It's OK...but they ruined the sound.
It might sound trivial, but them tinkly tunes and spot effects on the 128k Speccy really gave the game charm.

One of the best all time games ever!! I have played so many versions of this game over the last few decades and it still holds up very well. But yes once again seems like a lazy ST port

They removed the jingles when you change room. But otherwise it plays just as well as the c64 version.
But leaving out those game defining jingles. Man, hard to swallow. 6/10

Awesome game! Never finished it - YET! Having another go 20 years later and loving it

This the kind of game you always have time for.
I agree with everybody, it's cool and fun on amiga but quite warmer on 8 Bits (the amstrad one is my favorite).
It's my first game ever, you never forget those kind of ones!

'Head Over Heels' is a superb game on any platform - I remember the CPC version very fondly. As much as I like the Amiga version, it's a lazy port of the ST version (they're identical in looks) - I still play the Amiga version the most, but I was so dissapointed that the little jingles between rooms were gone

Very good game but as far as I can remember the 8-BIT versions were superior.

I've recently played this on my Amiga. Anyone there recalls this game on C64? [www] .I liked it very much and I find it quite similar in some ways. All my respect. Above average 3D isometric game.

This is a great game both for C64 an Amiga, that's why I tried its retro remake for pc, years later. But I was dissapointed cos remake was worthless.

This was a cracking game... On the C64 but the Amiga's looked so similar! The playabilty was still there but I would play the 64's before playing this one. Have to agree the PC remake is the way it should have been.

It's 'Head over Heels' and is therefore incapable of being bad but this is still a lazy port from the 8-bit machines barely taking any sort of advantage of the Amiga's graphic or sound abilities.
See the Retrospec PC remake for how this should have been updated.

This is basically the CPC version with more colourful graphics. Problem is, the sexiness of the original Speccy version is kinda washed out in this version for a couple of reasons. The colorization is not as good as it could have been (the CPC version looked actually pretty much horrible compared to the brilliant monochrome artwork on the Speccy) *and* the sound is just mediocre (again, the neat and non-intrusive chiptune melodies of the Speccy were replaced with silly tunes and bad sound effects). What does remain of the original? Well, the most important part: the gameplay, which truly shines. Still, if you want the perfect experience, give a try to the Spectrum version -- as I wasn't too keen on the Retrospec remake.

The game is still as good as it ever was, but why would you convert it to a stronger platform and not improve the graphics more? A bit disapointing.

If you want this game in its original charming form, get the Spectrum version. If you want it with modern features like a menu and save-game option, get the RetroSpec remake. While it was a lovely addition to the Amiga at the time, and one of the last bedroom-coded hits, it's a white elephant in a wider historical sense, although I've still given it 8 because, in isolation, it's tremendous.

The major spoiler of this game is the slow speed - I had been looking forward to trying the Amiga version and it seems a lot slower than the 8-bit versions! In fact there is no improvement on the Graphics as well. If you can put up with the slowness, then HOH is worth playing as there aren't many isometric games on the 'miggy.

A perfect game? Well, is this

Out of all the isometric-viewed Spectrum classics, this is perhaps the geeatest, with the interaction between the two characters having a charm all of its own. The Amiga conversion was fairly functional, achieved by one man hacking out the Amstrad version (basically the Spectrum one with colour graphics) and recreating it for the 68000 processor, but it doesn't matter. Graphics aren't an issue, this is a brilliantly-designed and classic game.

I used to love it on C64, so I wanted to buy it for my A600. But there was a version, that worked only on A500. One year later was finally A500+ and A600 version released (by Hit Squad), so I bought it immediatelly. The game is nearly the same as the one on C64, only difference is the sound and graphic is a little more colourful. I enjoyed playing, altough I never completed it. I must agree, that the PC-remake mentioned bellow is absoultely perfect and probably is better than Amiga and C64 version together.

Excellent port, captured the 8bit feel perfectly whilst updating the graphics just right.

Cost me about £2 on Hit Squad release. It make look and play like a Spectrum game (which it originally was) but it a cracking game.
Check out the PC remake, possibly the best remake ever.
