Loved the first, but this is not good. The split screen is terrible. The graphics are a bit weird. Not fun

Hmmm, this is a different game compared to the original indeed. I did not like the racing towards objects and objectives against another player gameplay unfortunately. I thought the graphics were not as good as the original as well. I haven't played this in 2-player mode, so maybe that makes the game a bit more fun?

Graphics: 8/10
Sound: 7/10
Playability: 4/10

Overall: 5/10

Everybody who was expecting new levels to "The Chaos Engine" was disappointed but if you take a look at the sequel as a completely new and different game, you obtain something original and amazing. Excellent ambient and atmospheric music by Richard Joseph!

This game sadly marks the end of the Bitmap Brothers era ... And, sorry to say so, but I call it a bad excuse. Seeing the Bitmap Brothers finishing off was a shock for me. At least they totally blew it so one hadn't too much stress about it, when this was released. A sad tombstone on the grave of a former legendary software house.

Frantic and good, a worthy sequel.(If a little confusing at times as the computer opponent races away ahead of you before you even know it)!
Practice and experience of the levels helps alleviate this.
And well done to the bitmaps for finishing and releasing it back in 1996 - 8/10

Very disappointing sequel to the original classic. To be honest, I was shocked the Bitmap Brothers released such a game in this condition. Play the original game to remind yourself of what the Bitmap Brothers were capable of. I remember looking forward to this release, only to be bitterly disappointed. Avoid.

Chaos Engine 2 reuses many of the assets (code, graphics, sounds, characters etc.) from the first game and introduces new gameplay mechanics. While the first game focused on cooperative 2-player-action, the second is counteroperative. While I'm not opposed to the change, I feel the first game was more engaging.

Weird game! Don't like too much the idea behind. The first one is a classic, this "sequel" is not even a mere distant shadow of that first
. Technically is not bad, and graphics are not worst than the first, as some said bellow, but... I prefered a cooperative cool game not this weird cockney fight, that pretends to be fun.

What happened here dear Bitmap Brothers? Sometimes innovations are risky... Specially high number of them! Being a bit generous (I appreciate his cool soundtrack, and the coding efforts) I'll put a 5/10. Maybe is it fun playing vs a friend?

A vertically split screen would have given us players a better view of the area. The gameplay is amazing: chase your opponent, get shot by him, stand up again, beat him down to steal his items, get chased by your opponent, get beaten down and have your items stolen... Repeated over and over again, so you don't get the chance to move forward.

Yeah... I really don't know where to start criticizing this game.

The first game was one of the best games ever, even to today, but this... What the hell was this?

A really disappointing sequel that did not improve on any aspect of the original game. Even the graphics look like a poor imitation of the Bitmap Brothers style.

I think even though the game was more or less the same as the original in terms of its level design, GFX and sound it didn't capture my heart like the first one did

This is surely the ultimate in "take the money and run". It doesn't seem to have been playtested at all, and seems to destroy everythign that made the first game so good. I'll never understand the hero-worship for the Bitmap Brothers, they mainly made so-so games and just got lucky a few times.

Wow... I'm stunned by the absolute horridness of this game. It really is nothing like the first game at all, with players going head-to-head racing through levels to complete certain objectives (you play vs a cpu if you don't have a second player). It's split screen, with slow, awkwardly moving sprites, racing style, need to collect ammo make this game so different that after you get your selection of four characters (two apparently are on vacation) you'll hardly recognize the game. If it was a standalone game, I wouldn't play it. As the sequel to the most loved and arguably best Amiga shoot 'em up, this game is just an insult. It feels like they took out everything that made the first Chaos Engine good, and replaced it with crap.

One of the last big games released on Amiga. I liked it a lot but true, first Chaos Engine was better. Sequel was delayed several times and once I thought that it will never see the light of the day. However, I was more than happy when it finally did in 1996. Good fun!

This long-time awaited sequel was a hesitate game. Graphics was good, music too, but the gameplay was a little bit strange. I don´t like this racing style. I don´t tell, that this game is bad, but Chaos Engine 1 was absolute perfection, this one is only ... Average.
