So a vertically-scrolling overhead racing game has (1) a viewport that stretches horizontally with a huge HUD at the bottom, and (2) deadly collisions even at ridiculously low speeds. I usually don't blurt it out like this, but what kind of explanation could that possibly have, other than being designed by either a complete sadist or a demented idiot? It wasn't so hard to follow the example of Spy Hunter, damnit!

Unplayable game and poor for its time, too.

Who complains about this version should try C64... Well I have the Amiga Sector One with +5 trainer. Even with that is still difficult. Not impossible but difficult in way it causes the game to loose the fun factor. I finished the 1st track and it took me a handful of tranquilizer to not to go crazy. After the successful finish the BRS hammer come next. (Big Red Switch usually main power). So if someone would make such a game in AMOS as practice I would say good start, consider bigger visibility less punishing walls (make on 1 hit like 5% dmg and changing difficulty would increase the volume) and so on. But nope, this one was commercial product once... I wonder how many copy was sold total. Anyway. If you happen to have the mentioned TRAINER version and you think your nerves made from steel here is the chance to see how far you will get before ... Hit the s

I bought it on budget too ... Had merely high hopes for it ... What can I say ... All of these have been blasted mostly by bad steering and stupid level design. Though it had potential I can't really recommend this to anybody ...

What an awful conversion. I don't know what Hewson was thinking and expecting when they released this game on Amiga two years after the premiere of original. They basically ruined everything what was good in 8-bit version. Graphics are bad and mostly because of it the game sucks. Complete change of level design also didn't help. I like the original version but I hate Amiga conversion. It's worth giving a try but not on Amiga.

Absolutely crap! The worst racing game (if we can call it so) ever seen on Amiga; unplayable, graphically pure rubbish and very very boring and frustrating. Anyway, what could you expect from Hewson? They NEVER did a good game!

Bought this and 'Warzone' from that super-budget (£2.99) range. Guess they were both that price for a reason! 2/10

I bought 5th Gear for the low price of about two Deutschmarks in 1997. I had hoped it would be a good racing game. As it turned out, it was neither good nor a racing game.

I used to have an Amiga years ago (well, me and my bro did!) and never had the misfortune to play this. Recently I bought an Amiga 1200 on Ebay and have basically caught up with a lot of games that I missed first time around. This one is verging on the infuriating! I had the C64 version which was far better and I could actually get somewhere with. Could have been a lot better.
