Epic good vs. Evil (westerner vs. Scumbags). Seek & destroy. Nothing more! Felt very realistic.

The sound of the guns and terrorists, the sense of exploring a huge mostly deserted oil rig give this game most of its cred. The actual gameplay is somewhat of a let down.

When I first played Persian Gulf Inferno as a kid I was really impressed by the animation of the main character and the bloody gun fights. Also, the sober graphical style suited the atmosphere of the game nicely.
Today, I played the game on WinUAE after all these years and I must admit to be a little bit dissapointed. The game hasn't aged that well, certainly compared to some other Amiga titles which are still beautiful and much fun to play.
The gameplay is pretty monotonous, and there is a lot of running through long empty corridors and searching through empty rooms. And when you do encounter some Arabs with a bad temper, that experience isnt as suspenceful as I remembered from way back. Actually, it is just a case of firing, turning, firing, turning, firing, etc., until all of them lie face down. There isn't much skill in that. However, finding all the hostages and eventually the bomb in time is quite a feat because of the huge map to discover. Mapping on a piece of squared paper like in the good old days can be part of the fun, and it gives a feeling of really being inside a huge oil platform.
So, Persian Gulf Inferno is a bit lengthy and the gun fights become a bit tedious, but I still found the game pretty nice to play through to the end... Once.
Graphics: 7/10
Sound: 7/10
Playability: 6/10
Overall: 7/10

Another game that would typically help mutual understanding and respect between different cultures, without the use of clichés and stereotypes. Sadly, I never got this profound message "Persian Gulf Inferno" was trying to convey when I was a child.

Love this game, especially those terrorists screaming...well whatever they're screaming, it sounds so cool. Never beat this game, but it's not so hard, once you get shotgun everything seems to be easier

A great game. I can't tell you the way through but as soon as I'm sitting in front of it all memories return instantly and I still remember exactly the way you have to follow to play it through in approximately 20 minutes ...

Interesting little strategic platformer with a thematic that is still very present in our days, despite this game being over 20 years old. The sounds and music are just top-notch and my only little quip with this was the rather small sprites. It was still quite a nice little game after all.

Great atmosphere, and a sound which makes your flesh creep! Easy controls, tough puzzles = Great combination!

Great atmosphere despite the simple play! Love the graphics on this one as they felt rather realistic. One of the first three games I played on the Amiga (the other two being Apprentice and Antago).

This game was renamed to "North Sea Inferno" in Germany, to avoid being banned due to the associations to the war at that time and the brutal gameplay. The graphics are rather dull, except for the title screen, but the game is quite complex and interesting.
Edit 2019: this game is racist and so is Amberstar's comment.

I played this game a lot! Awesome sound, good graphics with natural looking characters.
I never really understood exactly what to do, but I guess that can be blamed on not reading the manual.

Forget graphics. It's all about the sound! I played that game mainly because of the great speech samples and the bit of gore. A really cool game.

Very atmospheric game...maybe BECAUSE of it's minimalistic graphics. And the sound was great!
But I hated the "turnaround" from the sprite. He wasn't in a hurry...but I was

Quite liked this one. Not too good graphics, but the sound was good. Cool to hear the enemy soldiers scream at you, and the shotgun blast sounded just right. Liked the blood spurts everytime someone got hit as well. It felt so brutal at the time.

It's a very special game for me because it was the first game I finished on my A500 years ago (without cheating). I even wrote a solution and uploaded it to Aminet. Cool game! I have to play it again.

I think this is another great addictive games, I remember playing this time after time and never getting sick of it. Yes crap GFX but who cares so did Tetris when it first came out but people kept on playing it. Sound was cool back then & this game was just a little gem

Great sound, great gameplay but dire graphics. But who cares? It was a cracking little romp! The animation of the main sprites was cool as well though.

This is how we played Counterstrike in the 80's, kids.

It's tough to remember were all the important items and hostages are. The only way to beat this game would be to map the whole friggin' oil rig. On the other hand, it would take a lot of very tedious work to do that and so I never finished The Persian Gulf Inferno. Could have been a lot better if they had included a map in the game itself or at least the option to save your status.

Slow controls, so-so graphics. 5/10

Nice game, but there was only a censored version here in Germany: called
North Sea Inferno (no joke!)

Never quite understood what was so special about this, and I still don't. Crap graphics, slow controls and a basic game design mean this is nothing more than average, at least to me.

Many fond memories of this game. Surprisingly realistic action game so it offered a good challenge. A friend of mine mapped the game and it was a big help. Graphics were rather bad - until I redrew them. All the graphic files were easily accessible from the disk so it wasn't any real challenge to "hack" the game to look better.

Very entertaining.

What made this game so great for me was, that there was no visible bullets. That made the gunfights more realistic and fun. Great sound effects too. Danish quality!

Scary game to play nowadays, with the war in Iraq going on and all. When the terrorist are shouting in arabic, It's almost impossible not to freak out. Great game with a mature feel. This game would've been banned had it been released today - Though George W. Bush probably would have kept a copy to play late at night.
