With an 060 + JIT, this game is only just bearable to play and has just enough speed to feel like you're getting somewhere. The 'England' stages have weather, and there are very impressive sand storms and snow storms on some levels; which require windscreen wipers (name another game which relies on the wipers, yes exactly!, I can only think of Die Hard 3 on PS1). The car just doesnt feel right and has too much grip, or not enough on Finland, and the whole experience just sucks. You even have to manually spend 10mins programming your co-driver to give the right instructions or you're gonna be off the road on any given level. The snow levels are by far the best, but still you must know the levels or its crash after crash. Avoid.

Reviews for Celica GT Rally appear to have been pretty mixed, with scores ranging from 39% to 86%. I am kinda torn about the game as well. The steering feels too gamey for a simulation. Moreover, the low framerate prevents the impression you're actually on a racing track.

Quality game. Controls take a bit of getting used to--I had to experiment with sensitivity and practice tapping the left/right controls to 'tap' the steering back to center--when I got this, the game moves along pretty good. Graphics for this 1990 racer are ok, as is the sound. The 'sandstorm' feature, although unique, is something I found rather distracting. Overall, this one's pretty good.

Although i didnt play this one a lot, there were some things i found rather novel such as the sand storm, in car view with hands on the wheel, and the rain with the wipers... Whilst not a spectacular game, there were a few things that made it stand out from the crowd and it tried to be different

One of the very first games i bought for the Amiga...well nowadays I found out that it's not so good as a game...but to me is one of my first Amiga images, so I cant be harsh with the game...loved the windscreen wipers usage in a rainy level...

I totally agree with mailman, he described the game exactly.

Reading the comments beneath I thought that all of you were playing some totally different game than I was. For me "Celica GT Rally" lacks of any realism. The game is so stiff and plastic like no other game I have ever seen. When driving you have a feeling of steering the cube which just doesn't mind any rules of physics. The game is full of adverts which were supposed to hide the feeling of what a big crap this is. Frankly speaking graphics are nice as long as you look at them. When you press the accelerate pedal you forget about its prettiness and see a snail which is supposed to make it to the end of the stage. Sound is horrible. The engine roars like a killed beast and a sound of squeaking tyres is rejective. The game is so tedious - there is no challenge, you just race against the clock and nothing more. Thank God authors considered a save game option because racing through 30 tracks in one go would be too much. The only innovative things implemented into this game are wipers which remove rain, sand and snow settling on the windscreen and a co-pilot that informs you, using the human voice, about the type of the curve. I strongly DO NOT recommend this game to anyone - even to your foe.

Borrowed this off a friend and was impressed that you could smash and crack your windscreen in. Also having to use the winder wipers was novel. Ahh don't the small things impress you when your young

Celica GT was one of my favourite games back in the days. It offered a very realistic rally experience for the time with nice graphics, good sonix (with a co-driver who shouts the route you'll have to take into your ears) and awesome playability. Also the different weather conditions are a very nice touch! A couple of friends of mine were put of by the level of realism and thus the lack in arcade action. You also drive against the clock instead of against each other (just as in real rally), but that only adds to the realism. Great game!

Graphics: 7/10
Sound: 8/10
Playability: 9/10

Overall: 8/10 (actually 8,5/10!)

Hehe I thought this was a good little racing game although it was hard at times but it had the elements of Test Drive which I liked too

Good game, but the movement of the graphics is a bit slow.

Good rally game! This was the first driving game I played that actually felt realistic - sliding round bends before crashing into trees is great fun.

Really good rally simulator! You can really push the car to the limit. Good graphics and sfx. Playability too! Great fun!
