A rare bullet hell on the Amiga, and a very good one. Plenty of fast action to enjoy.

Mega Typhoon is sometimes considered a clone of Raiden but it's actually more influenced by early manic shooters, probably being the only Amiga game (kind of) belonging to the genre. Also, it manages to be gameplay wise close to its japanese contemporaries and quite fun, even though player's hit box is less forgiving than it should be and smart bombs are not so smart. Abundance of continues sort of balances those playability flaws. Despite being technically raw at times, it is an interesting game to play on the Amiga (7/10).

There is nothing more like it on Amiga you'd need to play SNES or MAME instead. It's chaotic and spectacular but sometimes frustrating and unfair while other titles like Battle Squadron is not so difficult but not so exciting.Different emotions and opposite poles, matter of taste to the end of the day.The two games can coexist, they are very different.

Amazingly fast, plays just like any of those crazy fast vertical shoot em ups you got in the arcades in the late nineties.
It also runs at full 50fps and is very responsive. Nice selection of power ups which are reminiscent of raiden. Two button option.

Now for the low points
GFX have a bit of an unfinished look to them and it has a very limited colour palette. But you can forgive this as it’s obviously to keep the game play super smooth and fast.
No Music. This is a bummer; with a simple tune in the back ground this could have made this game more arcadey. Even something sounding like a SID would do, like in Battle Squadron.
And finally, it came out to late.
Apart from that, definitely one to check out!

This game has just 4 levels ????
after you have completed level 4, it continues from level 1, and with the 4 or 5 continues it give to you, and the various 1up bonus, you will complete it at your 1 or second tryout (I finished it at my 3rd tryout). That ruins the game could have been one of the great vertical shoot-em up for the Amiga.

That's a pity cause the programmer of this game is a genius!

Battle squadron is an antedeluvian amateur'n'sloppy game compared to that one. Mega typhoon has the word "arcade" written all over it and came really close to megadrive/pc engine schmups in terms of action, variety and rhythm/pacing (the most important part of a schmup imho), too bad it took too many years to achieve that. Some of the gfx aren't too appealing but it's gameplay is far better than any other shmup which have seen the light of day on that machine and it's probably the one that comes the closest from being a manic shooter on Amiga.

The second best vertical shooter, right after Battle Squadron !

This is as close as you can get to japanese Shoot'em Ups like Do Don Pachi for example. It doesn't get more japanese than this. Very good bulletspewer on the humble Amiga with some weird, but OK graphics. Too bad it came too late.

Smooth scrooling action but extremely difficult... Crappy sfx, but still one of the better shumps for the A500!

Had this back in 1996.. And I think it was the last game I ever bought for my A500... But I never played it cause after the fixed intro with the naked babe the damned thing refused to load.. I must have tried it more than 100 times but nada.. Anyway I recently gave it a go on WinUAE it reminded me of "raiden" another gr8 shooter ..am not sure about the 50ffps I somewhere in the forums read about it nevertheless its a descent but limited shooter worthy of a couple of hours of entertaiment
