Despite the huge HUD that reminds me of Rolling Thunder, the graphics are perfectly fine for the Amiga. I was appalled at the controls back then (space or down-up to jump), but comparing it with the complex controls that we have today and the one-button joysticks from that time, I think this is a great solution they came up with. Never got past the first level boss.

Again, publisher used its money just to buy the license, gave the job to one guy letting him 3 or 4 weeks to work and put an average but working game in a box sold at high price. Just look at the rear of this box, you will see that it just shows pictures of the movie and of the arcade version, a real shame!
And once again, the AMIGA version is a poor ATARI ST conversion with just a crap raster and more voices. Play it in 60Hz for more speed and playability but don't expect a game that will make you remember the great Paul VERHOEVEN movie or show the AMIGA capabilities.

Well i love the music and the atmosphere, Fast arcarde action, that keep me on trying again and again. No so easy as i have read in previous comment. Very nice box and poster too. The music stick in your head for the rest of the day after playing it.

Never noticed at the time, but that sampled speech on the title screen is hilarious. Nerdy, plummy voiced programmer & reverb effect. I rate the game 3 + nostalgia (0.5) + shit speech on title screen (0.5) = 4 overall.

One of the first games I owned on the Amiga. Actually, I think it might have been a copied game a friend gave me. I would play this game once every month for no reason other than that I had it in my collection and would play it occasionally.

This is one of the first games I owned on the Amiga and I remember loving it so I'm surprised at the low score it's received, maybe it's nostalgia getting the better of me.

Arcade to amiga is a failure, with many games, this is one of them.

Played the Arcade version of this and enjoyed it. Then came the ST version which I quite enjoyed too. Now after playing the Amiga version it feels like the ST/Amiga versions were really quite poor. My advice, go with the Arcade version.

It suffers from c64-ish graphics.. And a stupid huge panel.
i know even the ST could have done way better
an amateur production to capitalize fast from the movie

I played this a lot, but the Data East arcade is way better. It turns a lot repetitive after the second level. Still a nice Robocop game for its time.

Came out kind of coincidentally with the Data East arcade game, and with some more bonus levels such as face recognition and shooting the rapist (which the arcade game had built-in with the regular side-scrolling levels).
I just replayed it after years and got right to level 4. It's not well-balanced in that its difficulty relies too much on Robocop's stiff and clumsy movement which, along with coarse hit detection compared to the arcade game, makes some hits almost inevitable. But once you learn what patterns the enemies follow, it becomes more than feasible.
Too bad for the amateurish graphics, the ridiculously small playfield and bland sound and music, though (not really Peter Weller's?) speech samples and the digitised movie stills are still somewhat enjoyable. You'd think the Amiga version would benefit from the simultaneous development of the arcade game for a change... Nope. It does offer some fun gameplay, but feels like a missed opportunity and technically it completely lacks the punch and brutality of the (awesome!) Paul Verhoeven film.

I used to love playing this in the Arcade, this vesion is quite good as well.

He says "thak you for your cooperation" and it´s a good conversion from the original data east arcade. Or....was it the ocean computer version first? Anyway that´s not clear.
The playability is mostly the same you found on the arcade and of course, it lacks of a good color palette, sprites are small.......not the best game ever but really playable and similar to the arcade great hit.
It´s obvious I come from Spectrum when I write a comment to a game, hehe!! I´m more benevolent "judging" Amiga tittles.

Lol i'm playing this right now. Had this game on the original amiga 500.
it's funny. :-D
of course the gameplay is ridiculous somehow. The way robocop walks is funny. And when he finishes a mission after beating a boss, he says something i can't figure out what he says.
cult-game for me.

I also didn't play the original coin-op before this one, so I did find myself enjoying this on my A500...To be honest, it's a truly mediocre (and quite hard) game based on a strong movie license.

Not bad but like almost everybody says, it's sad whan the 8 bits versions are better...my favorite was on CPC, incredible game on this machine

Better to play than the 8bit commodore version. But worse graphics and sound..moh..

Bad graphics & scrolling, and avergage gameplay. It was based on the arcade version and also included some elements of the 8-bit home versions. This is much harder than the arcade.
Though I have to say that the Spectrum version was the best home version.

Mediocre game based on a acceptable arcade. Some digitized frames made it look cool, like in the bonus levels, but the game itself doesn't need much of attentions.

Damn. That's not playable AT ALL. I really tried, but... Damn that game sucks.

Ugly graphics in an even uglier grey frame. Which is quite annoying, 'cause the gameplay is quite decent. (67%)

The coin-op version was great. I felt in love with it. I liked the movie of course. So I bought the C64 version. I was happy about that. Fascinating. Jonathan Dunn's tracks were superb. Then the Amiga version. Well, what to say.. Graphically poor, worse than the C64 version. Nothing to do with that. I keep it playing on a real C64 (I have a C64 and a C128 too) and sometimes the Mame version. In this very case Ocean did not well. Just my opinion maybe.

