One of five games that in the late 80s when no one heard of Wolfenstein3D and Doom brought 3D environment (called Freescape) into a game. This is one is an amazing adventure - one of the last in the series. A bit slow and empty but it has its power to attract the player. Nowadays it is not going to keep any player in front of the screen longer than 5 minutes but back in the days it kept them for hours.

I remember getting stuck in this one for ages. How do you get on to the chapel roof to collect another vital piece ?? I was trying all sorts of things with no success and it was stopping me from completing the game.
Then I found the answer at last. Stand on the open drawbridge and fire at the switch and you're catapulted onto the chapel with a message saying 'brilliant'!!!
I went crazy with euphoria when this worked. Another Eureka moment!!!

Castle Master was definitely an interesting title at its release. After a gorgeous title screen and a great piece of music by Matt Furniss, you're off to explore the looming castle. Nowadays, the 3D environment feels a bit empty. Your mind has to fill in a lot of blanks. Give this one a chance though!

Incentive made several 3D action/adventure games based on this engine. Although this game is build around a filled-polygon 3D engine, the gameplay feels much more like an old-school Sierra adventure, than a "modern" 3D adventure such as Infestiation or Damocles. Castle Master takes place in a generic fantasy/medieval setting, which is not very exciting at first, but give this game a few hours to draw you in and then you really want to finish it!

Definately a step towards the 3d gaming we are presented with today! I liked this a lot but seemed to find it waned a little for me. Great atmosphere though.

Nice, intriguing game back then. Beautiful title music as well! A game I definitely remember 20 years later.

Very absorbing game although a lot of other games after this had better 3D graphics...

Exploring the castle was a stunning experience, I remember.

I'm seriously impressed that they managed to squeeze this game out of their 3D Construction Kit. When I tried to use that thing it choked trying to handle my parents' house and garden. Incentive's titular castle on the other hand is reasonably big and even though I'd describe this free roaming 3D adventure ad ponderous it was still fast enough to be reasonably immersive..

Great fun exploring, definately ahead of its time.

This was very intriguing and offered the chance to freely wander some cool 3D environments. And it was playable and interesting, too. Damn nice game, just like every other Incentive production.

Amazing title song. Try it in your headphones!

Wow... This takes me back. I never actually bothered "playing" this much (aka, the actual puzzles didn't seem that interesting at the time), but the fact that you were walking around a 3D enviornment just blew my mind. This and the other Freescape games were truly visionary and ahead of their time.
