I loved this game so much. I played it regularly with my sister in the 90s and still play it now with my son.

Another Special FX game where you had to turn the contrast up to max to see what the hell was going on. Mediocre.

Midnight Resistance has a palette bug making the visuals so dark that they need to be adjusted with screen controls and that spoils an otherwise effective (but far from pixel-perfect) graphic rendition. The passable audio department is affected by the impossibility of playing sound effects and music together. Controls, while in general well adjusted to the joystick, do not take advantage (not even optionally) of multiple buttons while they would sorely need it. However, behind all the flaws there is a good action game that deserves to be played especially now that whdload patches have fixed its color and control issues. It is safe to say that this game has been saved by the Amiga scene (6/10).

Great game, especially in the 2-Player mode. But the music was not that good on the amiga version. The sega arcade Soundtrack of this game is one of the most exciting computer-in-game music of all time!

Simply one of the best game on the amiga.

One of the best conversions even made, in some parts it's even better than the original coin-op! Great! Vote 7/10

Very playable game, although not exactly pushing the Amiga to its limits... 8/10

Very competent conversion. The music is absolutely awesome and the SFX are nice too, pity you can't have both simultaneously. The graphics seem a bit shadowy but were quite moody and interesting to look at, plus they had a close reminiscence with the arcade version. My only gripe with this game was the somewhat awkward controls, but I guess a compromise had to be found, because implementing the arcade control method on the Amiga was impossible. It will still deliver quite a kick, though, especially on a simultaneous two player run.

Amazing conversion ... Perhaps the best for Amiga. If you do not have a rotary joystick to play the arcade version, take this.

Really well-made port of the arcade classic. Plays well and good graphics.
Note: on WinUAE be sure to adjust "Brightness"/"Contrast"/"Gamma" in the "Display" tab to make it look like these screenshots.

I remember this one back when I use to play it. I don't think it has aged well, and well...actually playing it now it feels like an average game. Maybe the arcade game wasn't so popular.

I rather liked the dark/sepia color scheme--intentional for the style of this shooter. Ended up in 'trainer' mode, as I was getting killed a lot. I think this is a gamer's game--it's really easy to get knocked off. Lots to keep you busy.

I remember this one! "PICK A WEAPON" hehe! It was a cool game that was addictive. Looks dated now, but was the best thing ever at the time

I played this game often on amiga. Even now with winuae it's addictive.
but at a few situations it's a little bit unfair. For example the boss stage with the many planes. I always lose some lifes there. Without nitro or shower i would be helpless there. And the last boss is the easiest in the game, i think they could've made him harder.
Graphics: 9,5 (typical addictive Amiga-graphic)
Sound: 8
Gameplay: 9,5
Addictive: 10
overall: 9

I think this is probably the best all out brainless action platformer on the Amiga, the graphics are good, there's a great 2 player co-op, loads of set pieces, different weapons, it scrolls smoothly and generally plays well. I just wish that they'd chosen a control method more akin to the Speccy version (you can hold the fire button down to shoot and you don't jump) or even better the aforementioned mouse and keyboard Abuse style control. Other than the that the music could've been better but that's not really too much of an issue (would've been nice though)

Having played the original game in arcades before trying this conversion, I must say it does the job pretty well.
There are a few setbacks due to the fact that Special FX tried to mimic the rotational control method for the firing direction that was featured in the arcade game. The problem with this is that it falls short of immediacy: if you want to fire backwards, it's not enough to face in the opposite direction. You will also have to walk that way a bit, making your character very vulnerable until he's rotated his gun.
This is mostly evident in the crawling section on level 2, where death is almost inevitable if an enemy is following you from behind. Some rather coarse hit detection surely doesn't help.
If they really wanted to implement gun rotation, they could have used a mouse + joystick combination, as in Abuse or Walker. It wouldn't have worked in 2-player mode, but at least the problem would have been partially solved. Or a key to lock/unlock the firing direction, like Ikari Warriors had.
Graphics are okay if a bit lacking in detail, compared to both the arcade game and Amiga standards. Sound effects are quite faithful, so you may want to have those on instead of the rather annoying background tune. You even get a few speech samples from the original.
It could have been a great conversion, but the way it is it's "just" good. Too bad because the game itself is really enjoyable.

It's cool but impossible without unlimited lives. Nice weapons selection. 6/10 Haywire.

One of the best coin-op conversions for the Amiga (and C64 as well), in my opinion.

As ReTroViRuS pointed out, the arcade game was a direct rip-off of the Contra series (at the time I thought it was an official sequel). However, since the Contra series had miserable luck [www] on the Amiga, this conversion is more than welcome. Especially when it's done so well.
While the graphics and sound both suffer from ST-port syndrome, the gameplay itself survives intact, even allowing for the loss of the spinny-shooty controlly thingy that the arcade machine had. And in stark contrast with most coin-op conversions of the day, this one actually contained *all* of the levels, *all* of the weapons, and *all* of the end of level bosses of the original.
Not up there with Contra or Metal Slug, but the closest you'll get on the Amiga and great fun in its own right. 8/10.

Having played the C64 version I was hoping for something great when I first loaded this one but 2 bad for me it wasn't.. OK the visuals r far better than the "old" C64 but the controls r 2 lazy in this version and it spoiled the experience for me!Good but not gr8!

I bought this for about SEK 75 (around 7.50) a long time ago, I guess it was worth the money because I actually played it until the end. They shouldn't have used that tiresome flute as a main lead in all BGMs. Sounds really lame!

Pick a weapon....Weapon!
Couldn't say it was a favourite of mine on any dimension but we had some fun with it all the same. Graphics were kind of cartoonish but the music was great. Decent playability, 7/10 overall

The game is OK on Amiga though I prefer arcade version. I think keyboard controls would have been better than joystick. The original game had another controller for gun.

I loved this game, was a good arcade shoot em up, nice GFX & good selection of weapons to blast with. Decent but obviously there were better out & yet to come

This was a cracking conversion. I played it till the end and went back for more, I couldn't "resist!"

Midnight Resistance is a rip-off of the Contra series by Konami. Nevertheless, it is a good game in it's own right. The arcade was converted competently to the Amiga hardware. The sprites and backgrounds still look good. The controls feel precise and fluid. The difficulty is hard, but relatively fair.

Really nice game, can't wait to play this with a friend as the 2-player feature seems to be excellent.
