And I remember buying this when it first came out, spring 1996 or 97 or something like that for £20 (English money).
After years of development hell it suddenly appeared in the game shop out of nowhere, even though by this time the shops were winding down their Amiga stock.
It had six disks inside, both the A500 and A1200 versions together.
And I still have it today, and it's much sought after among collectors and worth quite a bit!
But as I've said - well done to the Bitmaps for releasing it, (unlike what happened to Putty Squad for example). 8/10

I disagree with most of you. This was a fine sequel and a good advancement of the Chaos Engine theme.
Pitting two players against each other as opposed to cooperating as in the first game was a clever and logical way to do the sequel - it's a game that demands time and practice to get used to the tasks required in the levels and even has bosses at the end of each world this time!
If they had simply done Chaos Engine 1.2 then you'd all be slagging it off for being more of the same!
And well done to the Bitmaps and Renegade for finally releasing it in 1996.
Think of all the games around that time that got cancelled.
I give the Chaos Engine 2 a well deserved 8/10

Totally agree with Mailman. Ok most of us were disappointed but forget all your prejudices to discover how wonderful CE2 can be. And don't forget that back in 1995, Amiga was near its end commercially and pressure from Warner Interactive was hard as the Bitmap Bros were at the same time developing Z for PC and Playstation, two platform clearly more lucrative than our poor Amiga. Genesis version of CE2 has been canceled and that's was real luck for us to see this game officially published in a so difficult environment.

Everybody who was expecting new levels to "The Chaos Engine" was disappointed but if you take a look at the sequel as a completely new and different game, you obtain something original and amazing. Excellent ambient and atmospheric music by Richard Joseph!

Useless sequel to one of the best Amiga game ever. Huge disappointement.

I was slightly disappointed with this, it was eagerly anticipated I think, but still a good game. I only played a demo of the original, but something about the atmosphere just grabbed me, and this was missing from the sequel, though it did have some interesting features like the big cat in the jungle levels (leopard?).
@ radioman: Yes, it was definitely released. 7/10

This didn't grab me like the original. I was happy when it was announced but disappointed in the result. I think I only played a demo though.
Are you sure this was actually released?

Pretty good action and fun but I still prefer the first episode.

Many people expected it to be just "CE" with new levels but "CE 2" is a different game. And it's a quite good one!

AGA version has bit more colourful graphics, some extra sound effects and animations. Otherwise pretty same as the ECS version. Great fun.

Again this version had more or less the same features as the ECS version but still worthy of playing
