radioman9702017-01-28 1989. This. Amiga. Makes you proud you owned one in the day. Shuffling discs notwithstanding. I have the Steam version, along with Dragon's Lair 1 & 2, and they are amazing animation showcases that are still damn fun. But again, lowly Amiga and this game in the 1980s would make your non-Amiga owning friends drool and secretly want to climb through your window and take your Amiga away while you slept some night. :p View all comments (288)
amigakid12016-10-14 (7/10) The animation, especially for the time, was excellent and fun to watch just like the Dragon Lair series. The biggest drawback of course was gameplay, or lack of. If there was someone really good at the game then watching it was almost like watching saturday morning cartoons but again unfortunately there is hardly any gameplay as it is all about knowing what direction to move or press fire button at the exact right time. Fun for about 10 minutes then very frustrating. I give it a 7 purely on the animation. View all comments (53)
comiga2010-01-24 (5/10) Some gorgeous animation and back drops, but virtually no game play at all! Impressive that they even tried converting these to the amiga because of their sheer size, and they did a pretty good job at it! Just... No gameplay... Good cartoon though! View all comments (178)
theaveng2009-05-18 (10/10) I love this game. It was fun to see what came next in the story, a lot like today's Playstation RPGs (think Final Fantasy). It was a challenge to figure out which moves you were supposed to make, and the graphics were incredible. When you set Space Ace next to its contemporaries like Pac-Man or Donkey Kong, the Ace looks amazing. I played this game again-and-again because it was just fun to look at. Dexter's expressions and death scenes are hilarious. (Ditto Dirk in the earlier game called Dragon's Lair.) When my friend showed me this on his Amiga, I immediately begged my parents to get me an Amiga just so I could have the full-scale video-based game. I loved it. I loved Dragon's Lair too.
An excellent adaptation that only Amiga could handle. No other 80's PC, Mac, or game console could bring the feel of this arcade game to the home. View all comments (6)
Kodoichi2007-11-20 (1/10) Let the disk swapping begin! If you wonder why some of the screens and death animations do not fit into the scene and continuity of the game, it's because the Amiga version was cut together from the full Laserdisc version and only includes a fractional amount of it due to memory issues. Hard to vote on this one, as a demo it's great, as a game it's poop. View all comments (387)
mailman2007-10-29 (3/10) Serie of the games which are barely playable but full of absolutly amazing graphics (especially when you bear in mind that the conversion was done in years of ECS chipset domination). Nevertheless, seeing does not mean having good fun. Games are not only difficult but also stupid, boring and irritating. Very poor. View all comments (732)
Makke2007-05-11 (5/10) Unplayable due to the loading times. Playing it today, with faster loading would probably be a lot better, then again the graphics was half the fun of this game and today they're only impressive from a historical point of view. View all comments (210)
elend2007-04-04 (10/10) Oh my god, I love that game. I own it in several versions. For the PC, DVD, CD-I, 3DO and whatnot. But the Amiga version is really something special given the limitations of the Amiga. A truly great conversion of an "impossible to convert to home computers" game. View all comments (142)
marcom_to2006-09-14 (4/10) You want to play this game just for graphics. I'd been loading those disks for friends, just to give them a good impression in the Amiga graphics capabilities. Only a few seconds of mnemonic game then another disk swapping. A perfect copy of Dragon's lair. Have tried the WHD version. I do not like it either. I loved the real thing but the game itself is just remembering one of the four directions and pressing the fire button. That was the laser games philosophy. View all comments (29)
bobbo2005-12-31 (8/10) The game was on 4 disks, not 8... The cracked version had more disks and more swapping I still got the original in my collection, these conversions were incredible for that age, it is surely not an ordinary game but the atmosphere is good, even though the original coin-op was deeper becasue you could choose different routes View all comments (32)
Invizix2005-12-20 (10/10) I honestly can not understand why people rated this game so low! This game plays EXACTLY like Dragon's Lair did, and this version is an excellent arcade conversion.
I keep hearing "graphics demo"... Which is NOT the case. The game is an interactive puzzler. It's a real brainbuster, and I highly enjoyed Dragon's Lair and Space Ace back in the day on the arcade machines, and enjoy the Amiga conversions!
Robbo2005-03-01 (10/10) Hey, there seems to be a lot of negative vibe merchants about giving their views on this game so here I am to lighten up the negativety. People should judge this title on the type of game it is. This means that if you didn't like these types of games then you didn't play them so cannot comment. I dislike RACING games (i.e. Lotus etc.) but I don't go around giving all driving games big fat ZEROS. I never played them so cannot comment.
As far as games of this genre go, it was my personal favourite on the Amiga as it was non stop exciting action. Dragon's Lair's games were also great but this pips them on the Amiga. View all comments (14)
Shunichiro2005-01-30 (6/10) A nice graphics demo but that's all. But everyone who played these games didn't even expect them to be proper games and they didn't even try to pretend to be games. So in its own class Space Ace is enjoyable but ultimately short-lived fun. View all comments (166)
Siminz2004-12-27 (2/10) Fun in the arcade but awful on the Amiga. The continuity between scenes dosnt even make sence. View all comments (50)
Jim2004-12-15 (2/10) I didn't know this until I found out today - but SPACE ACE is actually a anagram of SHIT GAME.
Don't believe me?
OK, well do you believe me if I tell you that today I actually found a little bit of playability in this game? View all comments (105)
Ed W2004-12-08 Not even a game. A lengthy cartoon for £25 on about 8 discs. Unbelivable this got released (and got purchased by people)...... View all comments (44)
DeAdLy_cOoKiE2004-12-06 (6/10) Interesting game which impressed many, disappointed others. There's not much real gameplay going on other than pushing the joystick in a certain direction at the right moment, in order for the game to continue. It's more like an interactive cartoon. An extremely nice looking cartoon created by the famous animator Don Bluth. If you like this game check out Dragon's Lair as well. View all comments (232)
Not much actual gameplay here.

Painful disk swapping for a classic lasergame.

Once again, this game is a puzzler, not a platform game.
