Zool CD32 is a very good game with fantastic backgrounds and new CD music. This version benefits from the CD32 pad too which helped me out a lot. Any problems I have with this are due to me jumping and running too much. I find slowing it down saves me from some unfair deaths and lets me appreciate that new background on level one especially. A very good upgrade from floppy version and shows what CD32 could do. (7/10)

You can immediatly see that this AGA version of Zool is just an express order from Commodore that suffers of lack of time (or will) by Gremlin's developers. It is not really AGA as it re-use ECS GFX, just adding an awful scrolling wallpaper, making the game unreadable. Zool needed a complete reworking using AGA chipset as it has been the case on SNES and Megadrive but here Gremlin just complete a poor picture. New levels are a good surprise but don't save it from the shipwreck. This game isn't a miracle so if you still want to play it, just play the ECS version.

Zool's gameplay really gains a lot from the proper use of the CD32 pad (fire to jump, finally!) and it's also nice to be able to hear music and sound effects together thanks to the CD technology. Graphical tweaks are decent too. This version of Zool is very nice (7/10).

Those backgrounds are both a wonderful addition and a horrible distraction; especially when there's lots of action going on and things are flying everywhere.

AGA version is slower and has smaller screen than OCS/ECS version .Besides on AGA version the background creates much confusion with the gameplay although it is more cute.I prefer the OCS/ECS version.

I wasn't around when Zool was apparently hyped as the next big thing by game journalists. Having played it for the first time with no expectations, I can say I felt this is a thoroughly mediocre platformer. I'd even say it was slightly below average in all departments at the time of its release.

Fun and fast with much action, not a bad game overall. It's a shame about the lack of sound in this particular version, and other than that I'd say it's as good as the floppy disk version.

Difficult, though. Someday, I hope that I'll be able to see past the first stage of world two.

Sub-mediocre console-wannabe platformer with garish, distracting backgrounds.

Good platformer though I enjoyed the sequel more (in which the Zool sprite looked far better). Loved the rock music track on this and its one thing that actually got me into using Protracker to make my own tunes. Anyways yeah good game, not up to levels of Superfrog, Ruff N'Tumble and so on but not terrible.

Good but this was not as great as the hype made out to be, 7/10 in my opinion

Not a bad platformer, this. But then again, not a good one either. Contrary to everyone else's musings, I think this one has a slicker look and feel to the sequel.

"I'm no friggin' ant", said Zool and pointed his sai at the player. "You might be right", said the player and continued: "You're cooler than Sonic and more good-looking than Mario (that's not hard, mind you) - but that's only supeficially". "What you're babbling about?", Zool replied with angry stare in his yellow eyes. "After all the hype, you're left only with a good platformer, not great or bad, just something in between", the player answered sincerely. Zool was seemingly hurt but then chipped: "Still, I got a sequel - with a girl in it. You probably don't have either. Ha ha!". Then he zoomed into the horizon, laughing.

Great Graphics, average sounds, Good but samey gameplay. Zool was the 'Sonic' for the Amiga, but like the hedgehog, the gameplay can get very repetiive. It would help if there was secret passages etc but its just left to right straightforward platform action.

Not bad but there are a lot better platformers out there!

Sound don“t exist in this version The only sound I heard was the intro dance beat in the beginning....

Sure, it was hyped before it was released.. As the ninja ant "Zool". The hype was better than the game really... It has nice graphics and sprites. In the game you going to see commercial for candy...Chupa Chups or something.

The sound in the game, especially the non AGA version and CD32 is horrible.. There is no sound. Only effects and it's boring I have to say. The game was maybe fun to play when you was little and jump around with zool.. I have to admit this But ok.. Call it a retrokick!

Why so many negative comments? This IS a great game. It's true that it was hyped a lot before it's release. Maybe that's why so many people hates it. Really beautiful on AGA machines and playability is just about right. Cool loading tunes too. Keep on Zooling! 9/10!

Not much positive to say about this one - any console fan seeing this after beign told it's the Amiga's best platform game would be in hysterics. So many better titles were ignored in favour of this bland, distant and cumbersome game.

I hate the fact that Zool got so much hype at the time. If we're honest, it doesn't comapre at all well to Mario or Sonic, let alone all the other great console platformers. Sticky controls, boring level designs, cluttered graphics on the AGA version, horrendous ST-esque music and sound effects, characteress sprites (especially Zool himself) and too many bits where you needed inside information to get through. Even Amiga Power, who usually saw through over-hyped games, gave this 90%. The second one is actually pretty good though.

This game disappointed me. I had JUST got my Amiga 1200 and I wanted a game that showed what the AGA chipset could do. Well, I went to the mall and asked the guy in the game store what games took advantage of the AGA...he hadn't a clue...so, I saw this one and thought I would give it a shot.

Not worth it.

Doesn't it make you feel sick looking at all those candies in the screenshots now ?

And it makes me even more sick remembering the magazine reviewers creaming their pants over this game.

It was good, but in no way was it excellent.
