This game sums up everything that was wrong about the Amiga scene in 1996. People like me were hanging on, not wanting to move to PCs, with the delusional hope that the world could be salvaged. The CD32 will save us! The PPC will save us! An 060 upgrade will save us! An FPU upgrade will save us!
We hoped that a good game would be released, that a developer would support our dying platform, but the writing was on the wall. The party was over, there was just stragglers like us hanging on.
All the good game developers had wisely moved on to profitable areas, and the few that were left gave us dreck like this.
Those that were about at the time will remember how obnoxious clickBOOM were. Everything about them was grim. Their one game LOOKED amazing, but it was basically Rise of the Robots all over again: Nice graphics, shame about the gameplay.
And that's skipping over the cheap attempt at notoriety of having a topless character. It's an embarrassing game to play. It's embarrassing that this game exists at all. It's that bad.
But how the gaming press welcomed this steaming pile of garbage is just as sad. Once respectable magazines like Amiga Format gave Capital Punishment 90%(!),
These were dark times. ANY game that looked half decent got slavish reviews, because everyone still left in the Amiga scene all tried to convince each other that it was the right thing to say. A miserable shared delusion.
1996 is best forgotten when reminiscing about the Amiga. Miserable times

This game is pretty much a child of the condition of the Amiga market in its time: we were left with technically proficient coders, but all the good designers had moved to other platforms by then. And it shows: Capital Punishment is a reasonably pretty game, if with some questionable artistic choices, but it lacks any coherent or sensible game design, and in too many aspects to mention.
In retrospect it was nearly inevitable, given that already in their first game clickBOOM were showing the dodgy business ethics they would later become famous for. There is a lengthy horror story online by a disgruntled former developer [www] whose allegations go as far as to the usage of pirated development tools and sweatshop-like treatment of employees. Given the "no developer crediting" agreements behind the likes of Quake or Napalm I wouldn't be surprised if most claims were true. Had I known earlier I'd probably have boycotted Capital Punishment in the first place - actually, I only own it as a T-Zer0 bonus.

This game is bad. I've heard so much about it, and I wasn't able to play for years, and after all this time I finally had a chance.
It's slighty better than Rise of the robots, and we all know how Rise sucks eh?

Oh the arrogance of these A Holes. That’s what annoys me the most. They pat themselves on the back and bang on about how great capital punishment is. How it’s the best beatem up on the amiga (in all departments) and at the same time have this smug, condescending attitude towards the player when it comes to installing this beast. Read it, you'll see what I mean.
Anyway... The game itself...
Cons:
1: Nearly totally unplayable. Small selection of characters, limited
Backgrounds, not very well drawn (no smart GFX tricks hides that I’m afraid).
2: Moves, if there are any, are badly laid out and frankly bizarre.
3: Incredibly, jaw droopingly hard, unfair and unbalanced.
Pros:
1: Looks good... In a demo kinda way (that dead team 17 feel). Reminded me of full contact for some reason.
2: Nice sound effects and shadow effects
3: Quick loading times once installed
4: Girl with her tits out
5/10 (all marks for GFX/SFX)

I never played it, but I would it only because of the female Character....I call her "Mrs Nipple".
Dear PXL Computers, can I have some Wallpapers of Mrs Nipple, please!

Enjoy gfx and sound. Forget about playability.
The kind of game where your enemy kills you in a few seconds with 3 blows when you're stunned (after 1st blow) in the corner and can't even move. A match can last 3 secs.
No strategy, no technique, very bad collisions, it's not "hard" but totally unplayable. Big difference. WORST beat'em up ever.

Amazing graphics and sounds, but the fighters were too.. "stiff".. Gameplay is hard and unbalanced. But overall it's a competent fighting game.

Great visual appearance, great design, but that's all.

I didn't like it too much. Cool introtune and amazing graphics. Yet it was way too hard.

Amazing graphics and animations! The commands are responsive tho the game is pretty hard. Still boring like most of the Amiga's beat'em up...

Limited gameplay, but better than Body Blows, the graphics were top notch, and I'm not just referring to the impressive 'sprites'. I guess Dead Or Alive players would crave for graphical effects such as are in this game...

This was very much like a Body Blows rip off, although it did have nice GFX especially the woman with her breasts and ass out

Capital Punishment was marketed as a landmark release. Did it live up to its modest hype?
The visuals are very good considering the Amiga's limitations, but they are still a step behind what was available on competing systems in 1996. There are only four fighters to select from at the beginning of the game, and those few only feature a handful of moves. Enemies endlessly spam you with attacks or instantly kill you by ramming you into a spiked wall. Often you don't even get a chance to react. Fights can be over within seconds.
So, while the screenshots from this game might have looked great printed in magazines, the gameplay didn't live up to the promises of the marketing. It is too infuriatingly unfair to be worthwhile entertainment.
This is another game I feel I completely wasted my money on. I should have invested in a Playstation or a PC instead of more games for a dying system, but I got suckered in one more time.
