One of the best "cute" platform games on the Amiga. Much better than failed attempts like Zool or Superfrog, it develops its own gameplay and does not try to imitate famous console games.

Since May this year till today I play this game at least once a day. Especially the whole underwater world (4 levels and a few bonus levels). Even if I memorize everything it doesn't get boring. Thanks to save states (with WinUAE) it's possible to get back to where I want to play.
Music, graphics, sounds and enemies combined add a lot to the atmosphere.

Everyday I play the same amiga games via WinUAE. It's like 1994 and 1995 where I played the Amiga 500 daily. It's great to be able to sink into the worlds of games like Fire & Ice, James Pond II, Lotus II, Turrican 1, 2 & 3, Leander, Gods, Revenge Of The Mutant Camels (the shareware one by Jeff Minter, NOT "II" ), B.C. Kid, Soccer Kid, Hotshot, Helter Skelter and a few more. Those worlds mean a lot to me.

One of the best platformers on the Amiga. Varied gameplay, lots of neat graphical effects, very very tough but in a fair way and satisfying to eventually conquer. The amazing psychedelic end sequence has to be seen to be believed....

Fire and Ice could have easily beaten many contemporary japanese platformers if only a few game design choices had been different. Sluggish controls and instant deaths make this game unbelievably frustrating. This is a real shame since Fire and Ice has a first class technical department, a good level design and a many interesting gameplay elements. A trainer mode limited to one world does not make up for paucity of lives and lack of continues in a regular play, but probably helps the game's learning curve. A platformer for the very hardcore gamer (7/10).

A very good platformer with nice graphics and some very original ideas of power-ups or level completion. Highly recommended, though having some in-game tunes would be nice.

If you're looking for a well-made, fun, and, most of all, challenging, platform game, you need to give Fire & Ice a look, as it is all of these things. I was surprised by this one, as it's pretty console-esque in its design, and the loading times aren't bad, either. Its mechanics and pace are all well-thought-out, the controls feel just right, and there's a lot of depth to it - this isn't a mindless hold-a-direction-and-occasionally-press-a-button sort of game.

I recall hearing that this game also had an interesting anti-piracy method - apparently, if you were using an illegitimate copy, you couldn't grab all of the key parts in order to progress beyond the first level.

Fire & Ice is actually improved somewhat by emulation (it's legally available from preservation site, Back to the Roots, too!), as the requirement of pressing Up to jump makes things much harder than they need to be if played using the original control method of a one-button joystick. It's much better when you can re-map Up to a button in its own right!

I really want to like this game. Interesting gameplay, lovely GFX. Its just too sodding hard... Theres no continues! Cant even get passed level 3. Joins the long list of near impossible or just totally impossible to complete games on the Amiga.

A mediocre game, and massively overrated here. The Atari ST graphics are far from "lovely" with their limited palette and choppy scrolling, the chiptune music is grating after a few minutes (and I like chiptunes), and the slippery controls combine with the laggy engine to make playing it needlessly frustrating. Trying to get an errant puppy to reliably follow the unimaginatively-named "Cool Coyote" can also be irritating, and the key-hunting element feels perfunctory and tacked-on.

On the plus side, the level design is all right, and the cute, cartoony atmosphere certainly doesn't hurt. The puppies can be irritating, yes, but it's the implementation that's at fault here; the concept adds a certain amount of depth to the game and feels less run-of-the-mill than simple collection (like, say, the key-hunting) would. Not that I've really mentioned much here, as - sadly - there isn't much to mention in this area, but it feels like it was an honest, heartfelt effort in its original form, even though this Amiga port reeks of laziness.

On its home platform, Fire and Ice is rather respectable - though not on the level of, say, Gods or Nicky Boum - but its apathetic transition to the Amiga does it no favors, and it suffers immensely as a result.

This is so great game! That rating scale wasn't big enough for this game. I can't belive somebody gave less than 10 points. I've played this when I was 5 years old. I played the whole game through propably 10 times ('cause there were laso lots of other games to play). Then there were 8 years break 'cause are Amiga broke down I got a new one recently. I almost cried when i played it again Play this!!! With a real Amiga!!!

