The controls feel finicky and sluggish at first, but when you get used to it they are very good. Also the graphics look choppy at first glance, but they do their job. Overall, compared to so many great looking platformers with bad playability on the Amiga, this game is a nice refreshment. I like it!

I know this game is rubbish but it has a special place in my heart. After unpacking my brand new cartoon classics A500+, this was the very first game I played and it blew me away. After moving from my old Amstrad CPC 464 to this, it was a whole new world.

I'll give it a score that is halfway between its subjective value (4/10) and the value it holds sentimentally (10/10) - overall 7/10.

Bought this game full price back in the day and it's one the the actions I most regret ever taking. It was one of the very first games I bought so it ended up being a bitter lesson. I was ill-advised by a friend who spoke absolute wonders about the game. He also had an Amiga and loved the game. I committed the foul mistake of buying a game based on the opinion of third-party without reading any magazine review or without trying a demo or even witnessing the said friend playing the game. Lesson learned.
The game itself was a jerky, slow, uninspired platformer that just suck at life.

I'll give this game 10/10 only because it's the first amiga game i had ever played and it brings down memories, I was 10 years old back in 1991 so...yeah!

It wasn't in the top rank of Amiga platform games, but it had a wide audience because it was bundled with the A500 and A500+ in the Cartoon Classics package (along with the marvellous Lemmings and the not-so-marvellous The Simpsons: Bart vs the Space Mutants).
It had its moments, but my abiding memory is the absurdity of the missions. In one of the early levels you had to patch up the ozone layer in order to escort some seals across it to safety. Not only is ozone a gas, it is a toxic gas.

Average platformer, pretty short too which doesn't help its case. Riddled with what I can only describe as bugs, rubbish collision detection and in some cases complete lack of character (especially the vehicles) control making for frustrating gameplay and plenty of dying.

On the plus side, yes, a plus side, the cartoon element to the game is almost spot on, the character design and drawings are very well done and the graphics themselves aren't too bad, colourful to say the least. Each character powers are very close to the cartoon (apart from Heart maybe, what was that all about?) and the music is quite funky in places, most of this games score comes from sticking so close to its source material.

Really let down but the poor gameplay and the rushed feel to the game, almost feels unfinished and could have done with a lot more testing and polishing. Then again, even with todays 'tie-in' games its generally about getting them out quickly and selling copies before anyone notices how bad the game is.

This game certainly appealed to me in my childhood but mainly because I was a big fan of the cartoon.

Spent hours on this game as i child, the upbeat music gives me memories. The gameplay was good except for the jumping lets it down alot. The levels are all completely different so it doesnt get to repetitive. 7/10 because its a classic to me.

I played it every once in a while and remembered it clearly throughout the years. The graphics are very colourful and welcoming, and the music is pretty cool, but the character sprites are very small and not detailed. My favourite thing about the game is that every time you kill a monster, it follows you around the level and gives you a bonus every time you score points, though you lose all your monster sidekicks when you have to save yourself from a fatal fall or lose a life.

Not a great game, but fans of the show can probably appreciate it. All the characters and their special powers were there, and the controls weren't too bad either.

Oh, and here's something fun. While on the wind level, listen carefully to the sound effects. Sometimes they randomly change speed and pitch. This isn't necessarily a good thing as such but it sure is entertaining!

I remember Captain Planet vaguely as a cartoon I used to see on television when I was a kid. I don't think I thought it was very cool, otherwise it would be more familiar to me. And that makes me believe the cartoon must have been something like this translation to the Amiga. The thing which I disliked the most is the playability. You can not combine certain actions, which are a normality in pretty much every other platformer. Shooting while jumping for instance, this is not possible in Captain Planet. And general movement is slugisch and slow, so quick responses are almost impossible. Also (although this is a realistic adoption of real-time physics in Captain Planet!), steering while in the air is not possible, which is very frustrating when you fall of a ledge and you pass all sorts of platforms by just a few pixels and you can not "float" towards them. You do have balloons though which will fly you back to where you fell from, but still. Basically Captain Planer is a combination of ideas, which have all been done better before. Graphics are pretty colourfull, but not very interesting and the jolly music is not very good either. To wrap this one up (I am surprised of the amount of literature I wrote on this very mediocre game!), "Captain Planet and his Planeteers is just for the die hard fans of the original cartoon series or maybe also for the environmentalists among you".

Graphics: 6/10
Sound: 6/10
Playability: 4/10

Overall: 5/10

What the hell was Anthony Crowther thinking when he wrote this?

You simply can't go from the sublime Captive to this pap!!!

Awful playability and well everything really!

My childhood game.....ahhh..its been over 10 years since I last played this...and just played it this very minute...it makes me feel ten years old again. The music will always have a special place in my heart especially the title music. The game itself, okay..so its captain planet, but who cares it still amazes me today. Its a little bit choppy control wise, and there is no croutch. On the plus side I like the colourful graphics however. But most of all is very fun today =)

This game was incredible in its time. A pure turning point in gaming with a groovy music soundtrack too, lol.
Brings the memories of childhood in the 1990's flooding back.
I even remember when I first played this game it came included with the actual Amiga console as a package and Christmas day 90 (or 91?) .
Completing the entire game is very, very hard work and time consuming (especially the last 2 levels).

The only disapointments I can add to the game is probably the final "Captain Planet" level, its such a disappiontment compared to the previous 5 levels. And another drawback is the level select, listed on the cheats menu, I could never actually get it to work. Which was a shame.

By the way, Kojiroh I have e-mailed you with the solution to rescuing the dolphins on the water level...

I used to love this game in my childhood. Sometimes I think that this game is the reason for my passion to four elements and especially fire; since it's the first level of the game.
It's a low quality game: bad graphics, lots of bugs, difficult controls, not that bad music, etc. But I still love it; I wonder why.
Anyways, now I've got this game again, and I'm still playing it for hours. But I wonder how I can get through the second (water) level. I've cleaned up the water, got rid of every enemies, but I can't open the taps. In fact, I could only open the top right tap, the biggest one. And if I release a dolphin in this situation, he dies.
If someone knows what I'm missing, or doing wrong, please tell me. I'd appreciate it.

This was the first game we put into our brand new Amiga 500+ (Cartoon Classics) on that christmas day, 1992 I think, and at the time my little brother was mad on the Captain Planet cartoon so he LOVED this! I have to admit, I love it too, but almost entirely because when I still load it (yes the original 15 year old disk is still working perfectly!), it reminds me of me and my little brother taking it in turns to complete the levels when we were about 9 and 7 respectively. Those were the days. Incredible.

Loved the cartoon. The game itself is a lot of fun but suffers from quite a few flaws.

Captain Planet, he's our hero Gonna take pollution down to zero
He's our powers, magnified and he's fighting on the planets siiiiddddeee.

The planeteers sing this bit:

We're the planateers, you can be one to Cos saving the planet is the thing to do! Looting and polluting, Is not the way, Hear what Captain Planet, has to say!

Bad Guy says this line:

You'll pay for this Captain Planet!

This was bad, but great fun. I too got it with the cartoon pack and I have fond memories of playing it. I got all the way up to the last level where you control captain planet himself and for some reason I suddenly lost interest in it and went off to buy a new game.

Must be one of the worst Amiga games I have played, despite the average graphics. The controls were really horrible and the game crashed often for no reason at all.

Hard to believe that the guy who wrote the classic Captive was behind this badly-designed generic platformer, where horrid collision detection and no invincibly period when you restart combine to make things infuriating. As it was bundled with the Amiga at one point, this will've been the first Amiga platformer a lot of people played - a good job there were a lot better out there as well.
