As it happened with the 1st episode, Zool 2 on CD32 is still the same game yet has very welcome enhancements (7/10).

I like Zool but this is just very average, and it has some bad points. Like twice I get to the end of the level with only 90% complete, so I had to intentionally hang around and milk the last few creatures to get the 99% needed to get through the checkpoint. The controls are finiky, jarring, too loose, and often the spin blade will not break the eggs in the egg cups even on command. The constant swinging left and right on rock columns to avoid spiky blobs gets old quickly, and often the player will slow down to a crawl when only one health bar remains until they can find some more. Wading into the action all-guns-blazing like zool is now a foolhardy approach, and with a stupidly long timer the levels must be effectly sneaked around to stand any chance of progress. The enemys can often shot you from off screen but you cant return the favour, and often get hit by default. Even the hidden rooms are boring; not like the 'GamesMaster' secret in Zool. Well, it was not the worst game ever. The game is playable and has no serious bugs, but the zany atmosphere of Zool is missing from this. 5/10

I played this again after 3 or 4 months and my mind hasn't changed: for me this is a 10/10. I liked the background very much in Zool II, AGA version, and I like the background in this cd32 version as well--though both are really good, they're quite different. Likewise, the gameplay in Zool I (the first version) is fine--but the backgrounds are not as sophisticated/enjoyable as they are in either the AGA, or cd 32 versions. If I had my druthers, I'd play this one, or the AGA disk version. The controls are different here, but they're responsive--it just takes a little getting used to.
As another commentator once wisely stated, "Chupa Chups!"

Top marks for this, all things that made the original a bit of a chore have been seen to.
Firstly controls: The jump function has been moved to a button - hallelujah! This makes timing your jumps and your control when jumping much improved. Also the spinning jump is no longer pressing down and fire in the air, you simply press the jump and fire buttons together to perform it. This moves saves your arse on more than one occassion so its handy to have it so easy to do on the CD32.
Graphically the game has had a nice slap up, never played the AGA version however the graphics from the screenshots look similar and the colours seem better composed on the CD32. The backgrounds are now nice to look at and are not just gradients of a single colour.
Audio has taken a major improvement. In the original (And AGA I believe) you chose either Music or Sound Effects. In the CD32 version you can have both. While this may not sound like much, it actually makes the game much more enjoyable. The music is great but on its own can become monotonous, and sound effects alone leave no atmosphere. As well as this the music has taken an update though I prefer the original Tooting Common and Mount Ices tracks.
Finally extras, this game loves them. You have 3D animated movies (They're alright I guess), 4 playable demos (Great short-burst fun) and a great new level!
Overall a 10/10 for this version, the original A500 version would be around an 8. The little extras make a huge difference.

The little extra touches on this CD32 version are really nice. The game isn't too different from the floppy versions, and I definitely think it is a lot better than it's prequel. Don't get me wrong - I didn't dislike the prequel as such, but in Zool 2 the graphics (especially the sprites) were more pleasing, the use of sound and music was rewarding, and the gameplay was much more manageable. It's great that the creators really took the time to fix the flaws that the original game had and greatly improved the sequel.

Better than it's prequel but this also suffers from slowdowns when there are too much candies and stuff moving around on the screen. Not because it's that notable but still a bit annoying
Oh, and the backgrounds doesn´t look like a total mess like they did in the previous game (AGA ver.)

I found myself that I needed to adjust or get used to Zool's different approach. I did not like it at the beginning. Especially the ECS version seemed to me a bit empty. AGA version fulfilled the emptiness. Although the game is still a platformer it gives you a lot of fun. The game itself is maybe not one of the hardest task to finish (without any particular difficulties you are able to finish it on the HARD level) but it gives you a lot of fun. Huge scenery objects, a lot of action, different routes to finish the level (depending on the character you choose). Although the Superfrog is unbeatable number 1 for me, Zool 2 does not lose the distance much. Nice touch is the additional world which has been included into the CD32 version.

This is a great platform in my opinion, and very good also thecnically, it don't seem to me a clone of sonic, it remember me the same atmosphere of a C64 classic, Think on a Spring... Don't know why, pheraphs the colors.
10/10

I thought Zool 2 was an improvement over its direct precedessor. It was similar in style and almost identical in gameplay. The levels were better laid out and the balance curve didn't hit you right on the kisser in the first few minutes. One of the better games in my CD32 collection. I still gave up on my playthrough when things got difficult during the later levels.

Nice platformer, but lacking the slick look and feel of the original.
