From the ads in computer mags back then, I always thought this is a trading/strategy game. Until I watched a longplay video and noticed this is a really poor and repetitive shoot'em up.

This was always a very difficult game but I have a secret solution for the original floppy disk version of this and without cheating! , here goes;
Go to Aquoss then Tundrars then Follas. The first bit to Follas is a fuel convoy-pick up ALL the fuel here. From Follas go to Volcurn.
The first bit to Volcurn is a space station where you pick up a much needed energy collecting laser. From Volcurn go straight to Bacillius. The first bit to Bacillius is another space station. Shoot the required parts of the station and then crash the ship in to the middle part whereby you'll collect all the fuel blobs hidden there - then pull away quick.
Use the energy collecting laser on the next shooting bit to restore energy.
You should have enough fuel now to go straight from Bacillius to Morb, missing out TWO planets! You'll need a plasma cannon or similar for the trip to Morb. Also use as little fuel as possible going from planet to planet. You still need very good arcade skills, but try it, i've done it!

Well, not exactly "awesome" but still, I liked the game a lot. Different stages had different gameplay which was a nice touch. Add to that nice graphics and cool sound and, well, you got a game that is a lot of fun - but, in my opinion, too difficult. I usually play with a little bit of cheating and enjoy the game a lot. Try it!

I confess to never having played this game so I won't rate it, though reading through the comments, I'm convinced Psygnosis was downright sadist in how hard they made most of their games.

I really liked those flight passages between regular levels where you have to fight / avoid that enormous space monster, which is imho 3D equivalent of Katterkiller from the C64s game Alleykat. I simply like this game, although is very difficult.

Looks and sounds marvellous(fantastic rock music) but way too difficult and unfriendly to the gamesplayer. Stll not bad though...

Blew me away in when I first played it in '91. Good strategy and gameplay and impressive graphics. The bad: it was a bit hard and the load times were MORTIFYING.

On the trading screen choosing 'Return to ship' doesn't work, even if I accept a new contract. What am I doing wrong?

I hated this game and the america-style rock tune

The mix shoot'em up / action / "trading" and mixed view angles was very cool. Graphics are not bad in certain parts (shoot) and awful in other (action). Not a bad game, it worth a look.

Another Psygnosis game remembered just because of its intro...

Nice mix of game style, all of them rendered with the features that made Reflections/Psygnosis games legendary throughout the years: magnificent intro, inspiring graphics, stunning music and FX. Also the gameplay is good enough to put this game among the all time Amiga hall of fame.

Asteroids crossed with Elite, some added Gauntlet and a pinch of Space Harrier. Great graphics and sound, and OK gameplay - the "3d" planetary boss shootouts were great! A lot more game than, say, Shadow of the Beast (from the same people, note the same irritating "Game Over"-screen!) Still, the hard difficulty level was not balanced enough to make the game truly enjoyable (I always got stuck with too little fuel to proceed to new planets).

Pretty nice game AWESOME, going into space destroying Asteroids and those awful Aliens. Nice game, I wonder why they call this game AWESOME, oh well doesn't matter, I not sure why I ask that question? Maybe It's really AWESOME I suppose.

Another classic example of Psygnosis strengths and weaknesses. Great looking intro, interesting gameplay ideas, beautiful in game graphics, and then the whole thing is torn down by a difficulty level that will make even the most prodiguous joystick jockey want to bury himself under a mountain of blankets and hope the boogey man doesn't get him. Did anyone ever manage to get past the Gauntlet levels without cheats?

Got this with my second-hand Amiga, it had the biggest box which made it exciting. Loads of different styles combine in this one, with a space-trading element essentially linking a number of shoot 'em up sections - Asteroids, Gauntlet and Space Harrier are all apparent. Graphics and sound are excellent, especially the 'game over' music, and the gameplay's above average. A nice one to try out.
