Visually, Traders is a definitive upgrade from M.U.L.E. André Wüthrich is really good at creating appealing graphics with a limited palette. This is apparent in his other titles as well.

This is my favorite game of all times and all platforms! Hands down!
Game is not so fun to play versus computer players but it really shines when played against human players.
Gameplay moves in stages: there's land snatching phase, resource seeding phase, random planet resource search phase, resource trading phase, shopping for attack robot and defense phase, looting phase, refill-lottery-stocks phase and tax paying phase. It sounds complicated but phases flow really nicely and decisions from one phase has effects on other phases.
In the end, the looting phase is so good, where you and you opponents drive robots to loot each other in a top-down view, just priceless...

This is obviously a clone of M.U.L.E. But a very good one! It may be a bit tricky remembering the production table (rabbits, flowers, etc.) and the auctions are maybe a TAD too fast especially in the first games, but if you like good multiplayer strategy games, you'll be in for a treat with this one.