This is a platformer!!
Graphics are ultra cute at first levels.. Later turns a bit creepy, but CoolCoyote still being one of the cutest sprite in gaming history.
Also you'll find the collect´m´up factor of the game is very high.. You cannot avoid to search across the levels to retrieve all fruits, cakes, gems, chocolates, coins, presents... Really addictive

Brilliant game. Great graphics and sound effects and the title music is cool. Very playable if a bit tricky in places. I never get far in this I just love playing it.

Another favourite game of mine.
I love this one to bits, but it can be unforgiving at times as it's quite hard in places.
Personally I prefer the Xmas special edition, given away with Amiga Power (iirc) but still love it.

This was my favourite Amiga game for a very long time, and I played it a lot as a kid. It's no secret that Fire and Ice is difficult and challenging, but it's also incredibly addictive and replayable.

Years ago I would only ever use the infinite lives mode, and even then completing the game wasn't a quick and easy task. Only recently have I managed to finish the entire game without the cheat, and as if the other levels weren't hard enough, the final boss is just insane. A great adventure though! I always adored Cool Coyote, and the little puppy sidekicks are a really nice touch - especially when they give you an extra life for getting them to the exit.

The level design is intriguing and exciting throughout, and the graphics are of very high quality. The opening theme music is nice, although the quality of the ingame music isn't as good. But the musical score is still catchy and memorable without being annoying. The controls are nice and simple, although Cool Coyote does tend to slip around a lot and controlling him takes some mastering!

I still play and love this game today, and I rarely play platform games nowadays so this one definitely has a special place in my heart. Besides, it's taught me a lot of patience!

I highly recommend Fire and Ice to any platform gamers looking for a real challenge.

Great game but I have to give the advantage to the CD32 version. After playing that one the backgrounds on this floppy version just look plain. The fun gameplay is still there but it never quite looks right.

One of my favorite platform games.

Far too hard without cheats, lovely graphics. Underwater levels had a crazy lazy dangerous atmosphere to them. One of my best memories of the Amiga was plodding through them.

Hmm, there were a bunch of things wrong with this game, the fiendish difficulty and the jaggy scrolling being the flaws I remember the most. Hunting for the key pieces also struck me as annoying because it meant you couldn't just breeze through the levels. I never managed to beat the game and I remember the underwater world being really tedious. Better music would've been nice as well, the ice stage music seemed to have Atari-esque synths. It's a bit of a shame because the game had a lot of potential.

A large game. Many levels. I like the overview at the bottom of the screen. Nice graphics and lovely music. The sunrise looks pretty nice. Imo this game was a little bít too difficult. I also had one version with trainer so I even reached the end. But it was hard work

No doubt the setup, level codes, etc.... Could have been more user friendly and this detracts form the experience...probally turns a potentially excellent platformer into a solid game, drowning in its own self imposed frustration.... 79/100 For Mine...

I really enjoyed this one but the lack of savegame or level codes made it a frustrating venture later on. To be killed off nearly instantly at the start of the 6 or 7th level was just soul destroying. Nice but tough.

Looks and sounds (even plays) great, but... Well, a save game / password option would have made it worthwile playing this past the first levels. I just didn't find it addictive enough.

Fire and Ice is a very cool platformer with a very strange plot (I will not tell it here folks, sorry!). Graphically brilliant. Sonically so so, nothing special and gameplaywise hard, but fun. There are many original ideas in this game and a huge variety of weapons. I missed a password system or something, though! That's a shame!

Graphics: 8/10
Sound: 7/10
Playability: 8/10

Overall: 8/10

I really liked this one, the skiddy platforms did take a while to get used to but it was still fun. I thought the graphics had a lot more character and lively colour than a lot of Amiga games too. I would recommend giving this game a whirl.

Hmm.. Seems like I'm the only one that quite enjoyed this one, certainly up their with one of my Amiga platformer favourites, James Pond 2 and Cool Spot. The sprites were really well done in this, ill just play it admire the graphics.

One of the last Graftgold games, but not as succesfull like their previous hits Paradroid, Uridium and more. I have never liked Fire & Ice, probably because of its difficulty (you can die very often due the skiddy platforms) and non-sympathic main character. The graphics and other technical specifications are on Graftgold´s high standart, though, which means they are excellent.
