The unusual mix of strategy, adventure and action works rather well as you allocate resources, recruit new gangsters, bribe the Alderman and shoot rivals/opponents. It is quite satisfying to finally defeat Santucci and his gang.

I remember I wanted this game badly before I got an Amiga, always looking at the box whenever I was in a videogame store. When I finally got one, and eventually got the game, I thought it was okay. The music sounds like it's performed by someone with cerebral paresis, the characters are unlikable, the gameplay is very limited, and it's also very short. Yet there was something about it, which I can't explain, that made me play it again and again.

I enjoyed the game, I really did. Love the dialogs and action scenes, graphics were very nice (1987!) and even the music was cool.
However the ending was kinda disappointing.
One of the first interactive movies ever. Cinemaware should have done more games like King of Chicago.

Different strokes for different folks--'King Of Chicago' wasn't my cup of tea. But I may play 'King' again sometime just to see some of those late '80's memories. 'King' has some good points, but I remember being disappointed with the 'static' way that this Cinema-ware title played.
In Playboy magazine, I think--there was a review of this game, singing the praises of its super-realism; I was young and I had to have it. In a short march of hours I learned that my ambition in life was not to be a gangster--I did not care for the 'commit murder to get ahead' aspect/mentality of the game.

The worst cineware game ever. Just an endless read & click orgy without any atmosphere.

Cinemaware always stood for originality, and this is no exception. I never finished the game, but I played it quite a lot. And considering its age it still holds up pretty well!

Excellent Cinemaware game. One of the less linear ones. Many ways to achieve your goal, if I remember well, and a great prohibition/hollywood atmosphere. I haven't found an equivalent yet, as "Gangsters" was disappointing, and "Mafia" just a shooter (an incredibly awesome game in its own style). "King of Chicago"s perspective is still rare.

I used to love this game. Even it was real pain with only one discdrive on Amiga 1000.
Sometimes they did murder me, but many times I was King Of Chicago

Now THIS is what Cinemaware was all about. While the graphics looks somewhat rigid in comparison with other Cinemaware games, they allowed much more combinations of characters on screen, and interaction, creating a very deep story that was ever changing. Very involving and complex game.
