Platform games are ten-a-penny on the Amiga, but generally they're just another jump and run game. Soccer Kid is unique, and it makes it one of the best platformers on the Amiga. The use of the football as both a weapon and a tool to navigate the levels is unique and gives you a real feeling of skill and power the whole time you are playing. The graphics are lovely and the music is top notch (I used to have the main theme as my phone ringtone!). You can even customise your character's kit! I can't recommend this enough.

Being jump'n run games all over the place during the early 90's, Krisalis succeded in making an original, innovative, fun and well made in every aspect platformer. It plays like nothing else except those games that are basically a clone of it (a couple of mediocre console titles). This is clearly a game made with the potential of the different models of the Amiga in mind. OCS/ECS version's palette might be not the best (far from ugly, anyways) while the AGA version looks fairly better and the CD32 version has even better controls. Classic Amiga game (9/10).

A lot of things have been already said
Some advices to really enjoy the game : Don't forget the balls are unlimited. You lost or "pop" one ? Just press fire during 2 seconds and a new one appear. You will only get less bonus points at the end of a couple of levels if you pop more soccer balls than the number indicated at the beginnning. So don't be afraid and let's go ! Try to beat the birds with soccer ball from a distant point rather than going to direct confrontation. Finally, don't forget to collect all the soccer cards to enter bonus level and try to get a piece of world cup in each country if you want to confront the final boss and see the real ending.
This version is really impressive for an ECS Amiga. But if you can, just play the AGA or CD32 version to enjoy really colorful graphics

I really enjoyed this game.

I only had the "preview" version of this, and even that was an entertaining game for me!

The Amiga version is the most complete of all the available versions (you can even customise your clothing) and if it had a "button 2 to jump" option as well, it would be the best version of them all, even if it sports slightly less colours on the screen than some of the later console versions.
But even with the "up for jump" mechanism, playability is slick and responsive. Graphically and sonically the game is more-than-decent. The action is fluid and technically well tuned.
The bosses are all great to look at and the game is engaging, with a nice learning curve. There are, however, some errors in level design, other minor quips (like the occasional leap of faith) and some repetitiveness as you progress through.
But, despite everything that may be less than perfect, all the other attributes place Soccer Kid well above your average platform flick (of which we saw oh-so-many). If you like jump'n'run romps with a twist, chances are you'll like Soccer Kid. I definitely recommend it.

Wonderful idea, but a bit unplayable. Sometimes it's easy to take hit by birds while jumping, which are fast as a rocket.

The game has 30 long levels and ALL are visually different!,you will not find another game like this.Besides the music also changes at each level.Good idea to customize the uniform with the colors you want. It's one of those few games that reach a much higher quality than usual, like The Chaos Engine or Lionheart. However its greatest virtue is its biggest flaw, the concept so original and fun becomes monotonous and repetitive as it progresses,so it doesn't achieve perfection 9/10.

Tricky game, good idea, playable. Love it.

A really charming and imaginative platformer. Having a football as your main weapon is a brilliant touch and makes Soccer Kid a lot of fun. It's a big game too, and it's certainly not easy to progress. Probably the only platform game ever where you have to put bits of the World Cup back together in time for the final, and where you can also collect football cards along the way. Thoroughly recommended.

I think I only ever played the demo (had to pick and choose back then, didn't have much money to spend), but it was excellent and I must have played it through again and again for months. Very original and full of character.

This game is so much fun. Very original platformer with great level designs. Very nice cartoony graphics, and highly addictive. Lots of levels to explore and whatnot, and thankfully this game has a save game feature! I would go back to this one again and again back in the day. This is a nice one!

What can you say that hasn't already been said? Top notch platformer with a huge hook kicking that ball around. What a great idea! I still have my copy but I wish I'd gotten the CD32 version instead of this floppy one. Still, I'll load up the emulator version. Up there with Zool as a platformer that defines the Amiga for me.

This is a truly great game....excellent gameplay, a completely unique idea, challenging but not too difficult to get into, good variety. One of the most playable thingies around! Go for the cup!

This could have gone sooo wrong. I mean soccer and platformer? Wtf! But Krisalis really managed to squeeze both things into one awesome final product. Great graphics, a superb soundtrack my Matt Furniss and the great gameplay make Soccer Kid one of the better platformers on the Amiga.

To bad the developers don`t produce games like this today-it`s all about graphics today but we all know this story.
I`m trying to imagine the idea programers had at the time - a lot of people like football, platformers are very popular on Amiga - then wouldn`t we pack all together and get an excellent product. Yes, they succeeded-this game is one of my favourites - although I never really completed it...
9/10

To have something with you all the time, like a football as your weapon was different, although it proved to work in this, nice GFX and decent sound making this a good game

Like Arabian nights, this got hold of me from the start even if I was a little put off by the control method but this turned out to be a stand out point of the game. It was just great fun knocking a football about the screen and bouncing it off enemies. I played this to the end and it was fun all the way.

Some cool ideas in this, but perhaps the difficulty was a notch or two too high.

The dififculty level's actually about right, but it takes a bit of practice to get used to the control system, so it's not for people who get impatient and bored easily. Everyone else should find one of the great platform games of the era.

I never played this game until today. I heard a lot about this and I was curious to see the game myself. The first thing you'll notice about the game is the superb graphics. A lot of Krisalisgame tend to have this feature. Very nice! The game itself is a treat! There are a lot of platformers in Amiga-land, so the really original ones stand out. This is such an original one! The idea of a character with a football as a weapon is great. You have to spend some time to learn to use it properly and when you do, the game still is pretty hard... But fun! This is a quality-product and a hell of a lot fun! A must-have for the platformer-addict, and for everyone else for that matter!
Graphics: 9/10
Sound: 7/10
Playability: 8/10
Overall: 8/10

Outstandingly innovative gameplay! Nice graphics and OK music. Won't boot with fast mem on a tuned CD32, so you have to remove that if you want to watch the funny intro.
Quiet tough difficulty level!

At a time full of generic console-cloning platformers, Soccer Kid was a great game, with the kind of originality, character and surprise that games designed for the Amiga tended to have much more than play-it-safe releases on the consoles. Not easy to get the hang of at first, but extremely rewarding and long-lasting. Deserved all the praise and hype it got.

Best soccer game ever!.. Oh yeah its a platformer, but you would love this if you were a soccer fan or not. Smooth, enjoyable, great graphics, plenty of different moves, what more could you ask? ... 9/10
