked!
yeah its repetitive and difficult but i love it anyway. Haha i love the intro too!

Too difficult for me and then my bro comes on and demolishes most levels! Just goes to show how personal taste differs. Looked really nice and I remember enjoying watching my bro obliterate everything in site! So thumbs up, even if I wasn't a big fan.

I couldn't defeat the 2nd stage boss..
i think that game is a little bit to hard

These kinds of games make me mad. Can be made a whole lot better but they simply dont. Ways of improving Walker:
1-Different weapons
2-not only left/right but you should walk into and out of screen (more freedom of movement)
3-maybe some kind of self controlled shield
4-some cool intro or no intro at all instead of drab/banal intro
5-should be easier
In this state its repetitive and shallow.

Graphically impressive and quite fun but it all becomes a bit samey after a while. Some variation in both gameplay and weaponry would have been nice.

Just awesome shoot'em'up but true, it gets too hard after first 2 levels.

There is a trick for making Walker a little easer: use a joystick or pad with autofire. That way you will be able to fire at a slow rate that doesn't overheat your guns. You can still press the button for rapid fire.

The first level was always cathartic fun, but then the programmers decided that making the rest of the game nigh impossible would be entertaining.

Good gameplay but really difficult -- I think I never saw level 3 and 4...

Walker the freakin' Texas ranger. Good thing this game had nothing to do with that piece of utter turd.
This one is actually pretty good...the father of Abuse maybe?

Walker is a shoot 'em up by Psychnosis which is a little bit different. You play a big robot which you have to control with both your mouse and with your joystick. This seems strange and it'll take a little time to get used to, but when you do it's okay. You can react a lot faster with the mouse. And that's one thing you'll have to do... React fast! There are so many enemies coming at you and that's also the main fault of the game. There are just to many and there's hardly a way to shield yourself from the firepower of the enemy. The graphics are okay and the soundFX are rather good, but the game stays the same and so it'll get boring after a while. Check it out if you want to play something a bit different, but don't expect to much.

The only gimmick this game had to offer was to stomp and shoot little people into bloody pulp. In theory that could be quite enthralling - who wouldn't want to have such powers - but Walker was just a bore as it had absolutely nothing else going for it. A missed opportunity if something!

This game is quite fun, looks nice and is a real challange, not a lot of variety though. Good game. 7/10

This had some of the most impressive effects I've seen on the Amiga, but overall, the game itself is rather a bore. I didn't like this joystick/mouse controls to it much.

Average game, simply because it was too hard. Only reached the second level, myself. The music and SFX were pretty cool in this game, as I remember.

Fantastic game. The robot looked inspired from robocop, although that isn't a bad thing. Little men attempt to climb on to your machine by swinging ropes.. All cool stuff!

Fun idea, I used to play it at the same time as playing Moonstone, must have been around -93-94. However it gets boring quickly.

Nice game, gets pretty hard. I guess I agree, not a lot of variety but it's worth having. Never tried it with two players. Might have been a bit easier.

Walker was a lot of fun with two players (one controlling the guns, the other the walker). But the lack of weapon upgrades or any type of diversity in the levels, other than graphical, quickly made it a snooze fest. Too bad to. Looks to be DNA Designs final hurrah on the Amiga.

Walker was the reason why I upgraded my 1MB RAM Amiga 600 to 2MB. Sound effects are the main attraction of this game. One day I discovered an original package of Walker in games shop. Cover illustration was so amazing that I had to buy it. But the gameplay... Why the hell is this game so hard?! Non completable neither without nor with cheating...
