I wanted to like this - a lot - but those controls, really... What were they thinking? I spent more time trying to pull off two punches in sequence than doing anything else in the game. It kept doing those stupid fire breaths instead, and the problem is amplified tenfold during the versus fighting minigame.
This by the way should have rung an alarm bell already back in 1988, to software houses and hardware companies alike: two-button controllers should have been supported and encouraged from the start, as with nearly every console system of the time. They even made an arcade board for this one, so how could they all be so blind?
Worth no more than fifteen minutes of your time.

Quite enjoyable for ten minutes or half an hour of casual destruction, the graphics are nice, gave it a 6.

Such a basic game that could have been great but becomes boring very quickly. You choose one of two giant monsters. A Cyclops or giant Lizard and you go around smashing up huts and other areas of ancient villages. You are looking for objects and eggs to collect before you take on a boss character. You have fire breath you can use and melee attacks as you fend off all the littles trying to attack you.
Its a weird version of Rampage without the climbing buildings. Just everything else. The game just repeats and repeats non stop offering little variety and challenge. Should have and could have been so much more than it turns out to be.
You will play it a few times and then never touch it again. Its one of those games that seemed like a good idea but never reaches its potential.
The controls also leave a lot to be desired and given such a basic game the controls shouldn't have been such an issue.
I enjoy Rampage, this game though is more no frills than fun. 4/10.

Its fun for one minute. You will try three more times and never touch it again

Pretty nice idea and good gfx. This game could be fun, but the controls destroy it; especially if you try to stomp catapults into the ground. Actually, your creature won't ever do what you want it to do.

Great fun for a little while but the gameplay soon became repetitive as the novelty wore off. The 2 player option added a little more fun but nott much.

Loved Rampage, so kinda hated this, really only played it when nothing else was available

This game is some sort of misunderstanding. I do not recommend it at all. I should even say: AVOID!

Nice game but controls were totally crap. Such a shame, could have been much better. Lots of fun destroying villages and eating peasants anyway. :-D

Cute idea, but that was all. Not a good game, really.

There should be a high score saver. It's rather easy to complete. But destroying holy cultural icons was fun. Anarchists should love this game. I give it a 7/10. Haywire

Good idea, but non realized as well ..
It misses for 2 players and the game it's sooo stupid to finish even at first play. An occasion missed, so rampage still rocks !

It could be a decent Rampage clone, but why controls are so crap?

Alternate version of Rampage, that apart from Lovely looks, pretty much got everything wrong... Would have been a lot worse without the 2 play option... Missed opportunity... 51/100 For Mine...

I tried not to get influenced by he fact this game was actually a lot of fun, graphically pleasant, and very cool to play with a friend. I gave it a 8/10 solely because it has the best computer game name ever.
Horror Zombies From The Crypt comes only second, in that respect.

The controls are jerky, the action is repetitive, and the game as a whole is too easy. However, I had fun playing Aaargh!, probably more fun than with the Amiga version of Rampage. Destroying those little villages and eating their inhabitants is entertaining - at least until the novelty value wears off.

Well, I really liked it. Mind you I was around eleven when I first played it on my mate's A1000, and it was one of the first Amiga games I ever saw, so I'm definitely looking at it through rose coloured glasses. The graphics and sound were sheer class at the time (and they're still not too bad nowadays), and it was fun to play, in a mindless, repetitive way. It's just got this weird charm about it that I've never been able to shake, and I still play it every now and then for a laugh. I think Gordo's Zzap! Crew gave it a score in the 80s at the time, and in hindsight I think they were spot on. It's not one for those seeking a challenge - it's one of those games you waltz through every time you play it - but if you're looking for something a bit different, give it a go, you never know. 8/10.

With "rampage" not available on the Amiga until 1989, "aargh!" was the only alternative. It is also the best of the much-hyped "arcadia" releases (that Trantor reflects on below) since the player can destroy virtually anything in several, very mean ways and bash his (human) opponent to boot.
the visual design seems very underdeveloped and rushed, which is unfortunate as its potential is clearly visible. "aargh!" thus never managed to be anything more than an average, early Amiga title.
still, the two-player mode, a given in all "arcadia"-titles, was used to great effect here. It is good fun and quite competitive really. One would not believe how harsh pals could be. It is the fond memory of such exciting confrontations that still make "aargh!" a nice little thing.

I remember seing this game passing my desk. Loaded it once but I didn't think much of it. It just didn't do it for me.

Not a bad game... Just not that good either. Tries to do Rampage one better and fails in every way.

Arcadia... Where to begin. The attempt to make arcade games using Amiga hardware and then release the "Arcade perfect" titles for home sales wasn't really all that great of a concept. Unlike the NeoGeo, Arcadia's games didn't look any better than the games already available for home play, and... Well they didn't play any better either. And just like NeoGeo games, most of them didn't really work as home games.
