Things i liked about Darmere -: Good graphics, eerie, atmospheric music and sfx. Decent puzzles and good sized quest.
Things i didnt like about Darkmere -: Horrendous and painful disk accessing on a 1mb Amiga, horrible slowdown on the inventory screen, too many useless items and info, unexciting combat and no background sound on the final level.
Having said that overall i'd give it a healthy 7/10

Advantages: very detailed graphics, interesting story, good music. Disadvantages: too little sound effects (the last level is almost soundless), too much useless items, menu slowdowns when many items are in inventory, few pointless tasks included only to make gameplay longer. Overall good game but it could be better.

Such a wonderful game deserves a video review.
So I made one: [www]

What a great game! In my opinion this is one of the best games on the Amiga. Great graphics, atmospheric sound, nice story and a lot to explore.
Nowadays I need a walkthrough but back then I mapped everything myself. Great times!

Oh, and by the way...
Have you noticed that you can find allusions on Tolkien's works in the game?
For example, if my memory is correct, in the house 9 East Road you can find a book titled: "Hobbit - The way there and back again"
Find the solution manual to complete Darkmere and check all possible houses you can find key to (mainly the East Road - 6, i think and 9) in the first level - the village.

Actually, I have chosen my nick from Gildorn, father of main character Ebryn, long before I have registered here.
Does there exist an RPG Amiga game with same or better atmosphere than Darkmere? I would say: "hardly"!
Brilliant environment resembling the most classic fantasy environment of J.R.R.Tolkien's works. I have read possibly all Tolkien's works from Silmarillion through Hobbit to all Lord of the Rings'. And I must say that Core design should have also given Tolkien's name to credits.
Any fan of classic fantasy - this is must-have for you.

Totally mindblowing game. Huge exploration area, excellent, very atmospheric graphics. The game has unbelievable addictivity factor which is risen by the story and the plot. After some time the player has a feeling of living inside the game, being Ebryn. This is the example how the games should look like. Of course nothing is flawless. There could be more music and sound could be more ear-pleasing as well. Cluttered inventory also makes the game go-slow.

Very good game, great atmosphere with great graphics. A game that the player needs to investigate all that is on its way, and draw conclusions on how to solve the problems. A game very detailed. The battle system I do not like too much, besides that, great.
Graphics: 10
Gameplay: 9
Sound: 8
Addictive: 9

Lots of exploration. I felt parts of the interface were a bit cumbersome and deterred me from getting very far in the game. Well...that's my excuse and it sounded good, eh? Seriously, this was a graphic pleasure to watch as you're playing. It looked great! Had a certain mood about it that really had me wanting to get much further than I did. I'll definitely restart playing this via emulator (I still have my original in good shape but emu might be just as good).
9/10

Coolest game! Graphics are so good - I can play it forever! Mark Jones is god! The story is interesting. One of the best adventure games on Amiga in my opinion.

It's hard to get into but very rewarding when you do. Great atmosphere, an intriguing plot even now and well above average sound and music that fits right with the brooding design. The game goes a little overboard with item collecting and saving can be a pain but it's still fun.

Probably my preferred adventure/action game of all times on any system. The atmosphere is fantastic. Graphics are pretty good and ambient sound are perfect. A very classic storyline but it's not a problem at all. 9/10

A phenomenal game. I absolutely loved every minute of it. The game was so absorbing that I remember in the city level how I actually felt warmer when I went into one of the many houses you could get in and not wanting to go back out into the streets.
I got as far as the caves but never managed to finish it. After reading this though, I think it will be the first thing I do when I get in tonight.

A game that is a bit underestimated imo-atmosphere in this game is so great that you really believe that you`re there!! The beginning of the game when you enter the town and hear the wind whistling is absolutely marvellous, and when you start playing the game you discover a great and intriguing world to explore.
I adore this game - a MUST HAVE !! 9.5/10

Despite it (= the code) got stuck while I was getting out of the forest - leaving me with no useful savegame - this game is so wonderful that I cannot but give it a full 10. I never had time to play it again, but some day I will and again I will joyfully inspect each and every single pixel of its marvellous world!

Not bad! Good graphics, not Cadaver standard but very fine. My problem with this and Cadaver was just the frustratingly high difficulty level (yeah, yeah - I'm a "no instant deaths, possible to complete with not too much stress" type of player, I know).

One of the underrated and nearly abandoned games. I remember hours of playing and working out "what´s goin on" in this. Superb Cadaver-style graphic and very high difficulty!
