One of the best ZX games. But Amiga would deserve MORE! Anyway, it's still playable. So to be fair, I have to rate the game, not its platform port. Bomb Jack is maybe the first game I've played seriously and it was great! More than 30yrs ago...

I remember seeing this game when I was a teenager in the local arcade and really liking it as it was certainly so much better than what was available on the Speccy. The Spectrum conversion was faithful as much as it could be but felt bland to me.

Jump to a couple of years later and I ditched my Speccy for the Amiga and perusing my local shop I found this game on budget re-release so snatched it up. I guess I was expecting an arcade perfect conversion, sadly I was to be disappointed. The game play is there but the tunes the sounds and the graphics simply aren't up to the standard of the arcade (which wasn't an especially high standard to start with). This is either an example of lazy programming or programmers unaware of what the Amiga could do.

Up shot is its worth a nosey if you have an emulator and grab the adf file but other than that its not much cop. 3/10

The commy version was one of the first games I played in my life at my uncle's living room. Somehow I personally think the gameplay on the old breadbin is somewhat better. Maybe it's just me having a sweetspot for difficult games with easy principles ... Who knows ...

The Amiga version IMHO is on par with Bubble Bobble, so I wonder about the relatively low score of Bomb Jack ... Maybe it's just a bit too frustrating for some?

One of my favourite Spectrum games but a rather disappointing conversion to the 16bit world. The Amiga was capable of sooooooooooooooo much better that it hurts. What a pitiful shame.

I didn't grow up with games like this, and that is probably the reason the gameplay in games like Bomb Jack feels woefully archaic to me. It is too simple and to repetitive to hold my attention for longer than half an hour or so.

Good game, addictive and original. But is bad ported to the Amiga: I know the hardware could do more impressive things than this weak ST straight port (as said here)

Another dissapointment.. This should be a piece of cake for the Amiga..
It's just a weak ST conversion port!

An ST port again although I won't be too hard on this occasion as it was Bomb Jack and just a fun game to pick up and play! Trying to get the full firebomb bonus was always addictive!

OMG! My first game in my life! I played this game first time 24 years ago when I was 8 on my new ZX Spectrum+. Now, thanks to WinUAE I can still play it together with my 9 years old son on my AMD Phenom. Immortal game for generations

What can I say, I really like Bomb Jack. Owned it on the Commodore C16 and on the Amstrad CPC, both of which were awesome versions.
However, I've also played the Atari ST version and the Commodore C64 version too.
When I put the Bomb Jack disk in my A500's drive, I saw that familiar looking title screen and that rather dodgy music - "THAT'S RIPPED FROM THE ST VERSION - CHEEKY GITS!" was what I yelled instantly.
This is one really lame ST port. It's a shame really, as Bomb Jack was fun in the arcades and on the 8-bits, but unfortunately there isn't a good 16-bit version anywhere!

6/10 - being generous as I like Bomb Jack

Whilst BombJack was seemingly not very ground breaking and it didnt really do anything to grab your attention, the game was and still is very alluring and its very addictive. Top game!

Oh my god! Someone had to play this game to take screenshots.... This is one of the worst things that you can play on Amiga. I prefer the C64 version which is far superior by any means, especially the music of cooksey!

Pure crap in my opinion, at last the C64 version had a great music...

Well the C64 version stunk to high heaven.. The only reason to load that up was the great music.. But the Amiga version dumped that and kept the gameplay.. Poop on a stick.. A very poor effort.

Yeah this was a cheap ST port alright, of a fun arcade game

This has 'lame ST port' written all over it, and since the ST version lacks the fluid gameplay of the excellent Spectrum conversion, that makes it a loser on many counts. If this was the only way of playing Bombjack I'd make allowances, but with MAME on one side and ZXSpin or similar on the other, forget it.

I loved the C64 version, but when I played the Amiga version, I couldn't believe how rubbish it was! The graphics and the sound was the most disappointing thing about this game which I'd expect to be far better than the 8bit version...

The conversion is OK as long as you don't try the original arcade version, which has some additional things. It would have been easy to make a carbon copy of the arcade game (or something better) but they were too lazy.

Arcade classic. The Amiga version is alright I guess, but nothing spectacular. It's simple fun. Worth a try.

Quite similar to the C64 version, but with different graphics, sounds and tunes as well but same sort of clips. From my point of view this version on the Amiga is even better than the C64. Bit slow but easier to play on, on C64 is a bit too fast and a bit harder as well, but I still like that version as well.

Never played this version, only c64's (which was not so bad as Mr. Lane tells), but looking at the graphics it seems to reproduce accurately the original's.

I loved the arcade game, but Amiga conversion sucks, just like C64 one. Not as bad as sequel, though.
