Don't let the tiny sprites and minimalistic graphic design deceive you: although Exile does not look flashy, this is one of the best Metroidvania-style games in existence! Physics-based 2D engine, very complex puzzles that make you think, action… Exile has it all! There are very few games like this.
Just like Elite or Starglider II, Exile came together with an accompanying novella.

Well I dunno. I'm just not warming up with this I think very british genre of plattform & puzzle, no wonder this subgenres origins seems to be on the speccy with games like the Wally Week series. It always comes with many seemingly indestructable enemies which you can only avoid at first, so it's more a matter of finding the right way through the gazillions of screens; in this case at least it's one undivided scrolling environment. I like such platform games more in the way of Prince of Persia or Mario clones.

Epic! The next game able to create as much tension in me while playing was DooM on the PC almost a decade later. Exile is still one of my all-time favs.

Yes you're right Lazarou - graphics are detailed but a bit small, but the sound and more importantly the gameplay are just superb. Absorbing stuff indeed! 9/10/

Forget the graphics. They may be spartan, but do their job well enough. Instead sit back and enjoy one of the most expansive, immersive and just plain wonderful games on this or any system. A true masterpiece.

This would have been a real stunner with proper Amiga quality graphics... Shame...

I really didn't "understand" this game. It was fun enough to float around and do stuff, but there wasn't really any goal to playing that i could find. The fact that i was lacking a manual probably didn't help either.

Simply put : a great game and a must-play. A truly unique idea and execution to the game and the controls are really good. The feeling of being completely lost is really well translated. Classic stuff!

The Sega genesis exile is an RPG and this looks like a completly different game, so the only resemblence seems to be is they sahre the same name, so why is a genesis link on the bottom of this article?

I must admit I preferred the C64 version but only coz that was the one I played first! The exploration in this game was immense! I remember playing for hours on end and feeling belittled by the entirety of it. Loved the feeling of inertia too.

Truly a gem of a game! Please read my review, and ofcourse the mood-setting novella: [www]
For more information about Exile and the demo (which is a small game in its own right and highly recommended playing) check out this excellent tribute site: [www]
A classic many people didn't know of. Play it now!

Oh, what a mindblowing game, this was!! Vast playing area, countless challenging puzzles and DEEP atmosphere! And just the feeling of exploring the depths of a foreign planet. All those things plus the sound, makes you not wanting to leave the game - you're sucked right into it.
Could be nice with a 3D version of this game, although that would be next to impossible, if it should be true to the original game and it's atmosphere. Full 3D in all directions, with the same gigantic playing area. I'd like to see someone try..
Me and a friend of mine fiddled with this game, with the Action Replay III freeze cartridge, and found a way to spawn ANY object ANYWHERE in the game. We started making a list, but never finished it. And now there is no point in doing it. Actually, it was only my friend who discovered this, not me.. He was a wizard with that cartridge! Anyway, GREAT game. Feel like playing it again now. Maybe I should. No wait, I don't have it anymore..