Hadn't played the coin-op before the Amiga vsn so didn't realise at the time that the conversion was a bit sub-standard. Got plenty of enjoyment out of the game though. Good playability, graphics OK, music to drive you demented after a while.

The Spectrums graphics were better than this!

Today I might find it bit dull, but "than" it was great.
It came out with a warning on national TV here in Norway.
They ment it was teaching us "violence is cool" since we didn't get any punishment for killing hostages; which ofcourse was wrong; we lost energy ...
So goodbye adult TV advicor we became nice chaps all, playing Robocop !
Stunning GFX !
Bit clumpsy controls, but who cared

Technically not-very-good conversion (the coin-op version of course looks quite nice). Playability is not totally screwed up, though. It's fun to blast criminals for a while. Subgames are OK though not special either. Some of the cool atmosphere of the movie has managed to find its way into the game.

Hehe one of my favourite movies too but I quite liked this game & remembering getting quite far on it too

ARGHHH! One of my favourite movies at the time and we get hit with a lame ST port! Again, what was all the stupid crap around the screen? They didn't even have the common decency to sample the movie, instead you got some stupid guy saying Robo's directives through a large tube! OK, the game was slightly playable but the Amiga could have handled the arcade game far better on its own!

The graphics were a complete dog's breakfast (and the sound was even worse), but underneath that this was actually a really good conversion of the arcade. The insane difficulty of the arcade machine was toned down, and while the game is now (too?) easy, it's at least enjoyable right to the end.
The added extra levels are extremely welcome in breaking the monotony of the shooty platform bits (whereas in the arcade you're basically playing the same level over and over). The photofit screen in particular is great, with huge digitised pictures of the crooks and tense music as the seconds tick down.
It's hardly a technical milestone, but it's still fun. And I'd rather play this than the coin-op - which is all you can ask for in an arcade port, really. 7/10.

Surely this looks and sounds like shit now but when this game was brand new it was pretty cool in every aspect. I mean come on! Which game looked better in 1988? Huh? I bet that you can't name many. I played this to death because I was a big fan of the movie too. Decent coin-op conversion when you remember how old game this is.

The ridiuculously huge, entirely unnecessary grey dashboard that frames the main action is embarrassing on an Amiga, which can do far greater things (overscan in space harrier and pacman, to name but two), but there nonetheless was fun to be had, so I played the game for ages.
i must wonder one thing though: why on earth didn't ocean get a more decent digitiser? Whether it's run the gauntlet, daley thompson or this game, the digitised shots look awful.

Jeez, it really did look crap didn't it. Lazy ST port when the Amiga could have easily had a version looking more like the superb arcade version. Anyway the gameplays still there and that made it worth a purchase. Good fun despite the bad graphics.

Ugly, dull and far too short.

First of all, go and rent the movie. It is an outstanding piece of sharply observed social satire; the most entertaining sci-fi 80's action movie this side of Aliens. The arcade game rocked, the Amiga graphics are very 8-bit but the playability is there. It also came with a sticker that said 'Warning: this property protected by RoboCop'. Which adorned my bedroom door for longer than I would like to admit. ED-209, Casey Wong, nice.

Fun for a short time, but Graphically it could have been a LOT better - The main characters are way too small and it looks too much like an 8-bit game. Though I must admit that I still played it for a while - If you like mindless killing, then try it - Don't come running to me when you start thinking it's real life though!

Graphically crap, aurally sparse, this somewhat managed to be enjoyable enough to grant at least 5 or 6 completions before it was thrown away for good. Aaah, mysteries...

What's with that border around the whole screen and those amateurish black outlines around all of the characters? Pretty poor conversion of a great arcade game.

Let's be honest to each other. Robocop was a brilliant movie (Paul Verhoeven kicks ass!). I remember reading about this game in "Computer & Videogames" and it got a stunning 95% or something. At the time I played the game I found it great! Graphically it's well... Pretty lame. The sound was simple with some samples of the movie thrown in. The game was also VERY easy to complete and when you had mastered the right time to press the button of your joystick you knew how to complete the game. But due to some mysterious reason I loved it. For me the game is better than the sum of its parts. That's maybe because I liked to movie so much.
Graphics: 6/10
Sound: 6/10
Playability 7/10
Overall: 8/10

Used to enjoy this (when I was young) .. Looking back it looks awful though.

While the graphics were truly horrid ST ports, and the game was way too easy, I probably played through it a good two dozen times. Just something about going through the motions of the movie that kept me hooked.
