I've been playing the Civilization games since the first one on Amiga back in the early 90's. Now, almost 30 years later, we're up to Civ6. I've liked them all in one way or other, but this first one holds a special place.

Bought it, played it, loved it. Could have been a better conversion, but you can't have everything.

Without HD support almost unplayable on A600. I remember how we created four small partitions on HD and use it instead of FDD somehow. It worked! Much worse than on PC though.
Anyway, Civ 1 is one of the pioneers, one of the greatest.

This breakthrough turn based strategy game pits you against the world! You start off in near prehistoric times researching the wheel and writing while staving off barbarian hordes. As you progress and expand, you'll take advantage of natural resources, expand your cities, trade with other civilizations, conquer enemies, research technologies, build wonders, and more! 10/10.

This is one of the greatest classics of all time. Pity Civ 2 wasn't done for the Amiga. It would have been fully possible and it would have been smashing. Still, I probably count hundreds on hours in front of my old Amiga with Civ 1 one too. It speaks to the very fundamentals of being human - building an own civilization, and doing it better than those who went before us in real history.

I don't know how many hours I lost in this masterpiece, it's truly one of my favorites on Amiga.
Only thing that bothered me was the slow and unskippable intro.

I spent hundreds of hours on this and only beat it once.
It was more fun starting again because as your civilization grows it starts to become tedious keeping on top of everything.
Still, its almost brilliant. 9/10

I tried to get into it... But it just doesnt do it for me! Huge respect for the game as so many people love it, and i like other Sid Meier games as well (love railway tycoon!!). The fact that there are versions still coming out proves how great this game is! I just never got it...
(Did not vote out of respect!

I did only play the PC-version of CIV but I loved it and ... I am still playing it from time to time. Imho it is one of the best games ever (which remembers me that I have to play it again and I think I will try the Amiga-version this time).

This is a great port of a great game. I can't remember how many hours I spent up at night playing the Amiga version of this game.
This is a great port of the game too. With all the versions out there I was privledged to have the Amiga version of it to experience the full depth of the game. Great music, great game play, great graphics compared to the other versions out there.. Sid Meier's dream was lived in full force here.
This game really needs no explanation. You start off as one of many civ choices out there and you try and stand the test of time by building cities, military units and advancing in the technology tree. You take over the world or reach into outer space first and you win. But the path there is so awesome and in depth that it never gets tiresome.
I don't know what else to say. You want a great turn based game from the past, on a great computer too.. Look no furhter this is a 10/10 game.

Greatest game ever played and made. No other words necessary.

Epic... (some more letters then)

In the running for best computer game of all time. As breathtaking and captivating now as it was then, with even its own sequels struggling to match it. This version suffers slightly from being a rushed port, but this is a masterpiece on any platform - anyone who hasn't played it owes it to themselves to try it out NOW. 10/10.

One of the best games that I have played in my life and you can be sure that I have played many. For me the #1 strategy game is UFO #2 is Civilization and #3 is Covert Action!!! All by Microprose and 2 of them by Sid Meier... Unfortunately there is no Microprose and Sid Meier is not the Sid Meier we used to know and love. (Hey I just forgot about Pirates...

Although I am not a huge fan of turn-based strategy games, this one is really something. Very complexed game which offers many hours of joy. It is very addictive and time consuming so watch out. Graphics and music are not something special but they are not so important here. Note: ECS version has many colour reductions so my advise to you: play AGA version.

Sid Meier is god. This game totally blew me away when it was released. Countless number of days have been spent with Civ.

A very complicated but involving game with enormous replay value. The only problem that the conversion to the Amiga was quite badly done, failing to use the Amiga's hardware and operating system properly and instead pretty much trying to "impersonate" a PC. The follow-up to this, 'Colonization', was more tailored to the Amiga and thus ran more smoothly.

Good game. A friend of mine was obssesed with it but it didn't hook me at all. More a game I respect than actually enjoy

Of the games I bought for my Amiga this is the one that I got most value for money from. I must have spent so much time exploring, settling, fighting, researching and building. It's just so engrossing from start to finish even though a game would take hours and hours to play, often finishing at some extremely late hour at night.... Well worth it, though!

I really can't fault the design of this - nothing before it came close to having so many features in such a well-organised way. The second this hit the shelves I knew I had to have it, and put time into mastering it. I never really viewed computer games (strategy games in particular) the same way again. Mesmerising stuff.

Spawned from Dark Empire on the Speccy (I believe) comes the absolute grandfather of all epic turn based strategy. Hugely replayable and absorbing, Civ was (and is, in newer forms) sleep deprivation at it's most enjoyable.

Excellent game, best strategy ever made.!

Sid Meier's finest hour. One of the best games ever made on any platform. Just remember to play AGA version instead ECS version which looks pretty poor. Nevertheless, the games itself is superb on both chipsets.

Lovely game!! One of my best memories were when the game copy protection kicked in and you had to answer a couple of questions. If you got two wrong all your units would lose faith in you and vanish.

Civ 1,2,3 are the games I played the most. I love games that's open and replayable and civ certainly is that. Sid Meier is the kubric of the computerworld so many original concepts though he seems to have lost some of the magic touch as u do when u grow old. 1 battleship could destroy anything in this game its much easier then later civgames, good that I was so young when I played it so it was a challenge. Greatest game ever for megalomaniacs a 10++, it really was SUPER at its time.

This is surely one of the greatest strategy games ever made, and the Amiga conversion was spot on. The scope and depth of the game was unsurpassed, and the large number of facets to it meant for a varied experience. There were one or two holes in the AI, and it was a little slow from floppies (especially with the animations and cutscenes switched on), so Civ 2's probably a better bet (on a fast Amiga you can use a Mac emulator to play the Mac version at a good speed), but this is a classic of its time.

On my mac se30 in black & white, on my Amiga 500 (in colour but slower), on emulation, in its 3 in carnation...it remains the ultimate strategy.. Build your land, conquest worlds.. The deep sense of pride if you have reached victory...

This must be one of the best games ever made! Why? First of all the immense size of this game. There is so much in it! You'll start at the stoneage with one unit and you’ll advance through time. Build cities and extract food and building materials from the surrounding land. It's very critical where you place your cities because every peace of land has it's own advantages and disadvantages. You have to feed your people and you can build units. Units of war, diplomacy, trade, construction etc. The units you can build will become more advanced the more advanced your society is. So you have to invent scientifical breakthroughs too. An extra feature of this game which is brilliant is that every city is a world of its own, which needs to be built up. Every building in your city has a function. Every city has a certain population with their own needs. So you really have to put effort in keeping everybody happy or else they will revolt and when things really get messy they even revert to the enemy! There are also other populations with whom you can trade, go to war with or work together with, and each has its own features. Some are violent and others are good traders, etc. The sheer number of units you can built is enormous! And with so much in this game, everything is so perfectly balanced! If you are a fan of strategy games and you have never played this, be ashamed! Get it and play it!
Graphics: 6/10
Sound: 6/10
Playability: 10/10
Overall: 10/10

Probably one of the few games that truly deserves a perfect 10! This, and it's sequels, are the best games I've ever played, and still do. I can't think of anything wrong with this so if you don't like it, there's got to be something wrong with you.. Heh..
