OSCAR had a lot more importance on the Amiga scene. One of the first games of next generation, OSCAR used the expanded features of AGA systems. Lot of colors, parallax scrollings, numerous sprites on screen, fast scrolling, it was hypnotic for A500 players that begin to be cramped in the technical specifications of the first Amiga born in 1985. That was enough to occult gameplay and level design problems. When CD32 version has been announced with the only thing missing, a complete streamed soundtrack on CD, and that it will be offered with the console system at launch, all was here to make of OSCAR one of the most appealing games on Amiga scene. But there are bugs and design flaws, like this background that makes the game unreadable, and some mistakes in gameplay like this small freeze of the main character when it jumps or hits the ground that really make the gameplay abrupt.
The ECS version corrects the background problem but musics are still missing. However, I think the problem with retrogamers is that they don't know the right balance. Either a game is a legend, or it's a shit. That's all. But hundreds of games have been published which are not unforgettable but with which one can have a good time. OSCAR is one of those games.

The game created on the very same engine as "Trolls", however this one is much more irritating through not very much thoughtful level design. Steering of the main character is rather tricky and collision detection sometimes fails. ECS version has some additional slowdowns during the gameplay. The only admirable element of the game is excellent music, however it can not be heard during the gameplay but between stages during horribly long loading times.

Okay game, and not too hard for a "colect everything in a stage to exit" fest, except for the last two scenes of level 7. A pitty there are no bosses, most if not all of the enemies basicly recquire three shots with a weapon/three jumps to kill so there's little strategy involved.
Also never got to see the ending due to a disk 1 error, and the game seems to be one of the more obscure ones, so I haven't found it yet. Also, the loading times between levels were usualy absurdly long.

Just tried that one on the CD32... Oscar can jump. And walk. And thats it? Its hard not to get confused because of the graphic. All in all a pretty stupid game.

Eye-searingly bright graphics, jerky controls, massive slowdown with more than two sprites on the screen, hordes of glitches, cheap deaths, an obnoxious main character - what's not to like?
I despise the "It's actually a bunch of movies!" twist; it's like it was added for the sole purpose of killing suspension of disbelief.

My niece wanted the lookalike game called Trolls. But I couldn't find that one anywhere for sale.
6/10

The graphics are very nice but that easily slows down the A500. This is one of few games we bought. I newer came to the end of it, because it contained a lot of bugs witch forced me to reboot. Every second bonus-stage were totally messed up, and the disk-change screen hung often.

It's trolls but slightly different. I found this one more frustrating than troll because of the mad backgrounds making it difficult to see the baddies.

My first CD32 game (since it was included with the console itself). It's exactly the same engine as for "Trolls", only new levels. The CD32 version featured quite a nice soundtrack from CD, the gameplay is quite OK, too.
I never managed to finish the game, especially because some silly bugs demotivated me to hell: I remeber me visiting World of Commodore 1993 where the CD32 was introduced. There were lots of demonstration machines where you try the game out yourself. I played a while and suddenly fell through a wall and got stuck there - inside the wall. Couple of hours later I came back to Commo's CD32 park and now on most of the machines, Oscar had gotten stuck in this uncomfortable position. Ok, I thought, if they see there's such a bug in this game, Commodore will fix it before it becomes finally released.
After I got my CD32 I soon realised: They f***ing didn't.

Not very enjoyable platform game, although the graphics were pretty nice.
