Quite a nifty little game that I only discovered through emulation. It's a sort of underwater Cybernoid with nice graphics and a fine parallax scrolling. The SFX are good though used sparsely and the in-game has no music. Nevertheless, in what really counts (playability), Aquanaut excels and, because of that, it's probably one of the best Public Domain games made for our beloved Amiga. Interestingly enough, I think that the lack of inertia helps the gameplay instead of crippling it. Over a quick glance, the game appears to be quite simple but under the apparently uncomplicated gameplay lies a very good level design, some quite interesting mission-oriented levels and even the formulaic end-of-level bosses are fun to overcome. Overall, this is quite a good little game.

That parallax is lovely.. If Ocean would had worked a design like this one in Addams Family..
Game is a bit repetitive, but if the author would been able to develope this some years before.. Surely some good company would have helped with production duties.

This is a very good game. The more to its goodness is that the game is shareware. There are many commercial games which are total crap and they don't even compare with Aquanaut. Neat graphics, excellent handling, nice atmosphere.

Indeed, this is the way the 8 bit conversions from C64 should have been done...
it has a great 8 bit gameplay feeling, with very good Amiga enhanced graphics and even 2 layer of scrolling.
Cybernoid on the Amiga should have be done like this...

I liked this game, looks very close to the best games from Hewson's golden era, although it has nothing to do with it. In principle this game is the underwater Cybernoid. I like the nice graphics, well developed water physics as well as the main submarine sprite.

Based on the C64 game 'Shark'. See the developers website for more info and download of the game [www]
