+ The musics. Their quality, their length, the way they are written and evolve into more atmospheric passages.
+ The fact that there's sounds and music at the same time and that the music is modified by the sounds (to allow room for them an instrument disappear, the bass or the melody)
+ The general atmosphere, created by the excellent musics, the attention to the details of the levels and the nice graphics.
+ The level design. As opposed to Superfrog, Sonic, Zool or James Pond II. In Yo ! Joe !, the main protagonist is somewhere. A Castle, a Pyramid, Mines... These feel like places, not soulless levels. And as a consequence, the game conveys a feeling of exploration, reinforced by the long musics that accompany the player further.
+ Being able to switch between weapons.
+ Starting every level without weapon and thus having to look for them anxiously (for five seconds).
+ The fact that these two main weapons should have different properties (No cliffhanging with the pipe, no jumping attack with the nun-chucks)
+ Numerous different threats.
+ Humor that is fun and cute.
+ Graphics are nice too.
+ A game that is very easy to like and to come back to, not for the challenge as it's fairly easy, but simply because it's agreeable to play through.
- Many bosses are poorly designed gameplay wise.
- The metro level is dull. (but it's a nice element story wise as it introduces a break before the last level).

I like this game. At first it seems like an ordinary platformer but its got good playability with the different weapons you can use and the prince of Persia grabbing onto ledges element, and I liked Amiga Power's gushing review of it.
It's got an interesting 'feel' about it and i liked the catchy Europop music and smooth colourful graphics and good sfx.
In a couple of magazines they said it had infinite continues but in my version that was not the case. 3 continues and then back to the beginning of the game.
8/10

One of the best Platforms on AMIGA! Everything is calibrated to perfection, just don't get discouraged at the beginning of the game, where the first level seems huge and could stun. In reality, once you understand the direction and find the right weapon like the steel stick, everything is simple and slips away painlessly. The program gives extra and continuous lives so that it is not frustrating to continue in the game. The music then reaches very high peaks, so much so that the modules seem to be played from CDs. An AMIGA pride still to be tried today!

Pure excellence! One of the best platformers on the Amiga. And that music - outstanding! Too bad it was the only game by Scipio. Personally I like this game much more than Superfrog. One of my all time favorites. I'm upping the score from 8 to 9, it deserves it.

Excellent platform game and one of the best ever for the Amiga!
1p and co-op 2p, exploration, secret areas, 6+ different switchable weapons useful in different situations, bosses, mini-bosses, you can duck, jump, walk crouched, hang to edges, etc.
Technically amazing (unfortunately there is no AGA version with even more colors)!
9/10

Above average in almost all the aspects, but it's awesome in two player mode!
And what's more, music is incredible and there's very smart system of usage of weapons. For example, nunchaku can't be used while jump, steel rod can be, but you can't catch the floor and go through a low tunnel, chainsaw is very effective even in jump but you need gas....

Apparently the developers of Yo! Joe knew how to make an Amiga game that looked more or less like a console platformer but failed to implement a comparable gameplay. Controls are not good enough even in comparison to other up-to-jump games and that affects the gameplay in a bad way. It looks and sounds very nice and could have easily been a very good if conventional action game. Too bad (6/10).

One noteworthy aspect of Michael Bialas' work for Yo! Joe! Is that his compositions are unusually long. The music for the first level clocks in at 6:50 minutes and the music for the last level even plays for 8:06 minutes. The complete soundtrack is 44 minutes long. That's quite a lot of music for 1760 kilobytes of disk space.

One of the greatest - if not THE greatest - platform games on the Amiga. Superb in every aspect.

The third attempt on this game and game completed. This game is very easy and takes away addiction,I think that is the worst fault of the game. However there are good ideas in the game like hold hands on the platforms or various weapons. Some tiles and sprites are huge and varied.Btw it's very unusual to play two players at once on a platformer game,at least on the Amiga.

Hmmm...I d expected something like 4.x for this game but you people seem to love it. I dont get why. The heros look pretty stupid and the things they are capable of are very limited. Furthmore I did not really get the steering.

What an incredible game. The music rocks (as so many have said before), and the levels are huge - I spent about half an hour just exploring the first one!
Sure, Joe himself is a bit too '90s with his shades, jeans, and hoodie (not to mention his ultra-hip 'tude), and the graphics could be (much) better, but who cares when it plays and sounds so good? And the load times are almost nonexistent - it's like it's on a cartridge!

Its graphical style reminded me of Kid Chameleon on the Genesis/Megadrive

This is so good that I even wonder why it hasn't made to the Top 100 list yet.

Ahh wow, I seriously wish I'd discovered this game sooner! The attention to detail is simply stunning - excellent character animation and a variety of interesting (and relatively intelligent) enemies. You have some decent abilities, such as punching and kicking, crawling, and grabbing onto ledges. And along the game you can collect loads of different weapons too, like petrol bombs, ninja stars, daggers and chainsaws - and for the record, the chainsaw rocks!
The graphics are all really nice, and the music is done really well too. The game overall is chock full of personality, and there's even an optional 2 player mode, in which both play simultaneously within the same screen. A very well crafted game indeed!

Really great platform! When this game came out I was very young and I wasn't able to finish it, but I liked it much! Great graphic, great playbility and (expecially) great music. Really great game

I remember Amiga Power going bananas on this game and they were right, as they often were. A good platform game, fun graphics, nice music...and very playable. To me it still lacks the "it" factor to make it a real classic...I'll give this one an 8 and move on.

Great game! Perhaps not very challenging, but is a nice platform for some senseless killing with interesting weapons (to good music).

Awesome game! Incredible atmospheric music starting from the 1st level, really cool graphics and weapons that make killing an art
Miss those 2 player sessions with my gaming buddy back in the days...

It is quite hard to believe it but I have finished this game playing it for the first time. The game is far too easy. Authors should have made it more difficult by setting some number of valuables to be found in each level. Although the game is great in concept and artwork (music rocks!), it is much more just to run ahead without thinking and killing (avoiding) the obstacles. Also the after level stage is far too easy and the game is too generous in giving you extra lives. The game is good but for some advanced players is just a simple adventure for one play only...

in the best European tradition with (very few) japanish influences

A fantastic platformer that unfortunately refused to play past level 2 on my computer. This makes me sad.

Now I remember a funny features of the game. Join the Egyptian level and look in the sarcophagus: there are a sexy poster! Dirty mummies!

As you get infinite continues, and there are only six moderately-sized levels, you could feasibly complete this in one 8-hour session, but it was great fun while it lasted. One of the few platform games where every death is your own fault - there are no nasty surprises lurking behind innocent-looking walls. Hudson Soft had a nice touch with game design, and just about everything Blue Byte (via their Play Byte arcade label this time) turned to gold around this time.

Yeah! Man I really really love this game. I remember that I didn`t use any cheats or trainers for this game. Because it was so fun to play. The musics are totally brilliant. Especially the level one tune.
One of the best platformers of all times man. 10/10

This game is one of the firsts who I play when I was a child. I rember the wonderful music of Michael Bialas, really fantastic. At the end the programmers leave a message about a Yo!Joe! 2 game but this never created.

My first meet with molotov´s coctail. The game was full of weapons, had perfect playability, good graphics and music and superb two player mode. I like the logo of Hudson soft too.
