Just when I think I've got straight in my head 'The Top Ten cutesy Amiga tunes Ever' I remember about RODLAND! Very enjoyable and polished game.

Rodland on the Amiga is a very competent rendition of one of the best yet overlooked arcade games in the genre. There are some minor technical and gameplay differences but it is still a very enjoyable conversion. One button joystick controls works well since the gameplay does not involve jumping and lack of continues is balanced by the relative ease at obtaining extra lifes. Unfortunately, Storm did not convert the second episode that is accessible in the arcade version via a sort of konami code, even though the extra life giving fairy picture and the introduction tune are taken from that episode (7/10).

Played this game with my sister so much as a kid and even now occassionally when she babysits for me. Got given it as part of a two-game bundle (I forget what the other game wad) and is still to this day one of my favourite arcade style games. Simple but beautiful graphics, cute music, easy fluid controls and a difficulty curve that still gives me a challange even now.
Can't recommend this game enough!

From the cute characters, to the colorful graphics, to the engaging gameplay: Rodland is pretty much flawless. When I tried to complete it this year, it took me about eight or nine attempts until I finally managed to beat all 40 levels and the final boss. That was five or six hours spent well.

Perfectly cute arcade platformer. Best played with a girlfriend at your side. The only flaw about it is the low difficulty. But it's so entertaining you would'nt regret to play it twice in a row ...

This is fantastic arcade game. Decent colourful graphics, great sounds and music, easy controls, great enemies and weapons

2 player is where it's at though, if you can get a friend or family member to play it with you will have loads of fun, it's up there with Lotus', Chaos Engine, Bubble Bobble etc in terms of multiplayer fun

Give it a whirl you won't be disappointed!

Another excellent arcade platformer. It's short, containing only 40 single-screen levels, and it's not especially difficult to play through. But it's so much fun, has a brilliant two-player mode, and it's just completely gorgeous and cute. You have to have a heart of stone not to love this.

An average game. I don't follow all the hype on this one. The game is quite simple, a bit challenging and addictive but nothing that really makes it awesome. It is rather for small children. The whole game can be finished quite fast and the whole technique during the play is to collect every flower to get into the sub-game and catch extra life. Simple as that and repetetive.

Another irresistible conversion by The Sales Curve: Rodland is on the Olympus of cute platforms (along with New Zealand Story and few others), impossible to resist at those little fantastic animations, colourful backgrounds, garish sprites and monster gameplay..maybe the screens and the object looks very simple, but the 1st class contains deserves the best regards...

Very interesting gameplay, and not too difficult like some other games, so you don't lose interest too quickly.

The graphics are very brightly coloured and somehow friendly-looking. There is some very cute music and the overall concept can get you addicted. One thing I must say though... This is MUCH better in 2-player mode!

This is how to do an Amiga arcade conversion. Nicely animated characters, bold, colourful graphics and a perfect difficulty curve make for fantastic playability. I find the last boss too fiendishly difficult, but that's probably just me. The best game to come from Storm (what happened to them anyway?)

I don't understand why after a finish a level, my character does not go to the next level automatically.

Anyway, this trick applies to the arcade version :
After inserting a coin (5), press the player 1 'down' (Cursor DOWN) button 3 times and START (1). This will activate the extra mode, so you can play with all new levels, gfx and music.

Have fun !

This game is better than the Arcade original.

The difficulty is tweaked ever so slightly down, making it more playable and less frustrating. Also, the overall presentation seems to be just that little bit cuter/friendlier. Compare the arcade to this and you might see what I mean?

It's one of those games you come back to just for a quick thrash, and spend an hour or two instead.

Brilliant! 9/10

It's a shame The Sales Curve didn't do more conversions.

Fantastic conversion, and arcade perfect, even down to the extra life bonus screen, possibly a little easy for seasoned gamers, but you'll love the experience tho, blows the imo overrated bubble bobble clean out of the water.

A great and cute animu game conversed from the Japan-only coin-op. The only thing I have against this game is the atrocious ad-art with a very funny slogan saying "So cute... It'll make you puke". Why I said the ad-artwork was so atrocious was because in the game the fairy children are animu like, while they look like troll children in the ad.

Bubble Bobble is a much better game...
...
...in the arcade. Why were second-rate games like this, Silkworm, and Pang ported to the Amiga with near-flawless results, while first-rate arcade games like Bubble Bobble, Outrun and Strider were converted sloppily, ranging from mediocre to downright terrible?

Someone needs to explain this one to me at some time. There is nothing special at all about this game - yet I know I played it a fair bit and enjoyed playing it. What's even more amazing is it grows more on you! This one had to be tried and somehow they pulled off the impossbile on this one. I remember the advertisment line even now - So Cute It'll Make You Puke. Strangley good....

This is quite good, but overrated, in my opinion. Yes it's got that 'cute' gameplay like Bubble Bobble does, but it ain't a patch on that game (well, the arcade version anyway!). Rodland has excellent Graphics and nice sound, but I found the gameplay to be a tad monotonous after a few screens. Think about it...

A long time ago, I saw this game in action on TV. It got me really interested and I was thinking 'I'm gonna play this game one day and love it'. And you're right, I did get hold of it one day, and I loved it! The main character sprite is very cute, as are all the little enemies you unfortunately have to kill. But what I really love about this game is the cute music! Even though it loops, I can't get enough!

Truely exceptional.

Rodland is more than arcade perfect. Amiga version plays faster and smoother because you do everything with one joyctick button. Fire for whacking and fire + up/down for ladder building. Nice and simple where arcade original had different buttons for actions. Add cute and colourful graphics to the mix and you get one gem of a game you can't afford to miss, especially in these times when violent and sick games rule the market.

Is there life after Bubble Bobble? Yes, there's Rodland! The graphics are insanely colourful and pretty, and the gameplay is tight and not too hard (my kid cousins could play this when I babysitted them, made my job a lot easier!). The lack of jumping always frustrated me a bit, though.

Rodland is a Bubble Bobble kinda platformer. The game features very nice cute graphix and good sonics. There are also a few new original ideas thrown in, like the methods of killing your enemies and making your own ladders. The game is very well made and truly addictive. In two playermode this game is almost unbeatable in the platform-genre. Check it out! Really nice!

Sound: 8/10

Overall: 8/10

The actual method of killing enemies (grabbing them with a stick and whacking them from side to side) is surely one of the most amusing sights in any Amiga game. The levels are impeccably designed, the difficulty curve smooth (although the game's perhaps not the hardest ever) and the controls respond perfectly and consistantly. The kind of design only the Japanese get right, combined with typically excellent European Amiga programming.
