For me I have to give this game a 10/10. I first encountered The Bard's Tale on the C64. It was the first game I ever played on a computer, and it had me hooked and I managed to beg my parents into buying a C64 system. Years later I upgraded to the Amiga 500+ and got The Bard's Tale to play on that system as well. So many great memories and fun times were had throughout my life because I encountered The Bard's Tale. I fell in love with fantasy, not just computer games but books and movies. The Bard's Tale games inspired me to getting my own stories published.

Bard's Tale was, at that time, an immensely popular RPG series. I always found it mediocre at best.

The graphics are an improvement over other early RPGs like the Wizardry titles in that they are in color, there is even a nice scrolling effect inside town and the monster portraits are partially animated, but still, this game was simply too basic and the story not particulary motivating or exciting. The postage-stamp sized worldview window didn't help, either. The mouse control scheme feels tacked-on.

Especially compared to Amiga titles like Pool of Radiance or Bane of the Cosmic Forge, which are roughly from the same time, this one is barely worth revisiting.

Gee ! I spent countless hours on this one. The Bard's music enchanted me Not sure it could stand a chance if compared to other more sophisticated RPG, but a true classic. Mighty turn-based fights with the A-Team in the streets of Skara-Brae !

The RPG that started it all(I do have to mention the Ultima series too). There was not much going on with the graphics and the (lack) of sound but it was a hardcore RPG.

If you ever try to complete this game, get ready to spend any insane amount of hours mapping the dungeons of the game, shows how spoiled we are with today's RPG games(all of them having automapping )
