Amiga Power hated this due to the trial and error, memory test level design, which was fair enough. Despite this I personally really liked it and found it to be incredibly playable and addictive - to the point where I've finished it without cheating.
A neat feature was the way you could play and practice any of the first four levels so that you could learn all the dangers 8/10

The very best game of all time.
Hours and hours spent with this great "hero".
I miss my best friend in the early 90's.
Simon Phipps, please, bring to us Rick Dangerous 3
10/10

As a sequel it ranks much higher but unfortunately the same type of trial and error approach makes this title to be targetted only to the specific audience. Not everybody likes the games to be played that way.

There is something very appealing about this. It dared to be different to (or perhaps just preceded) the ubiquitous platform junk that became so common. Each screen is a challenge and the trial and error element shouldn't work, but it definitely does.

Comparable to the first episode in every respect, maybe it look a bit more 16-bit this time (7/10).

Much better than its predecessor.

Very good sequel with the same fiendish level design.
Fun game 8/10

Not quite as good as part I but of course great platformer. There is also nothing's wrong with this game - so play and have fun !

More of the same gameplay, with somewhat different graphics but the same overall feel. Another one that captivated the hell outta me since childhood.

I repeat my review of part I
The box of the game should have had the following message...
Abandon hope all ye who boot this game
You have to be a bit sadomasochistic to make yourself try over and over and over and over [....3 hours later....] and over and....
but still it was FUN!!!
Yes, I felt the same for the sequel.
HAHAHA ... This game is in a league of it's own still I have good memories of it. This game was never to be intended to be easy, at least for the ones who finished it...hats off!!

Just as overrated as the first one. A slow, frustrating, poorly designed game.

One of those inexplicably popular and highly rated games. My friend introduced me to this circa 1990. We couldn't get enough of Rick's dying animation (and the 'bwaaah!'). I remember he was quite good at it, but I'm pretty sure we used a trainer... As a gaming experience it is pure torture - one of the hardest games ever made. And not in a challenging way either, just in an annoying way.

Follows the same formula as the first 'effort' with predictable consequences. Stunningly terrible. Wonder why they never made a third game...?

The only improvement to the prequel was how Rick suddenly zooms out when he flies out of the screen dying, probably giving you a shock the first time you see it.

Stunningly fun, as was the first release. But I agree with previous speaker, the sudden-death-hard-to-spot traps made it kind of unfriendly for sessions with friends, where fast action was required at most times. Had I been alone playing it I might had been able too muster up the spirit to try over and over again to remember the traps...

More of the same, with new backgrounds. Still suffers from the Sudden Death Traps of RD1 which were highly annoying! The key to the game is basically to memorize where these traps are, and also to rely on luck to complete the game. Without these the game would be quite simple and quick to play.

Only ever briefly played it at a friends house back in 1994 I think. I remember it being very fancy and colourful but nothing special. Not as famous as the original I think, even though it may have been better in many respects.

All I remember about this game is playing the same rooms over and over until I'd got them completely right. Man, good times...

More like Rick Dangerous 1.1; Rick in space I thought - but why change a winning formula!

Great funny oldstyle platform! I spent a lot of time on it and enjoyed to max!
Another Core Design Hit!

Awesome! Not so hard than RD1 but still very hard to get into level 5...which is not selectable when you start the game.

Better sequel, colourful GFX n slightly more playable

Goog sequel although the first one had the edge for me. This is still playable enough but wasn't exactly much different from the first game.

More colourful graphics and much better adjusted difficulty level make this sequel of Rick Dangerous very enjoyable game.

Even better than the superbly addictive first game. I love it.

I loved this game! Although its much about trial-and-error it gave me hoursanddaysandweeks of fun! The ICE and the FUTURE level are my favorites!

Terribly entertaining, especially if you liked the first episode and didn't get scared in front of a big challenge. While being easier than the previous adventure in the series, in fact, this wasn't a walk in the park and still required a careful exploration and good reflexes. Cool.

While a lot of the puzzles are of the "memorize the enemy patterns" type (which in the games defence describes most platform games of the era) the cool graphics and much improved difficulty level over the first game really gave this one a fun flair.

Nice idea, the transition of Rick from Indiana Jones to Flash Gordon. The game lacks the freshness of the original, though. Strictly for fans of platformers requiring pixel perfect timing.
