An amazing conversion, and a pleasure to play throughout.

Heads-up by Lemon Amiga member lifeschool: Shift + P = Pause and Shift + Q = Quit. I never knew this until Pac-Mania was played in one of the monthly game competitions.

Ok guys, the Amiga conversion is really wonderful. I just love it! Seeing my CDTV playing an overscan game with a so smooth animation and scrolling, musics and SFX simultaneously (shamely not always the case on Amiga) to play a so universal game, that's so great!

But you can't tell that the Amiga version is better than the original coin-op game . Yes game area is much larger on Amiga, but arcade version is much more colorful (almost 256 colors) with nice color gradations. Musics have been dramatically simplified and one is missing on Amiga (music in Sand Box level is the same as in Block Town). Game is faster from the beginning without making the game more difficult.

So you can objectively say that this Amiga version is great and does justice to our beloved computer but nop, it is not better than the arcade version

Pac-mania is just fantastic. Pac-man is a masterpiece of simplicity, game design and playability. It has not lost any of its charm in more than 30 years. Pac-mania might be less original but with its updated (well.. To the late '80s) audio and video departments and some minor enhancements and variations in gameplay it surely stands as a minor classic. I'm afraid that at the time of its release this game was considered just dated. Nowadays it would be acclaimed as a tasty retro-flavoured indie game. I would not expect such a great conversion from Grandslam. Fancy a classic Golden Age of Videogames experience on the Amiga? Then get Pac-Mania (8/10).

Although I absolutely love this (very first game I ran on my A500 BTW, but that's irrelevant as it _IS_ objectively brilliant!), I never suspected how much so until I recently tried the arcade original: and I have to disagree with almost everybody's comments below!!!! This was NOT JUST a great conversion, this even SURPASSED the original coin-up game!!!!! Damn, the arcade Pacmania screen resolution looks smaller and ridicule compared to the Amiga overscan play area! Something almost never heard of (especially considering the time this was made). A fantastic job for a wonderful timeless classic.

And here we go again! Another nice arcade conversion! Why did I used to think that 98% of all arcade conversions sucked on the Amiga?
This is another corker of a conversion, very faithful to the original coin-op up to the colourful graphics and catchy sounds. The playability is virtually unaltered too. I remember this was great on the ZX Spectrum as well and I didn't got disappointed when I upgraded to the Amiga. A bit too easy and surely too short, it's still - all things accounted for - quite a little jewel.

This is what i call a decent Amiga conversion! Miles ahead of the ST version, that was actually worst than the 2nd best Spectrum version (has bigger playarea).

In the first level the main character is too slow and it makes this game a little unappealing at first sight. Later on it becomes more and more interesting. Still I don't know why, I'd rather prefer C64 version.

Very good arcade conversion for 1988 standards. Better than the majority of 1988-92 arcade games converted to the amiga. 9/10

It could easily be argued that with it's jump button and mazes which are bigger than the screen Pac-Mania dilutes of the purity of the Pac-Man concept. In fairness, though, this Amiga version is still fast, colourful and fun to play, with any faults tending to be the fault of the original arcade version rather than the conversion itself.

Like Stardust, at the time it was difficult to contemplate paying full price for a game when there were perfectly decent variants available for free in PD libraries around the world. But - also like Stardust - there was just enough enjoyment to be gotten out of it to keep you from feeling like you'd wasted your cash.

7/10

Pac-Mania has always been in my top 5 favorite games on the Amiga. To be such an early game, it shows what the Amiga computer is capable of.

Your everyday Pacman game in a whole new dimension!

I love this one. Some of the levels are huge, and it's awesome that Pacman can jump. The ghosts all have their own personalities too - the purple ones are fast (they sometimes go faster than you on some levels), the green ones can jump, oh and there are some sweet power-ups too. The green power pellet, for example, makes you go faster.

Very advanced sound and graphics for it's time. I'm in awe that this game is as old as I am!

Isometric Pacman where you can jump. Great presentation and gameplay - being Pacman it's simple but it's very addictive indeed. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best.

Quite ahead of it's time this (graphically). Looks as-if this is what would happen if Lego and Pac-Man crossed lol.

Pac-Mania is one of my favourite pacmans and I loved the Amiga version. Once again it is very simple to learn, but it is extremely addictive. I remember starting most of the time at Sandbox land and I still do I agree that this is NOT an arcade-perfect conversion though. The graphics are different and the music in Sandbox Land was very different in the arcade version. But the fun is still here and that's what counts

C'mon, I read comments that said this was a very good conversion, and in some review this is described as an almost arcade perfect conversion... Now I played the original until the death, and I'm still addicted to it in the Mame, I never got the Amiga version before, but tried it on the emulator, well, it is a totally different gameplay, the AI of the little ghosts is different, and the bonuses timing is different too...
Ok, give it a 5.

Pac-Mania is so much better than playing all of those other Pacman games. This Pacman version on the Amiga has such good graphics, comparing to the C64, pretty similar version to the one on Playstation as well. But still I wouldn't care less, Pac-Mania is the game that I would love to play the most out of those other Pacman games. Great stuff from Namco software. 10/10.

Probably one of the best conversions I've played. Speed is a bit slow compared to some others (though I do realize it's the difference between PAL and NTSC, as I'm in the US), but most of the effects are used well, the colours are pretty good too. My only qualms with this conversion are the lack of music in Sandbox Land (it reuses the Block Town song) or for many of the intro scenes, no two-player option, not much variety in ghost colours (what about Pinky, Inky, Clyde, and Spunky?), and the cutscenes have been shortened a bit too much.

Otherwise all-in-all it's still a GREAT conversion of the arcade game. Still has all the challenge from the arcade game, and then some.

I remember someone said; "Video games have no influence on children. If that would be the case they would all be running around in dark rooms, listening to electronic music while eating yellow pills.". Guess he wasn't too far off afterall ;-)

Pac Man in 3D, brill idea and it was pulled off well. Catching those ghosts was never the same again after this was released and our yellow chompy friend had learned to jump too! A simplistic game took to a slightly advanced level and still lost none of the fun!

Yes it's a faithful conversion and Graphically stunning - However at the end of the day, it's Pacman in 3D, and I don't think it works very well.
I got bored of this after a couple of games - I'd advise anyone to only play this occasionally, and that might make it a bit more playable.

Everything you could want added to a Pacman game is here, and Teque have done the job extremely well. If you think there's even half a chance that you'll enjoy this, sell your granny immediately - it really is that good.

My first Amiga game, and an excellent conversion of a great coin-operated machine. Everything that made Pac-Man great is here, with the added value of the third dimension and the welcomed addition of a more varied level design. A classic.

This is fantastic stuff. The original arcade game makes a couple of great improvements to the basic Pacman gameplay (jumping, distinctly different ghosts, four different level layouts and a more gradual difficulty curve) and the conversion is spot-on. It's still not the most varied Amiga game, but it's a must for anyone who enjoys Pacman games - it may well be the best ever, on any system.
