A real time 3D environment with some nice graphics and atmosphere. The game can only really be enjoyed with a map and walkthu, as the missions in the game are too vague. This would be a classic if it wasnt for the constant grinding to make any progress, and having the manual handy to understand the spells is essential. Something very addictive about this game.

I consider Drakkhen one of the best RPGs on the Amiga: unique engine, monster design, artwork, story, fighting system.
The overworld is rendered in a mixture of vector 3D and zoomed 2D sprites, while locations are rendered in 2D. Especially the 2D artwork sometimes looks a bit rough and pixelized, but it has its own style. In the 90s France still had outfits producing triple A games with own character.
The gameplay sometimes feels a bit unfocused, but this is actually an asset: Drakkhen is game which doesn't take you by the hand, instead you have to go out, explore and make the story work.
There is a sequel to Drakkhen called "Dragon View", released in 1994 and only available for Super NES. Dragon View has a an engine very similar to Drakkhen, it takes the concept of this original 3D/2D mix and just runs with it. I recommend it very highly if you liked Drakkhen, as it improves on all aspects of the game.

Technically good game. Part first person part third person with both 3d and 2d enviroments. Not much of a story, so few NPC's, extremely uninteresting battles in which you easily loose control of your team. There are better games to be played out there on the amiga. So its a 5/10.

I thought the world of this game at one time--unfortunately, there were a couple of bugs. So while I could get somewhere past the 'sun-on-the-pyramid steps', and beyond a couple of times--that's as far as I could get because the game would 'loop' back to another place. I'd still like to play it in emulation someday just to see if WinUAE would avoid that (also has some animation slow-downs.)
I rated this game "Good".

Hmmn this one was a bit different. The scrolling 3d outside areas were smooth and fast (on my A3000 anyways, still need to try on my A1000). The combat is a little more difficult to figure out. Overall nice graphics and animation, but still trying to figure out the battle sequences tho. I also like the little pewter figure that came in the box. I got a dwarf warrior, did every1 else get the same one or were they just random on what you got? 8/10

I couldn't make any headway in the game, but I kept coming back for more because it was too beautiful to give up. The sky and light changing as day turned to night, the constellations... The visuals and environment were just stunning.
Eventually I gave up though.

It was more than a RPG...
Great graphics and music theme (notice the Vangelis'song "12 o clock" in edit characters mode )

I'm holding off on my vote simply because way back when I bought this game I recall never being able to figure out how to win a single battle. I had the manual and 3 friends by my side and no matter what we did we died and we never found a single thing to do in the woods. We were very disappointed in playability but graphics were top notch.

This was and is a highly entertaining action-RPG with excellent graphics (especially the the outdoor, *multidirectional 3D* and *monsters*!) and awesome sound. With a good plot and many entertaining puzzles, Drakkhen makes welcome change to the stock-standard dungeon crawler games.

I used to play this a lot! I even did a walktrough for it which I sadly never sent anywhere to be published. An entertaining action-RPG with delightfully French frosting. Artistic graphics, fast-moving 3D realm and atmospheric Charles Callet soundtrack. In my books this is a sure cult classic.
