Playing the coin-op version of Ghosts 'n Goblins has never been a very pleasant experience to me but I recognize that it is a very solid arcade action game that can be rewarding once mastered. This applies to the Amiga version as well. It's not arcade perfect (it has worse controls and frame rate) but retains very much of the original graphics, sounds and gameplay. We have seen worse conversion (6/10).

I find it unbelievable that after all these years no one has mentioned the Amiga version has one key component of the original arcade machine mechanics missing... Arthur can not fire backwards while jumping forwards in mid-air like he can in the arcade version!
So much for people knowing their Ghosts'N Goblins.
Credit where credit is due of course as it's a great effort overall and was for it's time, it's just annoying you have to land before you can turn and fire backwards if you jump forwards which can result in frustrating deaths at times. I guess you could say they gave us extra starting lives to make up for it but I'd rather it was 3 like most of the money grabbing arcade machines were as I like a challenge, ha!

Level 2 is just awful on this game , they didnt think it through properly i guess!

I love all sir arthur's adventures! Well done this one in Amiga, it has some little problems (stuck in ladders or missing bonus effects) but still very enjoyable as the arcade. I prefer the unique music of the c64 althought this one is great too.

A legendary coin op that wasn't ST ported (strange?).
The graphics and sound are almost arcade perfect!

I used to love this game years ago, I played it all the time. I tried it again recently and I'd forgotten how hard it is! It doesn't quite stand the test of time but its ok for a quick game every now and then.

The scrolling is smooth, there are much jerkier games, you voted high. And the game has its own lovely 80s style, unique! But Dan Locke is a noob.
Nice interlaced title screen!
Bad thing is, you have only one life and sound effects are missing (f.e. Picking up the coins), music is bland also... Gfx are kinda original arcade...
The one life issue also lacks of the "where am I?" scrolling cutscene
Game could have been better with more lives/trainer version. And support for two-button joysticks or keyboard controls. 6/10

Arrived with ages of delay, Ghosts 'n' Goblins isn't a perfect conversion (the scroll is awful and makes the gameplay difficult at times), but still there wasn't too much to complain about when it was released on Amiga. Especially after you played that horrendous piece of crap known as the Ghouls 'n' Ghosts conversion...

Eww, this game is intensely ugly. I can't stand its gameplay type, so I won't comment on the design quality, but the people who talk about how it's a "perfect" arcade conversion with "great" graphics must be blindfolded. The colors are all wrong (the shading is even worse than the original arcade version's), and the scrolling is jerky and flickery (and completely unforgiveable inside the castle).
The Amiga could have had a much better version than this.

An almost perfect conversion.
Of course the legendary difficulty is also present...

Another rather good arcade conversion which proved once again that Tiertex, go! (another label of US gold) and co. Were nothing but a bunch of incompetent clowns.

I had this version on the amiga, i was young and it did not compare to some of the other games i had, (Graphics!), But, the gameplay was stunning, so hard........This game gave me flat thumbs!!!

I had the C64 version bought at Toys R Us soooo many years ago. Put a few hours on that one. I can't for the life of me remember if I upgraded it to the Amiga version or not. Seems likely. I know I played it years ago on MAME on the PC. Still a really fun game. The arcade version must be the best. But I'm game to try the C64 and Amiga versions since so many are saying C64 is better. Intriguing.

What a game ! Everything from the creepy soundtrack to the variety of characters is amazing in this well-crafted coin'op conversion.
Not a platformer in the Mario sense, but instead focuses on shooting numerous waves of ennemies which jump, fly, breath fire, throw spears (and so on, that list IS long
Easier than the arcade version, and believe me you'll thank Elite for that
I didn't notice the powerups that have you regain your armor after you've been hit... An omission ?

The c64 cannot compare to the amiga version since this one is the exact
replica of the coin op. And the c64 version is cutted (hate that !)

A good conversion, but I always found the C64-version more playable.

Almost perfect conversion!

Since I started playing this game, I noticed that the conversion was close to the Arcade original. I noticed that it wasn't that close when I felt like something was missing. Also glad that the Amiga conversion was more complete while the game stops halfway in the C64 Conversion.

A fun but limited conversion, check out the C64 one instead.... 68/100 For Mine...

It's a close conversion, with good GFX, SFX and playability.
It has not a good scrolling, but however it's a fun game.

This was a really close conversion. Although I hardly played it due to it not working becaude of fastmem and 2.0 roms. Still, it looked and played well.

Good conversion, fun platform game

The C64 version is heaps better, but still good version on the Amiga, with different tunes and sound FX.

I quite liked this game and still play it from time to time, it had decent GFX and sound, a coin op conversion not to be sniffed at really

This was like getting the arcade in your room. It's a really good looking conversion. And that was quite something back then. This game means a lot to me, and the Amiga has a top class version.

I'm not agree with guys telling Elite was disaster.
Its 1MB conversion of ever-greens like COMMANDO, SPACE HARRIER, GHOSTS 'N GOBLINS or also the very good Amiga version of BUGGY BOY are excellent pieces of software and high quality games. They were among the reason why I've upgraded the memory of my old Amy500 (and WINGS of course!)
In particular I think Elite' s Amiga version of the classic game "par excellance" aka Ghosts ' n goblins is one of the BEST ever made for an home computer system

Not exactly an arcade-perfect conversion, but a good effort nonetheless, especially since it came from the often-disastrous Elite. Maybe the C64 version was better, as many people say, but I guess it was just a matter of feeling.

One of the most recognisable platformers around, not as good as the C64 version in my opinion but still a great game and one of the most definate must haves for any retro collector. I have spent many winters nights playing this on an old black and white TV fantastic

I hated the arcade game, so to me, this being a near-perfect conversion was a weakness and not a strength. I know a lot of people loved Ghosts 'n' Goblins... But I'm not one of those people. To each his own and all that. 4/10.
