Beat'em up without any gameplay. The moves are limited, animation frames are in scarce. The fights occur on a single screen what makes the feeling of being squashed without any possibility to plan your moves. Wasted effort with nothing that will atract you for longer than 15 minutes. CD32 version is exactly the same as AGA version but Earok made some unofficial release in 2015 adding shadows and animated intro from PC version.

I remember the adverts for this game when I was at school. Could not wait for it to come out, don't know why I bothered. Only worth having for the intro. Such a huge let down, especially when could have been a star on CD32 format.

Everyone seem to hate it, but at least I was glad to beat a beat'em'up game with a single jump kick!!

This is so bad I hesitate to call it a game. Of course, the rendered cutscenes and the ingame graphics may look nice, but the fighting engine itself isn't there. You spend fifteen minutes doing the same high kick, and then you've completed the whole game. Everyone who paid for this got ripped off.

I’m always amazed at how negative some people are about this game; I guess its due to high expectations because of the hype prior to its release. Playability wise it's quite good although it can be a little unresponsive occasionally on the CD32 & some opponents are very simple to dispatch in the first round. The fact that player 1 can only play as the cyborg is a bit of a let down. The visuals however are excellent. Compared to Dangerous Streets, Rise is brilliant - now that game really is dire!

One of the WORST games ever - on any platform. Complete and utter bilge.

"A revolution in combat games."
"Unique combat intelligence system that adapts to and learns your style of play."
"The first game with film quality, controllable 3-d graphics."
"Robot attack routines choreographed by a martial arts expert."
"Witness the first ever morphing character to appear in a computer game."
"Awesome cinematic link sequences."
"including music by Brian May."
Right on the money.

If you would like to see a worst fighting game then check "barravento". Its even worse than this one. 1/10

I had this on my xmas list that year and I guess Santa had stacks and stacks in the warehouse up at the friggin North Pole because I actually got one. Man! What a disappointment! I forced myself to play it quite a few times though and eventually I even had some fun with it. Certainly one of the all time disappointments on Amiga CD32. I could've gotten anything else! I also got Beneath a Steel Sky CD32 that year which was a great game I didn't play nearly enough. I regret that more than I regret getting ROTR.
3/10

No wonder it was given away free with some CD32s!

Yes, really crap.
But the second part resurrection on PC was not so bad. A simple fighting game, but with many robots and good action. I liked Rise 2.

By the way, belive or not... The sequel, Rise 2: Resurrection (released atleast on PlayStation) was even worse... It makes this prequel looking actually quite good.

I remember, Amiga joker (ger) has rated it very high - it was my last original game. Spent over 80 DM ~40 € on this crap
That game has no playability. You can't jump over your opponent, there is only one character you can choose..
Only the graphics are great

Unbelievable graphics for its time, shitty playability for all time

Those who developed this piece of crap are probably still hiding somewhere, feeling utterly ashamed. And they should be.

A severe piece of crap thats less playable than nearly every other fighting game...on any format. Drab, dull rendered graphics (which surprisingly were its key selling point) and huge gameplay flaws that make this just a total insult to the gamesplaying public

Magazines were offered 2 ways of reviewing this - either by playing it for a couple of hours in Mirage's offices, or waiting to buy it for yourself. No wonder the good reviews came out first....

Hahahahahaha! It's 'Rise of the Robots'! This dreadful, badly-programmed, perfectly-good-disk/CD/cartridge wasting load of old poo doesn't deserve any sort of in-depth review.

Nice graphics.. That's about it.

Oh Dear....how on earth did this get 90% from CD32 Gamer

How could a "fighting" game be this bad? Erase from brain, erase from brain, must forget!

Pure evil, straight from hell. 1/10..

I only played PC version but I believe the game is just as abysmal on Amiga. What were they thinking? That flashy graphics will make up for non-existent gameplay? Not that graphics are so stellar anyway. Stiff and lifeless. Then again, what else can you expect from badly-designed robots?

Here I am again.....to tell you it is CRAP....for real.

Legendary. Crap.

What a crap. It's sad really. So much effort has been put to graphics but absolutely everything else sucks BIG time. I still don't get it why CD32 version didn't had the longer animation scenes which ECS version had!

Excellant game.
Whilst the graphics might not be too good it's the playability of this game that wins it over. One of the best 2 player beat 'em ups on any platform ever.
This game should have been hyped more before its release as nobody knew it was coming and it's widely regarded as the best game that nobody know about.

Dreadful, what more can be said. Wasn't this the game that split up the bitmap bros too?

This game was as hyped up as a 20 year long crack addict. One look and it was clear how horrible it really was..

Now that is one crappy game.
It's shit, dirt, poo, crap and it sucks.
Oh...And it had music from Brian May on it (I think)

Virtually no sound, win all fights with one move, can't jump over opponents, you have to play as one particular character..... Rubbish. There's more venom online about this than almost any other game, and quite rightly so.
