Very repetitive. Got bored after level 10. Compared to the arcade version, either the cars are too big or the roads too narrow. You keep bumping into anything and the sound it makes is annoying. I once was stuck and luckily the level was still scrolling down so my car got reset. Had it been near the goal, I couldn't have done anything to get out. I guess that Nitro was inspired by the arcade original and improved on it.

The immediate thing that strikes me about this game is that the C64 version has much more authentic graphics compared to the arcade version in terms of proportion and size, and I can't understand why the Amiga version couldn't be a graphically more accurate conversion, to the point of being arcade perfect even.

As Karpow said, this game is just too easy, I started playing this yesterday for the first time and made my way to level 105. Then I got bored to it and used savestate to save my progress. Fun for awhile, but gets boring way too quickly because winning is too easy.

Not a bad racing game, when playing this game, it sort of difficult to drive carefully without bumping the edges too many times, because it will be a waste of fuel. But now I'm starting to get the hang of it.

Even if it was nearly prehistoric when it came to graphics and sounds, Hot Rod was entertaining enough to make the player forget about its dated look. Nice, albeit not exactly long-lasting.
