The graphics looks funny not evil like in the NES version , the control is fluid like bad reaction with the whip , when you falling down and die you scream like a PIG. The framerate when you movie is terrible.
Very bad game on Amiga , very bad ! Very bad !

Much better graphics than the NES version, but crappier gameplay. The zombies/ghouls in the first stage are much bigger than the player and keep respawning too fast. As you can't jump over them, you either need to fight them and move forward pixel by pixel, or you just run for it losing energy.

For Castlevania it hat to come at least to Aria of Sorrow for me to enjoy it. But this very one I can absolutely recommend to nearly anybody without any regrets. Just forget about any previous version, especially the 3D one on the N64 wich is a shame since other series (e.g. Super Mario) got their best episodes on this very machine. Too bad it sealed the same fate as the whole amiga series in the 90s being raped by arrogant magazine editors and readers believing to false gods instead of hearing to their very own senses.

Just fail, more fail, throw in some epic fail and then you have a BIBLICAL fail. The programmers should be hung, drawn and quartered for this atrocity. Not as bad as E.T on ZX, but coming on strong.

Brr, a real bad game. It's not worth a try

Control and collision are so bad it almost seems like a mockery of the original. Feels like it was programmed by a smart ass 7th grader named Chad.

The game isn't that bad, but several sections of the game are made considerabely harder due to the stiffness of your jump and the control scheme. The merman part of stage 10 is nearly impossible due to the merman jumping up where you're standing and almost immediately after you cross a certain pixel, making avoiding being hit by them ridiculous. The stage in the final section of the game where you fight the giant bats is complicated by the bats always seeming to move upwards when you jump. And the Grim Reaper battle is complicated by the fact that you have to hold down the attack button to throw a special weapon, which makes you miss almost every time.
But getting to the end is rewarding simply to see Dracula's derpy face and the Amiga version of the "cookie monster" which is....shall we say, different from the NES version.

Looks great but all the fluid control of the Konami original is completely lost, and the time delay for the attack renders it pain in the ass to play. So disappointing & a lost opportunity because Novotrade went on to make some great games.

Lousy controls, run way below the frame for no apparent reason, approximative collisions detection, insane difficulty, lame protracker music. Another wasted opportunity. I wonder if konami are even aware of this port.

Could have been a good game if the makers just have bothered to implement som decent sprite movements and collision detection. Quite nice music in this version also. The intro music and the first stag BGM are kinda "cozy"

This game is a shame to the Castlevania series, in fact, it's not even worthy of being called Castlevania. Castlevania for the NES was a pure classic, but this one just sucks donkey balls, it may deliver great 16-Bit graphics compared to the NES version, but the gameplay, sound, music placement and enemy design are just horrible. Oh, and if you though Castlevania for the NES was hard, then rest assure you, the difficulty in this game is legendary, I congratulate anyone who manages to finish this horrible game in one sitting without even using a trainer, but trust me, it doesn't worth it. If I ever get the chance, I'll video-review this game and smash it to pieces, Angry Video Game Nerd style!

A terrible port

This conversion makes a wreckage out of an excellent Nintendo game.

What a lame port that is. The Amiga would have been quite a nice platform for a Castlevania episode, but well..

One of my biggest dissapointments was this conversion...it is just bad!

Have to agree with everyone here: after playing the C64 conversion (graphically-inferior, but FAR more playable) this was just a shame. I'm lucky to get past the first stage on my LAST life. Not to mention a lot of music wasn't in the right place. Just what was Novatrade thinking?

Painfully crappy conversion... Gave it 2

Sub standard conversion of a decent game. Painful to play now if you've played anything from Super Castlevania IV and the PC Engines Rondo of Blood and onwards...

Ugly and not particularly good version of 'Castlevania'.

In retrospect this game is very slow and clumsy. But back when it was released it was the best looking conversion of Castlevania available. The colourful graphics mixed with the solid gameplay made for a fun game. Nowadays though it's virtually unplayable due to the slow speed (damn you Symphony of Darkness for showing us how good a 2D Castelavania should be!)
