MartinUK, Amiga is not a 'kit'. It's a computer system. Have some respect.

What do you mean 'this kind of hardware', when this game is obviously software?

Amiga was never a competitor of the consoles, it was the competitor of actual computers. Consoles complemented the Amiga - I got a Playstation to play 3D games, and Amiga to create music, graphics, animations, and play other kinds of games. With ShapeShifter and 68060, this was a very good setup.

PC was Amiga's enemy, as it always had things the poor Amiga couldn't dream of, although a lot of it, it could -technically- have done. ShapeShifter proved this (before 'official' Amiga Doom ports, I was already playing Doom, DOTT and Alone in the Dark on ShapeShifter).

Of course, maybe we were a bit silly - nowadays, I don't see competition, I just see
co-operation (I have Amiga, PCs, Sega Dreamcast, Super Famicom, DS, Wii, C64, Atari 800XL, Atari 2600jr., C16, VIC-20 and 50 systems emulated).

Rbn, you are wrong. This game didn't run 'flawlessly' even on a 68060 in ANY 1x1 mode. Well, depends on what you mean by 'flawlessly', of course. Maybe it's partially because the 2x2 and 2x1 and 1x2 modes (that you could toy around and tinker almost endlessly to suit your system - even as far as to render the visuals so unclear or small or perspective-wonkified, that the game became completely unplayable) seem so smooth and juicy, that whenever you put on 1x1 mode, it seems always jerky and slow by comparison.

To me, it was fun to have things 'flow' than 'jerk about', so I almost always played it with 1x2 or 2x1, especially as a multiplayer. A 040 would have choked even with higher MHz-rate, but with 25? You must be joking. Even with a modern, fast PC and WinUAE, the 1x1 mode doesn't seem as smooth and fluid as one could hope. It's fast, it's smooth, but when you switch to 2x2, it's just so much smoother and faster. I want THAT kind of smoothness! But with the highest setting, I never seem to -quite- get it.

As far as my 030-Amiga.. I don't even want to try.

This is indeed better than Super Mario Kart (remember the word 'Super', because it's part of the name, you ignorant philistines), but also less polished.

Amazing if you had the kit for it. Far too slow on an ordinary A1200 but with an accelerated system this was a Mario Kart beater - fast, visually awesome, proper enemy AI, great level designs and chaotic mutliplayer. If only the Amiga had lived long enough to build on this kind of hardware and beyond and really take on some of the PlayStation/Saturn games of the day.

The best Mario Kart clone available with great playability and so many downloadable and freely available tracks within the community. This is an all-time-favourite of me. One of the Killer-App-Games for the Amiga System till today. We used to play it with up to eight (!) players simultaneously on my too miggys in my crowded room at my parents back in the 90's. Absolutely astonishing. Everyone should know this game. But you have to install the update that came out to enhance the KI and controls of the game to get the near perfect playability - without it it will just suck. So get it, the update and as many tracks as you can get and have FUN, FUN, FUN till your daddy takes the T-Bird away ...

And BTW: don't believe the screenshots here on Lemon. This game runs flawlessly in 1x1 mode on 040/25 and above with up to four players and CD32 pads on one machine.

As far as I am concerned, XTreme Racing does not just measure up to the SNES Mario Kart, but even surpasses it in many aspects: Computer opponents don't cheat. There are more tracks. The graphics are better. Up to four players can race simultaneously. You can even design your own levels with the editor.

We're talking about a game that stands up to the very Snes Mario Kart! I'm not kidding, check it yourself. The best of the game is the gameplay and addiction.Artistically is very ugly but technically is wonderful.

Probably the best racing game on the amiga of this 3D type. Good colourful GFX and fun game play, this came out when all the games coming out were very average, so it was refreshing to see someone still putting a lot of effort into the Amiga

While not in the same league as Mario Kart, this is still one of the best multiplayer racing games on the Amiga. With loads of tracks, power-ups, and competitions to take part in, it'll keep you hooked for quite some time. Take into consideration the track editor to be found on the data disks and this game's lifespan is quite considerable.

Probably one of the last "professional" AGA games in the mid 90s for the A 1200. It played very well on an A1200 with 4MB extra RAM and a hard drive. Got this one on an English Amiga magazine in 1996 as the full version and was surprised how well it was designed. Hated all those crappy "Vulcan" games and the other shit that was on sale then, but this was a very good game.

Among the best racing games on Amiga. Fast, funny, technically ahead. Weapons and power-ups.

It doesn't get better than this. Awesome game with cool graphics, a lot of Tracks and silly music. Grab some of your mates, some beers and duke it out on your Amiga. That's what games are made for. Awesome.

This was one of the better Miggy games IMHO. Ok, so we may be a little biased having designed & written the thing but I still rate it as one of the best games we've worked on. Who on earth is Nigel Critten though? We've been wracking our brains and can't remember him! It was a long time ago...

I never got a chance to play it multiplayer, so I suspect I missed out on the real fun. It was still good in the short term, though you really needed an '030 or higher to play it properly. If you had the kit the graphics were top shelf for the time, easily wiping the floor with Mario Kart and friends. One of the few games from the Amiga's later days which isn't completely embarrassing. 7/10.

I wonder why the screenshots are in 2x2 pixel-resolution? It could run in 1x1. Nice game, had loads of fun with this one.

With the gameplay improvements from the data disk, XTreme Racing is one of the best, most polished racing games I know. Numerous tracks and cars, perfectly balanced difficulty, colorful graphics, smooth scrolling on faster systems, splitscreen, deathmatch mode, level editor, awesome title music...

There were innovative graphics (at least for the good ol' Amy) and a good gameplay here, but you really needed a decent enough Amiga to get the best out of this game. That was worth it, anyway, since this was probably the last ace driving game on the poor dying Amy.

Yeah I remember this game pretty well! Similar to Mario cart gameplay (mode7 graphics style) and without a doubt a game that rocked! The music and driving was all cool!

Great little kart racing game that played great if you had the hardware to get it going at a decent clip with a hi-res mode.
