Can this really be called an RPG or adventure? It felt more like a sword-and-sorcery Laser Squad, not that it would be such a terrible idea...

I like intro-music very much. Graphics are also good. Little boring alone, but fun with friends.

The modern day equivalent would be a board game conversion of 'Descent: Journies in the Dark' (2005, Fantasy Flight Games) for PS2, I guess. This is a no-nonsense, straight conversion of the - at the time - very successful boad game Hero Quest to the Amiga. Yes, the one with the dungeon furniture. Graphics are good and sound is so-so. What I don't understand is why on earth they did this?! Playing the actual board game Hero Quest with a couple of friends is so much more fun than several people staring at the tiny Amiga RGB screen and playing essentially the same game in isometric perspective, when they could instead play with an actual, physical game! The argument is probably that noone needs to take on the role of the game master, or that you can also play alone, but none of this seems very convincing. Only worth looking into if, for some strange reason, you want to play Hero Quest on the Amiga instead on a board.

Excellent made board game conversion that is just a little too faithful to the original and ends up being boring.

Nice graphics, awesome music but tedious gameplay if you're playing it alone.
I made a video review which can be found here:

Well, I think a 6 is still an above-average score. Far be it from me to label 'Hero Quest' as a bad game - but I think, it will become very boring when you play it alone. Playing it with some friends, things look far better! So, the score of 6 refers only to the single-player mode of the game - regarding to the multiplayer mode I would give 'Hero Quest' an 8...

In terms of the remaining categories: I find that good graphics, a great sound as well as an exemplary playability alone still don't make a good game...

Space Crusade & Heroquest are based on a similiar rule set so they will be identical. Gremlin was trying to capture the feel of the board game which they did amicably. You don't change the rule set like in AD&D otherwise it will bring instability to the rules. Heroquest and Space Crusade follow there own rule set or path. Then again, I don't know how you concluded on a 6/10, from 8,9,8 marks earlier, but it is your review.

I agree, moebius. Hero Quest is in principle the same thing as Space Crusade but in fantasy world. I like it much. This game together with Darkmere make the most successful games in stirring up atmosphere for the player(s).

Gremlin had two hits with their "board game conversions" in this one and Space Crusade - both faithful to their origin and both simply superb games.

Somewhat annoying interface, and I wish we saw animation of the monsters moving, but this is a very faithful board game conversion and a very fun game to boot.

Great intro and good turn based gameplay. Captures the spirit of the boardgame and adds that special Amiga something.

Space Marines type of game but this is much better. Some games are magical and enchant all type of gamers. So does hero quest. This year I played the PC version, but it was awful. Great machine this amiga.

This game had some nice touches and theres not many boardgames those days that made them entertaining as this one did. Nice intro too

I Really like this game. Even if it's a board game, it's incredibly atmospheric,...and the intro is great

A nice adaptation of a great and popular boardgame, this was just slightly marred by a less-than-perfect interface. The gameplay was deep and addictive enough to make the player forget about that, though, and the result was a game that after a while had you definitely hooked.
