So if I understand this right after playing through six levels, I choose a stage on the map, fight twice through respawning enemies to pick up some blue stars, then fight a boss, then repeat everything again? Is this fun?

An ST port where the screen is far too cluttered and bad colour schemes ruin any real gameplay. I just found this sore on the eye and far too clunky.

It is an amiga original and the megadrive version is the same.
From wikipedia: Onslaught is a video game that was released by Hewson in 1989 for the Amiga and subsequently ported to the Atari ST, PC and Sega Mega Drive.
Its not as bad as the review, but its not fantastic. 5/10

Zoomba:
Amiga port is a total failure?
Try more like Amiga original!
If the game ever ventured itself into Sega Megadrive, it certainly did years later of this release, and chances are that it has nothing to do with the original.
As for my appreciation of the game, I can say that I had some fun with the game. Although it seemed to me that it was downright chaos from the word go, and certainly became repetitive after a short while.

Nice concept but the Amiga port is a total failure
If you want to enjoy it (because it really worth it) you should play it on the Sega Genesis.

Another example of a Hewson basic 1989 game. One of my first Hewson game(after Zynaps;Steel;Slayer and Paradroid 90) Also this ones are awasome, but Onslaught reminds me the old times, when I play it. It's not a very basic game, but even sounds are nice

The music is composed by Future Freak (Christensen, Kim) and not by Jeroen Tel as the info box says. Music format used is Tel's and this may be the source of confusion.

My method of progress in this game was to bounce in the far top right hand corner whilst pounding the fire button. The indication this was a sound gameplay technique was that after several minutes, the screen would be awash with glittery explosions and pickups, which when activated, would fill any remaining screen pixels with knives. Barmy, in a word.

Weirdest game I have ever played and its bloody and fun to 10!

A bit pointless really, like a chocolate teapot. It just seems like very routine gameplay with above average Graphics and Sound.
Shame that Hewson released this game, considering their reputation of releasing games of quality.

A beautiful, atmospheric, moderately innovative, peculiar but ultimately near-unplayable mess. There seemed to be no point at all in this, and it was a real pity...

Very strange game, the colourful graphics attracted me but the platform action was really messy. The first time it felt like you'd been dropped in the middle of combat with a penknife - no tutoring first levels that take you by the hand here! True to its name.

This game isn't good in my opinion. Graphically okay, but much to messy, music of my idol Jeroen Tel isn't special (how's this possible?!) and the gameplay is just crap! Give this one a miss!

An early classic, later overshadowed by many other platformers (someone whispered "Gods" in my ear)
