Played this in 1990...my first multiplayer game. Raced against my cousins, two joysticks and one keyboard. Loved the level progression, the music playing on the loading screens, the night races and the pics of Rambo, Clint Eastwood and some bloke in a tux. There were shortcuts through fences. There was also a theme, about the destruction of the environment by mankind, resulting in an apocalypse. Has inspired me to prepare my own top down racing game.

There are no laps in Nitro. You race for one to two minutes along a single track and then it's on to the next track, provided you accumulated enough points to advance. The game consists of four worlds with eight tracks each, so 32 tracks in total. You'll only see the later tracks if you do well during the first races. There are no save options or passwords between races, which means you'll have to complete the whole game in a single run. Thankfully, it is a bit on the easy side.

Bought this game simply because I thought the art in the advert was brilliant. I loved top racers and this didn't disappoint. The intro was unbelievable, especially since I had just upgraded from a humble spectrum. Great memories of this.

Loved the whole atmosphere of the game, the art and music both great, really fun game.

Hot Rod clone that gives Super Cars (though without weapons here) a run for its money.
I love the character selection screen.

One of my favourite Amiga games ever. Great top-down racer with loads of depth. Great playability coupled with nice graphics and sound! You could choose Roger Moore, Clint Eastwood or Sylvester Stallone. LOL! Played this to death and still do so occasionally these days...

This was my favourite of the top-down racing games on Amiga, and probably still is. A little bit like micro machines with a Psygnosis touch. Very good graphics, nice ideas like the night races. Never managed to finish it, I always ran out of gas/money in the later outdoor (forrest) level.

Fairly good game. I remember having the box for this one, reminded me alittle of the Fighting Fantasy book cover for Freedom Fighters. I never did finish it back then, but lately I did. A fun game, just alittle short.

Overhead racing game from the same chap who later brought you ATR and some of the faults that spoil the latter crop up here too. In fairness, it's more fun and a lot more immediate but the second half of the game features some awful track designs where you practically have to guess the layout. Paradoxically it's too easy as well, and the graphics and sound are dull dull dull. For all its good points there are far too many daft bits that cancel them out. Shame.

Ok gfx, controls and the same great music track playing all the time. Best in multiplayer but also fun alone. This game has this special feeling that is hard to explain but makes you wanna return to play more.
9/10

One of my favourite multiplayers of all time. It was so much fun to play 3 vs computer back in the days. Graphics are mediocre but who cares, same for the sound but gameplay rocks!
9/10

This was a great game. By far my favourite top down racer on the Amiga - I managed to complete it in 1 player mode.
It's still playable today. Choose the turbo buggy and once you've got plenty of powerups you can race the tracks with ease!
Good stuff from Psygnosis. This classic deserves 10/10

This game simply rules! 10 of 10!

Amiga had a lot of great racers . Super cars , Skidmarks , Lotus ........
Nitro was one of the best of them . Great graphics and action made this game a masterpiece . Well , what did you expect from such a great software house like Psygnosis ?? Still very playable .9/10 .

I spent many hours of fun on this, though I never went past the third chapter (when you start not seeing the road anymore).
In-game it was technically polished but unimpressive. On the other hand, it had some nice eye-candy all around, like the Psygnosis trademark animated intro and the drivers modelled after Clint Eastwood, Sylvester Stallone and Roger Moore.
Also note that multiplayer is a real challenge! No split-screen on this: if a human-controlled car is left behind, it respawns at the bottom of the screen, so there is always a chance to overturn the outcome of each race.
A minor letdown was the lack of weapons. Given the availability of upgrades, the Mad Max-like post-apocalyptic setting and most notably the deceiving box art, I was expecting to be able to fit some. Good thing there is SuperCars 2 to save the day.

sooo much fun! I'm still playing it, and have kept notes about where there are shortcuts and hidden money

I love this game, it really is fabulous and I can't wait for a GBA/DS release with multiplayer wifi support
I played it to death years ago with my mates and I recently played it to completion on my a1200 and I just get taken back to a happy time without any cares.. The music is excellent, the GFX are perfect, the touches (Headlights at night) are great and really let this game stand out from the crowd
A 9/10 for now.. A 10/10 is looming as I feel like playing again

One of the best multiplayer racing games on the Amiga. As already pointed out by someone else, the first guy to comment here made a mistake: you have to enter "MAJ" as name to activate the cheat, "RICH" was the cheat for Super Cars.

This games shines in 3 player simultaneous mode. Great game! Don't even bother playing alone.

Could have been great, but on most of the courses you're often left guessing the route (even the non-night ones) while the computer opponents race away. Fun for a time, but too frustrating.

My mate Daniel and I played this like crazy! We had these drumming rituals to the loading music, and would always sing "En stor penisattrapp!" (Swedish for "A big fake penis" ) along with the bassline of the in-game music.
This is still a REALLY great racing game, and I truly hate the fact that it won't work on my 1200.

Awesome game with a really cool titletheme. I hated the night courses, tho. Only the floodlights of my own car and everything else was BLACK? Come one.

A very good little game and one I wasted hours playing. The only area that was a perhaps a bit foolish was the night races that by the "Apocolypse" section of the game were frankly a bit of a joke. Still a big thumbs up on balance.

Very nice racing game, quite similar to Hot Rod.

Nice little game coded by the same guy who later made All Terrain Racing for Team 17.

This was the daddy of top down racers imo, I must have spent serious hours playing this one, very very addictive, nice graphics and unforgettable music, love it to bits

This game was super fun to play. I remember playing this against my friend. I also remember him breaking 2 joysticks over this game.

Hehe aww what a game this was when it was out, and now a load of other racing games that came out afterwards copied the same idea. This game however at the time was OK, graphically OK and playability fine for me as I completed it

My second favourite racing game, along with the skidmarks games. Wonderful, addictive, fun and good looking.

A fine multiplayer favourite of mine. Used to play this in 3 player constantly with buddies during school lunch break.

Nice, playable racing game with upgradable cars (if you like that sort of thing). It even has a 3 player mode! Still, like Micro Machines having all players on the same screen is limiting, split screen racers like Jupiter's Masterdrive and Super Cars II are IMO more fun.

Nice Multiplayer Racing Game!

A true classic! Maybe the best top-view racing game, which I played so much with my friends! After many many tries we finished this game. So many nice features and graphically very good! Soundwise also good, with some nice music. Sometimes a little frustrating when you just hit something and your car gets rather uncontrolable. Apart from that, no flaws!
Graphics: 8/10
Sound: 7/10
Playability: 8/10
Overall: 8/10

One of the games that made me want to own my own Amiga. Played it for hours at friends house.. (not so fun as 1player though)

Used to think this was a cool game. Don't remember much of it, though. Havn't played it since it first came out.

A rare psygnosis game this one which concentrated on game play as opposed to graphics. And very good it was too!

Very nice game, excellent and cute graphics, great coding and nice music. The game is Atari ST port, but adjusted a lot - scrolls to all the directions (not only vertically), has ingame music etc. But also lacks 3rd party traffic and pedestrians. I recommend to play it in NTSC.
