R-Type II is harder than it's already tough predecessor. And I'm afraid the Amiga version is even harder to the point of being frustrating. That's a shame because there is not much to complain about graphics, sound and the general rendition except maybe some occasional slow-downs that actually ease the gameplay (6/10).

Well i had a lot of fun on RType 1 and played it many hours ( and still sometimes ) and finally bought the original on ebay 2 years ago.
This one has bad control, and it's far behind Many greats shooters on the amiga.

The game plays at slow-motion right on from the beginning. Seems it can't even handle two sprites on screen.

A really poor game that gives you completely no fun. Maybe because of the dodgy conversion, maybe because it is what it is. I strongly recommend to avoid this game if you don't want to get irritated.

Graphically superior to the first R-Type, R-Type II is a very well put together game. Unfortunately, something is off here... Can't quite say what it is, but this never really gripped me as much as the first one did. Still, a very good game!

Great conversion, more faithful in detail by the first chapter of the Factor-5, but slower and more difficult. Completed without the help of cheats is "almost" impossible. However, R-Type R-Type is always, and this second chapter it maintains all the eternal appeal.

As far as conversions go. You dont get much better than this. Amazing. Everything (that the amiga can possibly do) is here. The only thing different is a change of music for two of the levels. Calling all Amiga fans. You have to play this!!!

Just found and started this game--it's a good one!
Tough gameplay, good graphics, reasonable controls (though they seem a bit lagging at times), good in-game music score.
8/10

It's a pixel perfect conversion !

A very important thing to rate this game is that it has NO SLOWDOWNS playing it in NTSC.. Is smooth, its dualplayfield scroll is cool, it was a single disk(no tedious disk swapping ). Great work from its programmers.

Great conversion with an excellent difficulty curve.

An extremely tough shooter (harder than Project X IMO) but such a lovely, playable and exciting game, and with the best bosses this side of anything.

Project X are much better! Not bad anyway...

Wow, this game is awesome, as in with any par to Super R-Type on the SNES, which IS R-Type II, in which I had a lot of fun playing, and with this game, that opinion was dittoed from the SNES game. Also serving with this is lively graphics and next to that being very playable.

The graphics looks ST-ish.....shame as the game is very good
GRRRR !!!!!

An awesome arcadeport of an awesome game. Imho much better than R-Type I on the Amiga.

R-Type II in the arcade was a more-of-the-same sequel. It played just like its predecessor but was even more difficult. This port is a great conversion where the only flaw is some slowdown. It certainly annihilates Super R-Type (the even more slowdown-laden SNES half-port of R-Type II). 9/10

This was a good and honest conversion, even with parallax effects, but it still could be better (anyway since the conversion panorama on Amiga is so poor, it should be appreciated), nice shooter after all...but nothing exceptional (same for the Arcade)
PS: notice that Arc Developments seemed to be the only software house to get some decent parallax on shootem up conversions, (Dragon Breed and this R-Type II), it is strange, there seems to be no other decent horizontal shootem up to have a parallax effect on Amiga... A prise for them and a regret for a computer that was never programmed at its max...
and this conversion is far better of the Factor 5 conversion of R-Type in my opinion.

This was a challenge yet surprisingly a good shoot em up though that kept you gripped at your joystick

This was a stunning reproduction of the arcade game right down to the water effects on level 2! As a game on a whole, it was really R-Type revamped as the levels took a similar vein to the original. Still, I loved it and will give it a thumbs up.

Pretty good conversion, really.

A more accurate conversion in every way bar one crucial element; speed.
Like playing the arcade game coated in treacle. Painful.

Not quite as good as the first R-Type but still one of the best Amiga shooters - I love it! The Graphics on this game are pretty amazing and it does look like an actual arcade game. You have to play this and if you don't like it, then you are weird!

A serious competitor for the best-horizontal shooter on the Amiga. The conversion of this arcade beast was almost perfect, and that was no easy feat. Amazing graphics, attention to detail (the water immersions), a huge spaceship that finally looked as impressive as in the arcade, a clever multiload system..and then I loved R-Type. So much of an improvement over the conversion of the first, classic R-Type. Who needs a PC-Engine to play this gem at home???
A great game (did I mention Martin Walker was in the sound compartment?) and a great job from Arc Developments.
