A nice drawn and animated game which is fun to pass some time on the surface. Unfortunately deaths can be super cheap with anti-air shells falling out of the sky without warning, unexpected strafing runs and tanks shooting you in the face. Needs a radar desperately but can't hold a candle to Desert Strike which came out the year before. I put it down partway through level 2.

I am so tired of the arbitrary charlimits and always having to try to find ways around them, that I give up. From now on, whenever there's a charlimit, I'll just use a link instead of writing 3 to 4 posts. Amazingly stupid to uphold charlimits in 2017..sheesh.

So here's my review of Apocalypse:

[www]

Good game, just not as good as Choplifter III on Super Famicom. And yes, I used real systems for playing all the games I mention in the review.

Superb graphics on this one and a good game, if very frustrating. Once the control and nature of the chopper was masterted there was some great shoot em up moments.

Good game.
Hard to get into - but persevere with it and it really opens up.

A great Choplifter style game on the Miggy!

I enjoyed this game a lot! Its a good arcade style game, with unique gfx that look kind of grainy, but kinda cool! Has its own style. Gameplay got hard very fast, but it did get me addicted!

"Patience" and "keep your nerves on the leash" - these two comes to my mind when I think of this game. It has great atmosphere, nice graphics but it lacks playability due to some unbelievably high difficulty level. There are only five stages in the game and you have to be extremely focused when playing. Each stage is huge challenge and brings totally different obstacles you need to deal with. At the beginning you fancy all the surprises which were prepared for you by the authors. They make you really feel like being out there, in the Vietnam or Korea sitting in the chopper's cockpit but in the long-term it becomes annoying and irritating when you have no idea who fired and what it was that took you down to the ground with the blast. The first stage is really a struggle due to the long range cannon which fires unexpectedly. The second one is rather much easier but still does not let the player really enjoy the game. Much effort (and time) was put into this game but I have a strange feeling that it was an overkill. It comes on three disks and apart from five levels (rather not long but extremely difficult), it contains no ingame menu, no options screen. I have seen more playable and interesting games which had more data squeezed on one or two disks than this title has on three. It could have been great game but it was pretty much spoiled.

We only had a demo but I spent a lot of time on it, just playing it again and again. I loved blowing up the houses, watching the cute little hostages run all over the place, pick 'em up, take 'em back, drop 'em off and head off out again with a stretcher to save the little dude that caught a stray bullet.

Good atmosphere, nice graphics and a neat intro could make this game great. If it wouldn't be THAT hard. It's way too hard. Missiles hit you without being able to see who actually fired. And trying to kill the little people on the ground often result in shooting the hostages.

I'm glad I found this, as I played Fort Apocalypse back in the C64 days. Nice game!

Only played the magazine demo (I think our Amiga died shortly afterwards) but thought this had loads of promise. Looked great, good atmosphere and sound playability.

Good GFX, SFX & playability. Could be better if the authors included password system/save game option or at least "continue ?" feature after game over.
Possibly the only Amiga game without options menu!

A lot of memories about this game... I got one disk demo in 1993 and was looking forward to the full version. But after releasing I discovered, that the game is hard like hell. So I rejected it and erased from my discs (pirate version, of course). After many years (could be 1998 ) I started to desire to play it again, but nobody already had it. Few months later I finally found it and started to play again... To find out, that the game is still really hard like hell.

I'm sorry, I don't vote objectively, I vote as to how I feel. I lliked this game, it was playable, and good to look at. The Amiga doing what it does best, highly playable games.
